I’m sick of races complaining their plight to black people whenever this discussion comes up lol. Life is hard on everyone, well except little shits like in the OP I guess. Stupid people make shit suck for everyone, that’s life we have to deal with.
Also fuck how other races feel about how black people use the word. You guys wanna use it so bad? Use it and deal with whatever penalties you face or stfu. No ones gonna give people they dont know a pass ever to disrespect them. Makes no sense.
Every year or so some rich white guy makes a fuss about the 1 to 2 things on earth he’s not freely allowed to do. I’m shocked it took so long this year honestly. This is no news, fuck this guy keep it moving.
It might be messed up, but that’s how language works. Wasn’t long ago that queer was considered an insult. If the word keeps getting used as a term of endearment, if it keeps ending up on fucking Sony Music Entertainment CD’s and if multi-million dollar pop-culture influencing musicians make the term so ubiquitous, you CANNOT be surprised that people are frustrated about the double-standards surrounding it. You know how in class there’s one dude that does nothing but look at his phone and never gets in trouble, but as soon as you sneak a peak at a text the teacher/lecturer is on your case? Yeah it’s like that, times a hundred. Thousand.
Using the word nigga has been made cool. You don’t hear people wanting to use jap or chink or paki because the words just don’t have any qualities as endearing terms. They just don’t have any context in culture outside of hate speech.
Understood. But I have a slightly different perspective.
Hip hop culture, as it pertains to how inner city Black, Latino, and White people, has a habit of taking bad words and trying to give it ‘good’ connotations. Went from being called ‘nigger’ to calling ourselves ‘nigga’. Went from being whipped and chained as slaves to being in whips (cars) and chains (necklaces). Def Jam - Death Jam etc. Bottom bitch - top bitch (lady), still misogynistic regardless.
With music, and media being the biggest driving force in helping the culture spread, especially with corporate America’s vested interest, what is shown in through music and television is what we know to ‘be hip hop’. Unfortunately, mentions of our history, social injustices and struggles are absent. We are only seeing the stereotyping, imagery and hearing words and language without the context behind them.
There are a load of people, still alive today, who were alive with Martin Luther King Jr and part of the civil rights struggle, who bore witness to, and were affected by the worse of society, which is embodied in, and symbolized, by the word Nigga. Harry Belafonte, and Jesse Jackson are examples of these people. But then you have Jay-Z arguing with Oprah about us being allowed to use the word. We don’t regard our own history. Why would anyone else?
If people did truly love black people, and want to show endearment towards us, wouldn’t a better way to do this be by being involved with issues black people face, such as mass incarceration, poverty, social injustices and the likes, rather than use a word that was used as an insult to us, and maintain the status quo?
Another side point, the likes of Quentin Tarantino came into question over scripting the word nigger/nigga for his black actors. His response was ‘if they don’t have a problem with it, why should anyone else?’
Ultimately, it starts with us. I don’t think it’s right to call ourselves nigga, let alone for others to call us nigga. But we allowed ourselves to. So we have situations like this.
;“Stfu sandnigga” is what said black friend told srk poster.
It’s a good thing Malcolm X, Steve biko, Bob Marley, Shaka Zulu and all them other real niggas not alive to see niggas these days. They’d be turning around in their graves. We died for these niggars? smh.
Edit: white people fucking retarded and have no culture whatsoever (descendants from north western EU) and don’t have anything worthwhile for the rest of the world to model after. The rest of the world likes to shit on each other, with words for fun because we buddies. White people wait till their friends asleep and put their balls on their friends forehead and literally shit on them. Rest of the world likes to talk politics and what their stance is and where they stand, white people rather talk about how they smashed their wives last night and how their daughter is growing a nice ass and some tits.
In short, white people fucking retarded, culture less, pride less, honour less, shameless bunch of dirty motherfuckers. The rest of the world too fucking stupid to know it and trying to he white, especially them bitchniggas and bitch ass Asians.
Not all white people suck, some of them are cultured, educated and DL have the right principalities.
I rarely use the n-word. I personally think it’s horrid no matter how you use it, but I understand how some view the -gga version. Here in VA though non-black people will throw that shit like candy though (And the stupid old racists and dumb young racists will throw the hard -er one. Asswipes.)
I will use it with Rock though, if only cause he’s used it on me about 200 times.
That’s every colonized by white people ethnic group though
That’s why my indian ex had a last name Nogeira and was catholic
Filipinos got fucked by spaniards and portugese, then they got destroyed by americans. Then america helped the filipinos. Then when the rich elite ousted Marcos the country went to shit by pushing out american military.
I get it if you are from a shitty area like long beach or are a gang banger.
But i remember in high school it was fobs who dressed like thugs, honor roll students, and rich white guys blasting jay z throwing around nig.
Like that aryan white guy with blonde hair and blue eyes throwing out nigga like he’s rummy
Something that always gets lost in text is the subtle cultural, facial, and verbal cues that come from certain peoples’ use of the word.
The differences in a couple of inner city kids referring to each other as “my nigga” and a couple of trust fund kids who’ve listened to too many Tupac records awkwardly calling each other nigga over a couple of games of Call of Duty just can’t be fully understood nor explained by words.
Black culture in the USA is a confusing, twisting hodge-podge of pride, self-loathing, struggle, pain, triumph, and everything in-between.
Also, one very important thing… Something that no other culture outside of the Native population can understand- Being a cultural group that has suffered greatly under the hands of prejudice and oppression from the very people who have the gall to name their sports teams things like Redskins and Braves after nearly completely wiping out those people… and motherfuckers really wanna get tight about calling people “nigga”?
White folks are habitual line-steppers. Blacks start letting you mooleys use nigga, next thing you know you fools are breaking out the whips and chains again. Hell, y’all already getting too damn familiar with this creepy blackface obsession and your terrible Trayvon Martin Halloween cosplays.
I’ve never used it in real life, and I feel any use of it whether the full form or “ga” is atrocious. Call me old fashioned.
I don’t think anyone of any color should use it.
Though being on SRK for 14 years, I’ve gotten desensititzed to it, and use it in a joking manner here which scares me a bit.
I think we should all just say “homeskillets”. It’s funnier and less offensive IMO
