"Time to get serious!" Hakan Match-up Thread

That’s kind of my point. Cr.mk isn’t for randomly tossing out in footsies. It’s good for combos and whiff punishes. Stick to mp if you want some safe footsies.

You don’t seem to understand my point thou. Its the fact that Hakan’s safe footsie game is so lacklustering when compared to the rest of the cast.

…that’s why Hakan is low tier.
Only when he is oiled up he can tank through others… not with footsie.
When dry… u stick to safe jump setups and knock down to oil.
His best footsie poke is s.hp, s.mp, f.lp, f.lk. almost everything else is unsafe on blocks and some even on hit.

vs JURI

[ slide-press > s.mp > f.j.hk ]
-safe cross up jump
-hit/whiff all.wheel and U1

punish blocked wheel kick:
lk.wheel = [ f.lk > slide ], [ lk.dive ]
ex.wheel = [ f.mp/c.mk > slide ], [ mk.dive ]

his s.mk’s are stupid good for footsies. they’re near disjoined. even s.rk i’ve been using, and placed correctly you win trades on the damage end of things.

Just played the 1st Dhalsim on PSN, he looped cr.LP and DF.LK. Its a frametrap that Hakan can’t punish with anything except U1.

Balrog: You can’t do F.MP xx HK dive, Balrog can just backdash out of it. You have to do F.MP meaty if you want the dive to hit. Otherwise he can just FADC back to safety, but since its really rare for Balrog to do it anyways… IF he does FA a lot, do F.MP xx HK and delay it ever so slightly and let it rip.
Also, ex dive moves Hakan’s hurtbox further, its actually outside his model. Don’t toss ex dive out as means of punishing a special unless there’s a 100% it hits. So much fun to get hit by a normal when you’re a mile away from him…

Aprox 6:44 in, Kimo’s Hakan vs Vangief’s Zangief. Holy shit. Kimo is showing some excellent tech against Gief’s crossup shenanigans.

awesome stuff KIMO!

Meh, Ibuki is a 8-2 matchup for Hakan. Can’t do nothing about her kunai crap without U2 and her kicks loops is unpunishable too.

Oh and Roses that jump back is impossible to get in on. her F.HK works as a universal AA that hits you regardless if your jumparc is high enough. It hits straight up and when you cross her up. So yeah that kinda makes it impossible to go in on her. FA doesn’t work cause its too obvious so she can reaction spiral.

EDIT: DeeJay guide is out of date. One good tip and that is the F.MP after an oil. You can’t space deejay out. Punish all his sobats with a SPD, don’t touch him if he has U2, try to bait it out with safe jumps. You can’t punish ex MGOs cause of the pushback.

Dhalsim can hit you fullscreen when he jumps so no you can’t slide against Dhalsim, much better to just go for FAs You can try to FA punish his teleports too but they’re risky so its better to DNC if he’s teleporting while you’re holding FA. Options against Dhalsim are FADC, ex slide and nothing else. You don’t do dives cause its too risky and completely useless. Rely on FADCS and punish his teleports. Rest of the guide is moot. You can’t jump back either if he does U1 cause he can teleport and do his drill down and push you into the fireball so your best bet is to EX slide under the U1. (This is only if you’re in the corner thou lol.

Balrog update: You can’t oil up on backthrows if you toss him into the corner. Try to bait out a rush punch or something with ex oil into CC.

General update: These are the normals that you can just grabed out of: cr.LPLKMPMKHK and F.MP.

Also, if you parry a FA the enemy’s FA and let your fa rip with no oil, its unsafe on hit so you have to fa back. Kinda silly but still very annoying.

Seth update: If he goes for stepkick when you’re in the corner, the second and third one is a crossup cause fuck logic he isn’t hitting you upfront at all nope.

OH BTW: BURNKICK IS A PROJECTILE.

Fucking Capcom

vs BOXER
one slide knock down and its in hakan favour.
the updated safe jump OS dive setup is:

[ slide-press > walk forward a tiny frame > f.lk > f.j.hk OS mk dive ]
-whiffs all headbutt and OS dive punish
-cross up on his ex.dash punch
-hit crouch/b.dash/dash punches.
-if you dont walk forward a tiny, still works except the ex.dash punch will hit you.

vs C.VIPER

updated safe jump OS is:

**[ slide-press > c.lp > f.j.hk OS c.hk ] **
-blocks her hp.upper
-OS c.hk punishes her b.dash & ex.seismo dodge
-ex.burnkick whiffs to the other side
-this is a must learn for vs vipers.

Update on the DeeJay matchup: Options against his short hop kick: Zero except F.MP which might whiff. No normals beats it in the air except if you’re deadsure that he’s going to toss it out, in that case you can jump back and MP xx ex slide. However, the lk oil into meaty F.MP works splendid, like seriously works well. I’d suggest tossing it out if he’s very happy with jackknife.

Both setups looks really nasty, really nice find. A tip against Viper is that if you’re going to use super as AA punish, I like to use the projectile invul one cause if she cancels the jump or tries to hit you with a burn kick, it’ll whiff and you can punish her for free.

On another note: The Gen matchup is in Gen’s favor but its not impossible. Whenever you go into an airbattle, toss out MP, LP or LK as fast as possible and you’ll in most cases hit. This is cause Gen’s airnormals all come out really quick but they don’t have a lot of activation time, which means that Gen players will in most cases toss out their airnormals when they’re on their way down. So keep that in mind. Dives beats a lot of his specials as well, afaik it beats the gekiro, oga and hands, not sure about the roll thou. Same with the slides, they’re free as long as he has no meter so be sure to mix both slides and dives in. However, if he has meter and ultra, no dives or slides will work but CC avoids Gekiro, Oga and both versions of U1 and both versions of U2. Gen can punish backdashes with U1 and U2 so a really good bait is to do backdash into CC. So far, parrying works pretty well against his airnormals too except his targetcombo but I wouldn’t go for parrying when you’re close enough to get hit by his cr.MP or any normal that Gen can cancel into hands, hands beats the shit out of your parries. So instead, try to stay out of the closer ranges and try to bait out any of his longrange normals with an FA cause those are punishable by either letting the FA rip, DNC f.mp/cr.MK xx slide.

Thus, the important part is so space Gen out properly and be very careful when you’re at the closer ranges. If you do this properly, the Gen matchup shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

Is there any way for hakan to punish Seth’s engine? Doesn’t look like Hakan can punish it at all, only if he does it midscreen or something, 50/50 regardless.

Also, did you know that Hakan has no crouchtechs? All of his normals gets beat by regular grabs, so technically he doesn’t have a crouchtech.

Hakan vs Bison : 8 - 2 max, its completely in Bisons favor in everyway, to the point where his normals beats U1. You can’t punish anything. Name one special that you can punish that isn’t wakeup crusher. Its by far the worst matchup in the game, on par with Thawk vs Blanka.

You can punish Scissor kick with oil rocket right?? Oiled though… I know I have a really hard time with Bison players…

You can punish HK scissors if they’re close. Which they never are cause why would they go for it when they can do anything else for free?

Crossups doesn’t work on hawk.

well the hakan cross kick works on hawk:
[ slide-press > c.mp > f.j.hk ]
-all dp whiffs
-hits them if they crouch/stand/jump
(but they can 360 you on block if you dont jump again straight away)

Bison is hard but not that hardest honestly.
especially if they are turtle bison then you have higher chance to win = more oil

You’re wrong. Hawk can delay the DP which will hit.
