To pre or not to pre...

Just wondering - how many of you are pre-ordering your stuff with your local store? I mean merchandise in general, including the UDON products of coz!

I am still trying very hard to “preach” the pre-ordering system, coz this seems to be the only way to make retailers order a product. The Darkstalker order numbers came in lower that I expect, at about 1/2 of SF’s regular sales, and I just feel that once again, the retailers are not educated enough to know the potential of this title. Given SF has a bigger name than DS, I do not expect DS to launch super strong, but I do know what potential our books can go to and the pre-order numbers are not what it is.

So it brings me to wonder about the pre-ordering system, is it working or it is still not getting anywhere…

Oh - and what am I doing hyping DS without showing some pages?

I usually don’t bother to preorder anything because I can usually just go buy it at my store whenever I want to…

btw, kickass Darkstalkers previews, esp the second one! I registered just to say that!

i’ve never pre-ordered anything and i’ve gotten every issue of sf and basicly all the holos. same with my girl same with all my friends that get comics. never ever pre-order but we still get em’.

also since i’m here here’s my question/opinion. since issue one i’ve bought every cover and all the holos till about issue 8. i’m ok with the holos being 10 a piece. i thought it was pricey but still ok. so i’m spending a good 17 dollars for all the covers. since around issue 8 the holos have been jacked up to 15 a piece and i notice they dont sell. my friends, my girl, and i have all bought the holos until they went up to 15. infact when it rose each of us bought only one issue instead of all 3. i just wanted to know why the holo cover prices have been jacked up to almost double (was 8 dollars at one point). my view is that instead of all of us each spend the 17 that we usually do…all 4 of us only spend 3 bux now for one issue. anyways that’s my thoughts.

Hey Al, & Zoul

if that’s the case, whats the name of the store you go to and where are they? I am trying to do some sorta a marketing survey about this here to know more…

My opinion on this is probably - if there is a new title it is better to tell your store that you wanted it to ensure you get it, for the first maybe 2 issues. Then afterwards, your store would know how may people are picking it up, then it doesn’t matter that much if you pre-order or not…

Your opinions?

the second preview… looked like it was a cover done by Pat Lee… ?

Udon:
that does make sense i’ll pre-order for the dark stalkers then. anyways my comic store is atomic comics in mesa, arizona. biggest comic store in the city.

also if you can please answer my other question i just wanted to kno. thx a bunch

a lot contributes to the holo foil cover price increase.

The unofficial SRP of the foils has been around 12 to 15 bucks to begin with. Before, on the earlier issues, we were giving away one foil for every 10 copies of SF, until the point that we cannot really afford it anymore. So instead of getting a free copy, retailers are just ordering them now instead. Therefore, I guess that kinda boost up the cost a little…

And recently, the holos are getting more expensive to make because of the exchange rate. The book is printed in Canada and the CDN VS US rates has been on a roller coaster. USD has dropped so much for the last year, and while we managed to keep the pricing on the regular book the same at 2.95, we cannot get any deals on the foils because of the special process and paper stock we need to order. So we did raise the wholesale slightly and thus probably pushed some retailers to up their retail price a bit in order to make the same margin.

not, it is part of the INTERIOR pages, done by Alvin Lee, bkgs by Scott Hepburn, and colored by Gary Yeung.

I dont pre-order. I buy them on-line, usually as packs.

In Midtown Comics in New York, you can pre-order your books coming out for that week on Saturday. You can do this Online, it’s easy, and guarantees me every issue. The only catch is that you have to preorder at least seven books at the same time. Most of the time this works out for me since I’ll buy seven books that same week anyway but once in a while, it doesn’t. For example, Issue 10 came out on a crappy week, wasn’t much to buy except for Rurouni Kenshin Volume Seven for me, so I brought two Teen Titans Go! GNs, a children’s Batman Book and Nightwing wich I don’t read to get seven. But I hit credit at the store - when ever your total purchases at the store reach a hundred bucks you get twenty dollars off - so I only spent sixteen bucks for everything, so it worked out OK.

Yeah, even with the seven book requirement it’s still a hell of a lot easier than normal pre-ordering where you have to think two to three months in advance.

Udons SF Comics are pretty hard to come by here in Holland.
But until now I always got my hands on every issue. So Im considering pre-odering. And if I miss one, there is always the option to buy online.

DS looks AWESOME! Im surely gonna get it!

My seller contacts me to update me on the latest forthcoming SF, DS, RS orders (After I requested it) and then pre-orders them if I’m interested, usually I pre-order a couple of months in advance.

Darkstalkers looks amazing. Once more, you’ve managed to make your comic look better than the animated incarnation of the series. I’ll definitely give it a look.

Dude you gotta be kiddin. The style you see in the comic wouldnt be there if it wasnt for the animated series. The desings in that anime even influenced Joe Madureira’s style. Maybe you saw the wrong anime. Not to take anything away from you guys at Udon. These pages are breathtaking. I wasnt really on board when I heard that Dreamwave was gonna publish the book. But now the title is in the right hands.

I don’t need to preorder my books because the shop I go to, www.ruppsworld.com, a large chunk if it’s sales come from Street Fighter merchandise. While he may have ordered fewer DS just to be cautious, I’m sure it’ll do just as well once word gets out. Then again, Erik, I doubt I’m telling you anything you don’t already know.

Perhaps he’s reffering to the USA Darkstalkers and Street Fighter Cartoons and not the Japanese ones? But yeah, Anime Character Designers Shuko Murase, (DS and SF2AM) Akira Kano (SF2V), and Umakoshi (SFZ) are all great. I’m not sure how you can compare sequential art to animation though. It’s two different things.

Hey Udon. I’m from Houston, I guess I sorta pre-order your comics. The thing is there are two comic shops here in Houston I frequent. Nan’s Comics and Games and Bedrock City Comics. The thing is, Nan’s Comics is only one shop while Bedrock City has 3 locations in Houston so naturally Bedrock orders more.

Both Nan’s and Bedrock do a subscription service where they will pull titles for you and put it in a folder for you. The thing is, since I’m not a heavy comic follower, the only comic I was willing to do the subscription service was with your SF title (this was back when you guys first put out issue 1).

The problem is, since Bedrock orders more then Nan’s and since Diamond Distrobution is so friggin flakey  there has been a lot of times where Nan’s would not have the Holofoils sent to them when Bedrock does get them, or Nan’s would not even get the regular issues in at all. I wanted to support Nan’s since they allowed me to use their subscription service with only one title, but in the end I ended up going to Bedrock to get my SF comics. Bedrock has a policy where you can’t use their subscription service unless you have 3 or 4 titles you want them to pull. Since I only follow your SF comic (and the fact that even though I always buy your regular cover plus the foil, it still only counts as one title) I haven’t been on their subscription service so I don’t pre-order with them.

To be quite honest, I will probably follow Darkstalkers and Rival Schools since I was quite impressed with what I saw in the Summer Special. I have to admit though that I’ve been kind of lazy and have not kept up with release dates. What is the release date for DS#1 and RS#1 (I hope it hasn’t already passed)

Udon:
you know what…i would like to thankyou for putting effort in every issue and making the comics really long. i just bought astonishing x-men 1 and it’s like mother freakin 10 pages it feels like. omfg i paid 3 bux for that and issue 2-4 is already 8 dollars each. anyways keep up the good work and keep making the issues thick like it is.

“Really long” would be 32 pages. “Long” would be more than 24. Some issues of Street Fighter have 18 pages (4 less than the industry standard). Even with the back-ups, they dont go any far. So, i have no idea of what youre talking about.

you need to see the astonishing x-men comic and compare it with this month’s sf issue. you’ll see what i mean. the xmen comic is absolutely pisssss thin
