If I was to make the same surface level analysis you’re making I could say all KOF fans bought XII because it looks like an anime game and has characters you could cosplay as (lmao CyberFanatix).
I’ll indulge and explain why SFIV outsold XII: Better name recognition, better marketing and nostalgia. That’s why it enjoyed mainstream success.
I stopped taking fiol’s posts seriously after he made that 97’ thread and called it a good game.
And it’s truly pretty dumb. How so many people who don’t even play serious just get it because they know the name. And most of them didn’t even know there was a third game in the series. I sometimes get this from people. “OH SHIT STREET FIGHTER?! I GOT NEXT!” And then they get raped.

I’m not saying sales make a better game, but you vote with your wallet. SF4 revived the fighting community, which it greatly needed. If it wasn’t for SF4 even FEWER people would have given a damn about KOFXII and it would have sold less. With how well SF4 sold, a lot of people must like it, as compared to KOFXII that sold nowhere near as well, a lot of people must not like it. Sales are directly related to customer preference, and if you deny that you’re just lying to yourself.
Skip DVD, put it on Blu-Ray
