Hmmm i dont need bison advise i need happy medicine advise. That fool is gdlk

There’s something I’ve been using a lot against Dudley, and I don’t really see it being done by anyone else. I know it’s risky using focus as an AA, but you can catch the business elbow EVERY time with focus. At least, I’ve never missed it, and I’ve played some good Dudleys. I think it has to do with both how tall Sagat is, and how long the elbow takes to start up. Anyway, it puts Dudley into an air juggle state and you can follow with whatever you’d like.
I’m certain this works on other characters, but they need to be hitting moves with big hitboxes and long startups, or doing jumping attacks early.

anyone know anything about guy?

Yeah, fighting a good one is a fucking nightmare. I’ve had some success rushing him down and using U2 to just cut out all elbow drops. Also I find it easier to pre-empt him with Air to Air Fierce(all directions, neutral, back, forward) as opposed to trying to AA him on the ground with TU. That’s in scrub land though, It may be different at higher levels.

I know your best off keeping all your meter for FADC because it can be hard to get the little bastard off you. You have to crouch block most of the time to avoid most of his bullshit plus his overhead and wheel kick are quite slow but I presume you already know all that. You can TU on reaction to block strings ending in shoulder (not safe) but you really have to be on point.

Heavy Weapons play’s Phero (good Guy player) alot, he’d probably be able to help.

Try playing against Davero next time you’re at HQ or something, he’s got the best Guy in the city. Highlandfireball is right about the TU being iffy when guy jumps, you gotta take advantage of Sagat’s AA normals with reach i.e Cr.Hp, St.hk, St.mp Cl.Mp etc. Kara TU/TK are also good options Guy can punish Sagat hard on a whiffed TU and set him up for an ambiguous cross up that’s also a Safe Jump(yay).

You gotta take advantage of Guy’s shit wake up game, his back dash is GODLIKE but if you option select st.hp you can punch him out of it, any blocked Ex.Spin Kick by Guy can be punished with either Raw Ultra(1 or 2) and Kara TU/TK

Sometimes it’s worth taking the grab from guy, a lot of Guy players do run stop st.hp Frame traps that do a ton of damage(off counter hit) + crazy setups on your wake that follow due to the position. I get a lot of milage out of slow and medium HIGH ts in this match, I don’t know why but It controls the field at certain distances for Sagat.

Also go into training mode to see what distances Guy’s slide is punishable, elite Guy players will know the safe distance, but it’s still good to keep in your mind in case they ever slip up.

Somethings to watch out for Guy his Cr.mp is a FANTASTIC AA so against good Guy’s you won’t be jumping in on free unless you know your spacing, his cr.mk is also an underrated AA. Watch out for DEEP cross ups on your Wake up, it sucks because Sagat has a huge Frame and that IMO is the toughest thing about the match-up. When Guy tries to Cross up Sagat when it’s NOT on wake up, you can Auto correct DP, just do it later and use the crouching shortcut to lower your hitbox.

Emblem I believe has a good write up of this match, check it out!

Does anyone have any advice on the Feurte match up? Played a very good El online and I could always get him down on health but could never finish the job, his run jump command grab makes my life a living hell, PLUS he bodies me on wake up. He also knew how to do the run hp loop so any whiffed TU was punished HARD.

I use a lot of neutral jump mk (actually I just use this move a lot period :D) , it seems to cut out a lot of the ELF bullshit air to air or if he slides.

I also use regular TK and EXTK a lot , kind of like as if I was fighting Dudley to keep that space out in front clear, it’ll knock him out of those bait runs he whiffs in front of your face. Other than that you must 100% punish the wall dives with TU/kara TU or towards roundhouse. It’s not that hard to do as he goes to the wall quite slow. Also I find shots to be more of a burden as he can’t really be zoned so personally I use them sparingly.

I never really play any good elfs, actually it’s hard to even identify a good elf since they all really rotate the same bullshit. Again these are just my experiences with him, better players may have more valuable info.

Won’t be able to play for a while, but wanted to ask if you guys think it would be possible to hide a option select Ultra off of Sagat’s f.lk? I always catch people mashing after that the foot hits

ultra has a really slow startup. just observe what they do and go for a frame trap.

Oh sagat, why u so op?

I KNOW MAN SO BORING!!!
Now excuse me whilst I carry on playing Sagat…
Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, st. RH, TIGER UPPERCUT FADC ULTRA! Yay!

any advice on sagat vs guile and sagat vs sim ?

please dont just say “switch to sub”…actual advice would be great

I got some basic advice.

Guile is a straight out fireball war, which you should win, you don’t need to get fancy in the guile match just out zone him and push him further back to the corner. Some people use U2 in the guile match but I prefer U1, I don’t have the reactions to Ultra booms that recover so fast. You have plenty of meter in this match anyway. Just remember to dash up after your Tiger shots to close the ground faster.

Sim is actually quite similar in terms of zoning but you usually have to let him dictate the space - you want to trade your low shots against his fierce and other pokes from far screen, also EX fireball (most important use of meter) through flames and hit confirm into Ultra 2 is what your looking for at that range. If sim is sitting mid screen there’s not really much you can do other than wait it out. You’ll get counter hit and your Tiger Shots start up busted all day from that range. You can’t jump in on a standing sim either, too many buttons.

You can use Kara EX knee to close the full screen if you want to play rush down against him. You have to punish the close teleports with TU or hit confirm also. It’s up to you, I’ve seen Sagat players through out random TU to catch limbs but I’m not a fan of that personally unless you’ve got some great reading skills. Hard match against a good sim player. Other little snippets would be punishing teleport and blocked Yoga sniper with Ultra 2, and the fwd HK hits Sim twice in the air.

You can also kara uppercut an incoming sniper from Sim if your quick enough. Both characters are somewhat free on wake up so cr.lk pressure and cr.mp counter hit confirms are good wake up options. That’s if you can get in though.

Hello! I’m a Makoto player, and I think my personal worst match-up is against Sagat. I can’t ever seem to win against him.

I’m not sure what his disadvantages are in general, so no matter what character I use, I’m clueless on punishes / tactics. I was hoping to get some tips from 'gat players to help make the match a bit less 1 sided. At least for me anyway!

Biggest problems are:

  1. Tiger Knees - how safe are they on block, and in what sort of situations can I expect a (seemingly) ‘random’ knee to be thrown out?
  2. Tiger Shots - the different speeds are really confusing to navigate, even with tsurgi-hopping. Is there a general pattern I should be aware of to get around them? Also, the high-low mix-up is super annoying!
  3. Tiger Uppercuts - If I’m dodging fireballs, how do I avoid them especially the kara-uppercut? Is it generally the same rule as Ryu uppercuts?

His normals end up catching me out often too. There’s lot’s of lk/lp block strings that seem like frame-traps into knees? Is this the case? Or am I overestimating Sagat’s frame advantage?

Any tips or Euro PSN players feel like adding me and helping me train would be appreciated!

You’re gonna find out soon that Makoto hard bodies Sagat IMHO lol. Neutral jump when you think Sagat is going to TK, they have super shitty recovery. If you have a normal that makes you smaller the TU will often whiff, like Ryu’s cr.mk

Walk Sagat down if you have to and fadc through FB’s. Low Tigershots take longer to recover than high ts, so if you’re gonna jump over any, jump over those. Bait Sagat on wake up with Makoto’s back dash etc.

Go into training and see Makoto’s empty jump distances vs TU and Kara TU, very important for baiting tu.

Thanks for that!

Can you just help me clarify what Sagat’s options are after a blocked knee? Is it essentially the same with after Ken’s EX Tatsu where I’m left in a throw/uppercut mixup?

I know that at max range, blocked knee can be hit with Makoto’s strong/MP but up close is where I find the situation more difficult to interpret.

No problem, a perfect spaced TK is likely only a 0 on block. I believe a LK can be +1 on block, I’d just back dash to be honest(lol). His EX tk is a different story,if you’re crouching he can frame trap you hard, I believe someone posted it was +4 if your crouch but that seems so high haha.

TK(all of them) have ZERO invincibility, zero…nothing. If you have a high priority normal that comes out quick you can stuff all his knees, like Ryu’s st.lp. There are really safe knees, but Sagat’s need to know how to do it, and 90% of them you fight won’t know how.

After a knee a lot of Sagat’s will throw(3 frame) cr.lp(3 frame), TU(‘frame trap’) or back dash. If you’re worried about it i’d just back dash, but watch out for the Kara TU.

Me no likey Ibuki vortex :’( I can block it alot better with my other characters for some reason but with Sagat I feel more helpless. Any tips?
