Friends, i cower my head in shame at asking this: any tips vs Deejay?
is it as simple as run away full screen/fireball? slide effs up my tiger knee pressure, the Ex fullscreen horizontal kick punishes fireballs. There’s gotta be a super obvious range/strategy that I’m missing. Any help?
Personally, I’ve always found dee jay to be tough… When he has meter, it’s like he can just charge at half screen and i feel like I can’t do anything (fireball = EX kicks, can’t jump, etc.)! And even without meter, he has better mobility around fireballs than a lot of characters thanks to the knee shot.
neutral jump mk into cr mp into whatever works well against slides and the charging kicks. if u can get a read on the slide pattern you can also punish with focus. Best strategy is to zone him out with fake outs and tigershots. use TS as an ender instead of TK. I do agree that his low jump arc and moves make him a troublesome opponent though…especially online.
The Ryu matchup cannot possibly be a 5-5 at this point. Surely it’s in Ryu’s favor. I mean…im not the most competent Sagat, but damn. I play a Ryu regularly offline and granted he is a better SF player than i am but the ratio is usually 60-40% wins for him. I played him yesterday and it was 80-20%.
Ryu’s fireball buff makes him own Sagat in the midrange. There was absolutely nothing i could do. He initiates fireballs and if you dare respond you get a half screen jumping roundhouse… get tentative with tiger shots and just get walked down to the corner with cr mk into hado kens and that is where you die.
Another thing is that ryu’s stand and crouch jab beat everything sagat does up close bar a risky dp. It was pretty demoralizing.
Ryu does beat Sagat now, no question. With the speed of the fireball increased he relies less on EX fireballs which means he can save meter which means etc etc… Its a knock on effect basically, since he can compete better now, he not only controls the close, but he can stay put at the mid range if he wants to. Ryu with 2 bars all the time now (or even 3 for the RF cancel) is a good Ryu.
If you think Ryu is demoralising, wait until you play Akuma.
I’d pick U2 now against both Ryu and Akuma since they are going to be competing more in the FB game.
lol, with the lack of a reliable anti air normal, i doubt we even have that. we have to rely on quick reactions to do a risky dp, whereas a lot of the cast have a one button press anti air ( cr fierce for shotos, back mp for cody etc.). Sagat’s standing roundhouse is useful against grapplers, but there are a lot of ways to get past that, and once people are within cr mk range, that goes out the window and you have to rely on lp dp or get jumped in on and basically toyed with at close range.
Sagat does reasonably well against balrog and Gief, but rose and chun arent going to be any easier…i’d argue Bison’s better footsies would serve you more than sagat’s tools in those matches.
Sagat’s only a good counter against grapplers, otherwise you’ll get your shit pushed in by good Rose or Chun players. Even Balrog is a hell tough match if you don’t know spacing and small details. Problem with trying to pick Sagat as a counter is that he’s one of the hardest characters to play. Sagat’s not a really a pocket character unless you want to put the hard yards in. A pocket character is Fei Long, Cammy, Yun - #Insert character that takes about 2 months to get good with#
Think about how many times in a tourney you’ve seen Sagat get picked as a counter unless it’s Zangief. I can’t think of any.
That’s very true. I’ve always like sagat despite of his slow walk speed. I did a few of his trials and watched some bonchan thought I was ready for some online play…NO I was getting worked. Im looking for a new main/sub but I’ll agree he’s not your ordinary counter if he is at all.
I feel sagat has what it takes to be good, not vanilla good be because of the damage of course but still good. At the same time I just feel everyone else is better
I feel he does footies is something I really need to work on and my patience because a lot of the time that’s what gets me killed. I played a sagat probably 2 months ago played soooook lame smh his spacing and fire ball game on point. Then 2nd round he was all offensive the j.mk is so good. I eventually had him on his heels in the corner then this sick FADC idk what it was I think it was c.mk TS FADC c.lk c.lp TU then eventually ended the round with EX TS into tiger cannon I didn’t think that even connected. The way the game play style shifted I wanted to main gat but he’s so hard to pick up let alone master
lol… Sagat’s moves do look pretty badass, i’ll give you that. He isnt the most execution heavy character, but as you said earlier, spacing and knowledge of normals and defensive options is key. I have been maining Sagat exclusively for a little over a year now and i still feel like a beginner, so yeah…learning curve is kinda steep.
