To ALL PAD PLAYERS OUT THERE

ok thanks alot for the info Geese, im glad i didn’t buy a nuby yet, i’ll start looking for a saturn pad instead

That would be like putting Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s vagina on Brooke Burke.

lol…me getting on the internet is limited. i understand what corner trap is saying and what dark geese is saying also. just like dark geese i enjoy beaten stick players very much! than again i have played stick at the arcade and very deeply understand what corner trap is saying to! so now i understand that there are high level pad players and i think i need to get one of those pads dark geese is talking about also but not giving up on the stick either. so things are easyer and harder on both sides of this. i also understand that sticks are popular because of the arcade scenes but like in HOT ATLANTA where the arcade scene is not as big there are more pad players. i have beaten stick players using a stick to and HONESTLY after hearing all this…i think it just comes down to just pure skill because anything you can do on a stick you can do on a pad and not a comfort ZOne or some things are better or whatever! ITS ALL ABOUT SKILL! i hope i get to play corner trap and dark geese one day and the rest of the other pad players that are high ranked but also to keep playing stick players also. epidemic is a great pad player and i have seen him beat stick players also. maybe one day we will see more pad players because people should not care what other people say or laugh at, let your skills do the talking, later…
MAGNETIC ITACHI

marvel on pad is still good, phat toi and chris schmitd are prime examples, Chris s. made it to 4th at evo on pad iirc in 2004 and phat toi has godly execution, but imo i do think that sticks have more control then pad, but its all about preference.

Stick is the way to go. The only game I have trouble playing with stick is mostly VF. But i’m sure I need to practice getting used to it.

Btw picked up a stick for myself one month ago.

If the stick didnt move about, I would

I bet you “stick” pros out there love wrapping your hands around a nice, hard, pole. Moving it…back…and forth…working up a sweat…

How about a second opinion?

I got a nubytech(ps2 chun li one) months ago and it never broke on me and stepped my game up from when I was using regular ps2 pad(before that I was using my xbox360 controller)

I didn’t retire it till I got my custom stick about a month ago. It was hella worth the 15 bucks I paid for it.
Is it as good as the saturn pad? hell fucking no but if you can’t find a saturn pad and you need a good cheap alternitive nubytech has what you need.

I’ve seen some of the pads go for 10 bucks online. Easy to find and cheap.

Maybe one could also practice getting used to pad? That way, there would be less people claiming stick is the [best] way to go just because they themselves are not as good on pad. It goes both ways.

Win.

No you lose. NEVAR TAKE MAH LINKS MOFO! But seriously, I think he was talking about the PS2 saturn pads, not the original. Those ones are fucking rare though.

I got my joystick about 2 weeks ago, and I still use a controller more. When i’m by myself i’ll usually play stick, and all seems well until I play one of my friends, then I get pissed off and use my ps2 pad.

Yeah show up to Evo with that and see how well you do…:looney:

Even if it plays better, I’d still rather have a modern-looking pad at a tournament…

Im startin to since some hostility fro the pad users…

Sticks are just technically better for the human hand

guess i’ll put my 2 cents in

vs-esque games, stick

og sf-esque games, pad

unless i’m playing mvc2 w/ a saturn pad

then i hold the dpad like a normal pad but place my fingers over the buttons like a stick

I remember there was a time when there were really no arcade stick options for home use available in the US. I had just got my copy of SF2:WW for the SNES in my hot little hands. Though the graphics weren’t up to arcade quality, I was more disappointed by having to use the SNES controller to play.

In this day and age, it absolutely boggles my mind that people choose to use pads when real arcade options are available.

I’ll be the first to admit that Saturn pads are the god tier of gamepads. I owned a Saturn myself. Alpha1/2 on Saturn, with the redesigned Saturn pads (the first gen ones weren’t as good) was really a joy to play. But compared to a stick with real arcade hardware?

Taste and preference is one thing, but stock game console controllers are–when it all boils down to it–toys. They are not solid, business grade products. Arcade grade parts are.

Don’t get me wrong. If you’re happy playing on gamepads, more power to you. I’m glad that you own a product that you are happy using. Just like I don’t understand people who reach for the silver bullet when there is a quality micro brew available, I just don’t understand using a pad when there are higher quality options available.

I kind of wish I did though; my beer tab would be a hell-of-a-lot cheaper if I could cope with Coors Light.

There are three types of people here:

Pad players
People who started on pad, went to stick, and never went back
People who played stick from the beginning

There is nobody who played mainly stick, grew dissatisfied, and went to the pad. There is a LOT of people who played mainly pad, got sick of it, and went to the stick. Why the hell would a stick player want to get used to the pad, particularly one who already went through the effort of going from pad to stick? Give me one good reason.

For me right now I don’t see why anyone would want to play with a pad. Back in the day when SFIIWW came out on SNES I was just fine playing on a pad because as Starcade RIP said there wasn’t anything else to really play on and I had a lot less freedom back then so I never went to the arcade anyway. My only competition was my brother and cousins, and we all used the SNES pads.

When I got a little older I started going to the local college arcade and kept getting my ass handed to me by these older guys so I decided to practice more and be more competitive. So I practiced all the time at home on my pad and started to learn all the combos and practice moves (MvC1 was the big game at the time). I started getting everything down and thought cool now I can beat some of these college guys.

Well to my surprise I still got my ass handed to me. Why? Because doing stuff on a pad did not translate well to doing it on an actual arcade cab. So I saved up and bought a MAS and after using it I did a lot better at the arcade and was able to pull off stuff I practiced at home more consistently against actual people.

Nowadays I won’t even play without a stick. After all these years with a stick at home and going to the arcade it’s just not the same. Even if it’s a piece of crap stick at a friend’s place I would still use it over a pad. Maybe this is a bad analogy but it’s like drinking at home as opposed to going to a bar. Sure it’s more convenient and cheaper but it’s just a whole different experience.

I can dragon/FB faster on Saturn pad, so I play HF/ST on one. I also use it for Trilogy, haha – I REALLY can’t play MK on anything but a Saturn pad, which is weird since I played in the arcade exclusively when it was new.

After seeing a number of people who know Marvel on pad, I think it’s just preference.
