As a Ken and Makoto player, I disagree. If you’re Ken, you should keep the fight mid-screen; don’t let Makoto land Lucky Parry xx 100% stun. Ken vs. Makoto should be mid-screen, with plenty of low strongs thrown out (c.MK recovery allows her to dash in). If I’m a cornered Makoto, and I see my opponent crowding me, I’m happy as hell. If I’m a cornered Maktoto, and I see my opponent retreat mid-screen, making me come to him (he’s now dictating flow of gameplay), I’m out of my element.

vs makoto is all luck, trust me. even some scrubs can randomly srk out and turn the match around.
but yeah if ur not sure, if you have a makoto corner, just walk back, see what he does. then kara throw or c.mk or something.
Don’t stay too grounded. One karakusa can easily mean the end of the round. I’ll gladly eat a couple of fierce hits if it means I avoid getting SAII raped. Also, Makoto’s strength is random, so don’t whiff things unless you need to. Lots of even high level Makotos will resort to random SAIIs when they get desperate and if you whiffed anything longer than 3 frames, you’re going to get hit. She has very little response to corner pressure besides that random SAII so watch for it.
Don’t keep trying to parry her jump-ins either; you’ll just get hit with random tsurugis.
If you block a hayate, you can punish hard, so make sure you do. Also if you get hit with one, you can usually get a jab out before they karakusa or hayate you again.

your best bet is to not stay in one spot too long. listen to a lot of what 2hai said, mix it up between jumps, shoryus, and dashing back is also a good option when you’re waking up with certain characters, and in some post hayate situations. try not to block too often, the majority of this fight relies on luck and guessing… both for you, and the makoto you’re fighting. i find fighting other makotos is a unique experience.
edit: keeping makoto in the corner is the best way to fight her, she can do nothing but block/tech throws… or guess parry. don’t get predictable and get guess parried into karakusa which leads to super which could lead to stun or some mixup that’ll get you stunned. utilize throws a lot if they guess parry. also, don’t do anything that involves jumping near her when she’s in the corner, she’ll just dash under you and get away, leaving the one spot she’s weakest in.

dont jump at makoto trying to parry stuff, thats stupid, she has a million ways to hit you if you randomly try to jump at her. jumping straight up is good sometimes if you predict a dash, but watch out for axe kicks, it’s extremely difficult to parry.
i agre that jumping at her is dumb…i just up and down or i meet her in the air with dudley’s j. strong since it beats her j. forward…
