I suppose depending on your life you could always spend some blood on Oil, cause it really helps a lot when you have oil. LK Dive works well if he’s really wailing away with the punches, like two straights in a row or some shit like that. And the Upper you’re talking about can be focused, which I think you should do regardless of oil or not. Always punish the punches that you can FA, especially if they’re fullscreen. If Balrog is tossing them out fullscreen, bait it out and charge FA for a full crumple. ALWAYS go for slide into crossup, its just too damn good against Balrog. And if he’s doing turnaroundpunch, U1 really makes the difference. (Seriously, dat tip is gold, thank you so much jiuplayer.)
Are Ryu’s that jump back and forth all day always 8-2? I lost to a Ryu with 3400PP that did only that. I can’t win against Ryu in the air either cause J.HK blows through everything and I can’t jump in on him cause cr.HP is too good. Wtf?
Also why is it that Hakan’s hitbox when doing U2 is straight up? Has Capcom never seen a man lying down? What the fuck is wrong with asians?
Update on the Dhalsim matchup: You can’t swat away with S.Hp on a teleport. So please, if you want to give Dhalsim free teleport combos, make this a habit. <3
And if he has super, you bet your ass that it will blow through everything except EXslide so your mixup game dissapears once he has super.
Seriously thou, S.HP against teleport is such a blatant lie, you don’t do it on reaction, you DELAY IT and hope that he slaps in the right direction.
Fun fact: You can’t hit T.Hawk if you jump at the same time, he goes straight above Hakan.
Another fun fact is that Vega players doesn’t need to use any specials except the roll. Best matchup ever, Hakan is powerless and Vega can chip away all day, lol. Never cease to dissapoint me, Capcom.
Another thing is the Dhalsim Matchup. I can’t see how its (according to Infil.) 9-1 in hakan’s favor? Its a free matchup, Dhalsim can jump back and punish every slide with his drills. If Hakan gets cornered, you’re done for, Dhalsims pressure game is by far better than your own. So if Dhalsim gets your cornered, you better hold back and wait until he goes for a throw which will only reset the situation. And then, when you’re eating shit in the corner, your only hope is to jump. That’s it, you have no other options against Dhalsim in the corner. U1 against his slide works thou, but he doesn’t really need to use the slide if you’re in the corner since he can loop yoga flame and blast for 20 seconds.
Do you ever go in the training room?
Yes? It still doesn’t change the fact that a lot of the stuff in the guide isn’t correct. I might as well mention that I play on PSN meaning that there is a huge lack of players, especially good players. So there is a huge lack of variety in my opponents. ( Figures since most players sooner or later switch to XBL/PC.)
You obviously haven’t tried everything to beat vega’s roll.
Blocking is not an option unless you want to reset the situation, jumping is not an option cause a lot of your air normals will either trade or get beat hard.
Doesn’t BDNC MP beat out Vega’s roll and if blocked allow Hakan to trade with or beat out his followup?
Spacing dependent but I’ll keep that in mind. I know that you can BDNC the last hit but if you try to FA it mid animation its dependent on when in the roll you FA… Really tricky.
Bison is a 8-2 matchup isn’t it? I mean, you can hardly punish ANY of his specials, only one being crushers which mostly are used to escape… I seriously don’t know what to do in this matchup because nothing stops Bison. Yeah, you can kinda stop scissor pressure with F.LP but having one option against everything else is pretty horseshit imo. I mean, you can’t jump at him cause ALL of his specials works as brilliant AAs except teleport. What the fuck is that about, man?
Edit: Uh… Well… If he goes for the Somersault Skull Diver after a stomp… You can just hold forward and it will whiff…
That made my day much better. xD
Nj.hk is good against scissor kicks. Just guess; Bison has little life, so it’ll scare him, if he sees you doing it and hammer him if it lands. Bison needs to space properly, too, in order for his scissors to be safe, too, so try to use that against him. Once he starts getting too close, you can punish him. Also, a properly spaced fj.mk is good against Bison, but it’s got to be about max range. F.mp is quite good for getting inside, too. A good set up against Bison that I watched a top Hakan use is oily slide-press, still oily dash, nj. As you land, you can block his psycho crusher. Also, use OS f.mp as a jump-in option select to dodge stomp and punish back dash. Drew is more the expert on this matchup, but I got a few of these things from him. Oh, and don’t do fast wake-up after scissors, because that sets him up for cross up psycho crushers. Lastly, back jump hp is very good against his air specials, like stomp. Just learn to do it on reaction. That and remember to be willing to sacrifice blood for oil against him, when you’re long range. If you get stomped occasionally, you live with it, 'cuz it’s worth it.
Sick stuff, thank you so much. Yeah he told me about that godlike F.LP. If you’re oiled you should be in range to do SPD too since it catches normals. I’ll keep all of this in mind, thanks again.
Info on the sakura matchup: U1 imo is the best choice, you can punish her HK Tatsus with it. S.MP works for the crossup, counterhits regular srks if I’m right and EX whiffs completely (which you can punish with a slide). Uncrouchables work well too except on EX SRKS unless she has U2 or 1, they’ll hit the dives. You can BDNC her cr.LK into SRK loops if you’re quick enough, stuff that kick with a FA dash cr.LK and get yourself a delicious free spd.
Another update: Never use F.MP against Balrog unless its a punish, its unsafe. -5? Jesus christ. Who came up with the idea to make a normal safe ONLY if you FADC it? Capcom really don’t know how to balance their games.
To keep going with the Balrog matchup, FA is useless. You won’t fight a good Balrog that just randomly throws out rushpunches. You can DNC his pokes thou. IMO this is in Balrogs favor cause you can’t do shit against Balrog until you have U1, which kinda makes this matchup unfair from the start. Can’t punish rushpunches unless they’re meaty, can’t punish turnaround unless you have U1. So that leaves the upper, the smash, OH and turnaround. Yay. Specials that a Balrog player never really throws out. (Except turnaround and OH.)
Next: Ken - you can’t do fullscreen LK oil, Ken can do air tatsu and then SRK to reach you.
To continue, the crossup only works if she does a SRK. Otherwise it’ll whiff completely. Don’t use F.MP unless you have meter to FA it, she’ll destroy you otherwise. Don’t jump in, cr.HP knocks everything. If she’s got you in a mixup, your best bet is to waste super to get out, blocking it is just a waste of time cause she have so many options against Hakan. If you’re cornered its basically over. If you have her in the corner, its 50/50.
Now to Deejay: Just a little headsup, if he’s laming it out with booms fullscreen, don’t jumpin, he can do cr.HK or whatever that sweep is as an AA and it beats everything.
Have you tried LK 360k after blocking rush punches? For a lot of specials that leave people standing at small frame disadvantage in front of Hakan, a reversal DDT will be uncrouchable, and often un-backdashable. I don’t remember if Balrog’s rush punches are affected by that quirk, and I can’t check right this second…if they are, all he can do after you block one is mash cr LP at frame disadvantage, or guess Headbutt.
for Sakura, i’ve mentioned before that s.mp > j.hk sometimes misses crouchers. You need good timing.
However there is an alternative = c.lk. works as great.
if She does c.hp, it wont hit you, most likely ur j.hk whiffs… and you are still in frame advantage to punish her c.hp recovery.
once she has U2, just use the standard safe jump (step back > f.j.hk/n.j.hk).
f.mp is a double edge sword, but you should never do it relentlessly to high/smart players.
i can be easily punished by all cast on reaction.
for Boxer, Focus & FA is still very good to use imo.
Obviously if they are good and playing patiently then you need to use considerably, but it’ll definitely still come out a lot in this match up for me.
Because of this, they will stop doing the rush punch (hardest to punish besides Focus/FA), then the OH and turn punch can be punished accordingly.
note on Dhalsim
Dhalsim is not free, but it is very much in Hakans favor once you get your offense and oil going.
The hardest fight here is to deal with Yoga Tower, which is invincible to our ground normals/slide/grab/spd.
I remember it avoids s.hp and dives as well.
still working on the best way for Hakan to deal with this.
Alright, I’ll keep that in mind, I haven’t had the time to really lab it out lately (dem studies, mang) but that sounds pretty good. Yeah the Boxer matchup basically comes down to patience and if he’s going for a really obvious turn around punch you can always slide it on reaction. What I’ve started to do is FA and then backdash into CC, if you time it right you can punish both pretty well.
Yeah the Dhalsim matchup is kinda wonky tbh, Yoga Tower CAN be punished by dives, but I’m not 100% sure. I played against a Dhalsim who kept doing Towers against HP slides so I did MP slide and then Dive which worked most of the times. If Dhalsim likes to do it in like mid range I’m fairly certain that you can just jump forward and smack him with j.HK into full combo. ALSO: Meaty F.HP (Hakan Spear) works WONDERS against Dhalsims wakeup, it slaps him out of Backdashes and keeps him in range for a SPD. If you do it “Semi-meaty” you’ll still be in time to slide against a Teleport or at least dash after him so that he doesn’t gain too much ground.
Sakura: FA parries works REALLY well against her, especially if she’s going for pokes and such cause you can get a full combo on all of her standing pokes. And indeed, Dives do catch her normal SRK as long as you don’t stand right next to her. (Except EX SRK, but IMO you should always go for safejumps and the crossup when she has meter.) I’ll keep the cr.LK setup in mind, thanks a bunch, both of you.
