backdash
CoD will catch backdash, won’t it?
Ok so after another solid month with the game, I would like to make a few revisions. Inside the quote is my new matchup chart, imo. Reasons for making any changes i made, in bold. Discussion would be great. Most of the changes are for the better, I’m starting to really like 2012. Tier list goes Hakan - Opponent so 6-4 would be in favor of hakan.
Interesting thoughts, Citizen. What makes Dan 4-6?
i played like 15~30 games vs each of the following character yesterday lol.
they are medium-advance players (meaning tech well, abuse OP moves, mix-up & some random dp, dont drop combos, mind games) and these are the results/tips i can share:
vs CLAW
-hakans favor, 30-5, and 5 loses due to 99sec turtle/flying away game lol, i m sure he was really scared of hakan now
-U2 to anti the wake up fly-claw/throw pressure for me
-at anytime they fly just CC, this will make his fly 100% useless lol this move should be banned
-s.mp/c.mp/c.lk are all good mix-up whiffing moves for post slide-press j.hk
-no need to OS dives in this match up due to claws flip back duration timing, you can basically just s.lp > s.lp > sl.p > f.lk all day to fish for combo/frame trap and if he flip you can react to input slide and or just jump-in. - note this is the most important/hard part of the game at the start, need to anticipate and or reaction to his evasive flip move, for your dmg/wins to count.
-only thing to careful is the ex.fly even at max distance, if you lk.oil he can still get you, so watch out on this and when doing footsies.
vs ROSE
-its hard if you dont know the match up, but luckily i’ve had many experience, and results 20-3.
-at first i had trouble with this guys dash-back all day… its really op, but i started to OS dive, he got scared and got ‘locked in the toilet’ with hakan
-so i started to do slide-press > s.mp > j.hk, rose can ex.up-grab if you execute j.hk too low. press the j.hk a tad earlier if she does this. Because of this, your j.hk can possible whiff is she b.dash, so always OS~mk/lk.dive, not hk.dive as this bitchs b.dash recovers really fast.
-she stoped b.dash on my jump ins but b.dash after i j.hk > s.lp/s.mp. which i start to use s.mp~OS~lk/mk.dive, and this shuts her b.dash game alot. It was good fun doing j.hk OS mk.dive > s.mp OS mk/lk.dive.
she then started to do ex.drill move instead of b.dash on my close pressure, which i countered with bait and n.j.kick moves.
-she was also using her c.slide > b.dash/combo mix-up at mid-range. i was trying FADNC~combo but sometimes her timing for c.slide is so good that she b.dashed my attack after her slide. so i tried more testing to counter her predictive c.slide > b.dash and eventually the best option is to f.FDNC~f.hk/f.mp. but then i started to get the right timing to Focus-Attack her c.slide and was able to catch her with FADNC~f.mp~slide combo at times.
-this was game over for her, and i felt her helplessness when i get a knockdown. lol
vs Bison(dictator)
-match up knowledge is important, turtling bison can also be hard for hakan. but i m good on offensive so they cant take the turkish oilyness. 15-4.
-slide-press > s.mp > j.hk OS hk.dive kills their intention to back.teleport, mix-up without the OS and use s.lp > link combo which will get them if they started to be smartass and teleport right next to you on your jump-ins.
-mordies alt jump-in strat is important as an additional variation to my gameplay. slide-press > jump-in > options. this shut bisons wake-up ex.devil.stomp move.
-(for me) just like Rose, need to be sticky after one knockdown, and this is where the dmgs and winnings… not just oiling up all day long and cant get in.
-lk.oil or hp/ex.slide punish if they distance turtle and charge-up doing air-flip move.
-pay attention when bisons on offence after scissors kick. you really just need to block his scissor kick bs and turtle this offence from them. this is the only thing that can kill hakan(dry) imo. besides blocking their s.hk (after scissor kick) and do lk.dive, if you are oiled, you can also FADNC~combo as a counter follow-up.
-i bait bisons alot when he has gauge, and when i get a knockdown. sometimes insteaded of safe-j.hk & mordies alt jump-ins i often just walk towards them after slide-press and then jump back on their wake up. this avoides their wake up ex.devil.stomp & ex.psycho.crusher and allow you to punish with c.mk > hp.slide, but this loses to their wake up U1, beware noobs lol
just watched some new bacillusbrains jap video, he mentioned a super valuable option vs rose.
Vs Rose
[ Slide-press > Safe Jump J.hk OS ~ lp.slide ]
-this beats wake up ex.spiral.drill and b.dash at same time!
-this is better than OS dive cuz it gets ex.drill as well.
note: this is not safe-j.hk where you whiff a move after press. this is where you walk back a little after press and then do f.j.hk.
The safe corner pressure he can dish out, really. Thats something Hakan has generally always had a really hard time dealing with. Though these are my opinion based, perhaps I need more matchup experience.
I agree with this list on pretty much everything. Makoto is still a little iffy…a lot of people’s opinions vary pretty wildly on that one. I think oiled Hakan handles her pressure very well, but if she gets in on you while dry, it’s almost an instant loss. I’d probably rate it as even myself. Anyway, the SF4 General board’s tier talk thread is trying to do up a 2012 matchup chart, and I think I’m gonna post this over there. Might as well get some Hakan perspective in there before all of his matchups get filled in with other character mains claiming they beat him 6-4, lol.
Haha, I was thinking about posting it there when I made the list for like a minute, and then I looked at that thread…in general my experience in talking to other players about Hakan lets me know that most other people know NOTHING about Hakan and have very biased unchanging opinions that he’s the worst character in SF history based on the fact that Daigo said he was bad and they never played a real Hakan. I am so easily baited into stupid arguments on SRK with kids who have no idea what they’re talking about, so I’ll not look at the responses. Be ready to defend the list from the onslaught of people who think they know it all, though !
About Makoto, yeah its probably 5-5. I think i let my emotions get to me on that one. I hate when people tell me Hakan matchups are 3-7 whoever they play based on nothing more than “he’s hakan. lolz”. I’ll have an update on this list probably next month. I want to make this monthly as times change, new setups arise, and as I become more experienced.
EDIT: Oh I’ve been baited. -_- Posting in thread now. Lool
Safe to assume that this guide is 50% correct and 50 horseshit? Since it’s so god damn old and inaccurate.
I say 35% correct. Players here are too lazy to refine the thread and not putting work into the character itself.
Well, it’s not like we’re contributing, and I really have no right to complain in all honesty. Besides, how many people here actually play Hakan on a dead-serious level? AFAIK it’s Drew.
I don’t accept Drew as a dead serious Hakan player and that goes the same with WildCat. The way I see them is online warriors and nothing else. If I had to choose who I consider to be the ‘best’, it would be Infiltration.
Re-read what I wrote, son. People here as in on this forum that could actually add some more to this guide.
What more does it need? Oil dive set-ups? Move X beats move Y? Option selecting? If a update going to happen to this guide, it’s going to be gimmick shit.
How about it being more correct? Sakura? There’s so much shit excluded, like how to the Cody section doesn’t mention F.MP and the Blanka section doesn’t mention ANYTHING about his normals? Stuff like that. It’s a good guide, but there’s just some shit that should be in there.
That’s where you come in. Play the match up and fill in the details. Give your in-sights on how the match-up should be played and see what others think of your strategy.
Problem with that is that I have a friend that main Sakura and most times I win cause I can read her, so it’s not really character specific, more like player specific for me.
Might as well say that Hakan is the gate keeper to see if you suck at fighting games.
True, true. Anyways, I suppose I could mention that against Sakura I mostly go for U1, U2 is a good choice as well thou but you can punish blocked MK and HK tatsus with U1 if you’re quick enough, don’t even try the LK and EX ones thou. CC works amazingly against her SRKs and oil-dive mostly stuffs her SRKs on wake-up as well, not entirely sure about the EX one thou. You SHOULD be able to punish her MK tatsu with c.lp into slide, if not a rocket should work well enough.
