Tight Pants Ban Takes Effect in Indonesia

I agree completely. The part I wanted to point out most was where she claimed that fundamentalists basically want to make the entire female body private which, in effect, keeps women down. I believe that there are plenty of moderate Muslims who understand exactly what the Qur’an says and just choose to ignore the more insane parts. Christians do the same with the Bible.

You didn’t get the memo? If you don’t live there you can’t have any information or thoughts on the situations there.

The insurance industry. How they’re going to be run out of business. And how it costs a radical amount of money. This is well outside of political power plays (though the bill itself was really the Democrats strong-arming something through).

Because a person can’t make a topical political joke on the internet without a bunch of foreigners airing their dirty laundry about why they don’t like X person’s opinion on Y subject that they feel Z on.

When did I make an assumption about you?

But let’s go back to talking about silly Islamic radicals. At least that’s an international problem.

thanks for the name thurst i dedicate the above link in your honour.

Because Bill Maher is an intelligent, articulate source of information on religion.

are they gonna ban sagging pants too?

Let’s quit with the healthcare talk and get back to how shitty a religion islam is.

Indonesia is a country where (like many islamic countries) female genital mutilation and beating women is a very common practice. I hardly think tight pants is a big deal to those guys. What a disgusting religion.

bill maher’s points are generally pretty solid and articulate, he’s obviously bias but he’s not lying or making shit up.

Had a discussion years ago with one of my ex college friends (not friends anymore) about how Muslim religion oppresses woman to the point where they can’t even be who they are gender-wise, and she just shrugs it off and says “Well, that’s their religion and their way of life.”

Slavery and black oppression was a way of life not too long ago, and with an attitude like that, who knows how much longer it would have lasted.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali has the right idea, and how ironic that she was born in Africa. She knows oppression when she sees it, and she’ll speak out about it no matter how many Islam extremists threaten to silence her voice…And she’s kinda cute.

Exactly, I hate the whole “all cultures are beautiful and equal” thought process. If your culture thinks it’s ok to beat and severely disfigure women’s genitalia then your culture is trash.

edit: nvm. I dunno what my point was.

OMG I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!

This is what I’'ve been saying for years, YEARS! The hypocritical dichotomy between moderate muslims is what has cause all these problems in the grand scheme. They are torn over the actions of their extremist brethren due to their semi-adherence to their faith and love of Western freedoms, so end up protesting western offenses while defensively posturing themselves anytime there’s a terrorist attack or muslim hate crime.

ayaan hirsi ali drops some quotable shit almost every time i’ve heard her speak, last night on colbert she even managed to sneak a good one in

she’s completely correct about us needing to drop the politically correct pretense and actually examine what the fuck is going on.

I don’t know if “better” is the right term but I see what she’s saying. You can’t really say one culture is better than the other because that’s all pretty subjective. You can definitely talk about which ones foster women’s rights, which ones encourage education, etc etc. I really think that saying one is “better” than another will just lead people down the wrong path of discussion.

if you believe in good/bad and right/wrong then you should be able say one thing is better than the other. i mean (all jokes aside) women’s rights, education, freedom of speech, etc… aren’t these all obviously good things? if one culture promotes them and another shuns them then you have to say that it’s a better culture.

For the most part I agree. I generally don’t make judgments about other cultures UNTIL they start stepping other people’s toes. When it’s part of your culture to cut the clitoris off female children and beat the living hell out of them then other cultures (where that shit isn’t acceptable) ARE better.

I’m not a fan of seeing men’s underwear reguardless of pant size.

I love my skinnies, and I’ve had nothing but compliments in them so they’re not going anywhere.

you missed the point of the video entirely but GG tho.

Like I said before, good and bad are subjective terms so using them to describe cultures is essentially a waste of time. You can easily say, however, which cultures are more tolerant of others. Which embrace change faster. Which ones adapt to the times with the most ease. And so on. These are things which can be measured and tested. There really isn’t a yardstick for “good.”

He was spot on, but any value it had is curbed by the fact that this particular segment is sandwiched between rants about what a terrible human being Mother Theresa was.

It’s like a Klansman saying Obama is doing a crappy job. You may or may not agree, but we all know he didn’t come to that conclusion by thinking about it.

You’re trying to think too hard. Things like gambling, drinking, prostitution etc are morally subjective. Mutilation and severe beating of innocent women IS wrong, that’s not subjective.
