just quickly i gotta retract what i said about seths dp and being able to forward jump its only if he delays his dp i think i by mistake was delaying the second dp… so jumping forward will only allow you to escape the delayed dp feel terrible if i got ppls hopes up i didnt notice i was delaying the dp slightly my bad sorry dudes i double checked it earlier and i realized my error sadface
Here is a tip to those just starting to learn the seth match, you can Focus through a stretchy arm from Seth and hit him with you U2! His stretch arm does not have Sim like recovery
hey guys i know alotta of my sagat brothers hate the akuma matchup and some think it’s his worst matchup i think its def not a good matchup for sagat but i feel i do well in this matchup i’ve had lots of experience since vanilla i’ve been fighting Toxy who imo is one of the best akumas in the world.Especially at the sagat matchup he’s beaten some top sagats and got alotta props from tokido as well. i got some footage for you guys to check out i feel the akuma matchup is not doomed theres ways to counter him and tbh i faught tokido a few times so i feel like im really well practiced on the matchup i also have another akuma from melbourne who is super strong against sagat his name is ero oyaji very tricky akuma though he’s inconsistent . got some footage here that maybe can help some ppl i lost and tbh i made some mistakes with a few things and know where i went wrong one major mistake was a few times i didn’t anti air . when myself and toxy face off we kinda break some rules cos we are playin the player due to being really good friends and knowing eachothers game. so have a look and hope some ppl can take something from it even though i lost.

Now that I played against more Akuma’s, I think Ultra one is the ultra of choice to use against him. I love the things you can shit down with U2(air fire ball, teleport etc) but good Akuma’s will be in your face the entire fight(most akuma’s for that matter), they need to fear 500+ damage
I fucking hate akuma. I hate the way he can link a jab off that spammed HK which then links into sweep. Shits just wrong man. That HK should have been put to -3 or 4 if it’s done up close like a rekka. Remember all the akuma players having fits over the nerfs and I’m like “yeah WTF you can still spam the shit out of it safely?”
nah its not akuma thats b.s that matchup got worse mainly because slk cancel on the tip into tigershot was taken away. This is what myself and mago discussed at the first shadowloo showdown. that And tigershot recovery . even in vanilla akuma was tough but if the sagat knew the matchup and all the vortex options it was either even or slightly akumas favor thats my opinion and some top sagats from japan that i’ve spoken to. Anyways I played toxy again last night and came 2nd nearly put him in losers and i should have to be honest i just didn’t seal the deal i had him on match point 3-4 times

You were still afraid to anti air, even when hes right up in your face and jumps dont forget your close s.mp is also a great anti air
1:57:55 , you had the game. The ex uppercut was the correct and safe choice but you had to try and go for u2 link. Otherwise you should have just straight ultra because you saw you had the distance right to either ex uppercut or ultra 2 trade at the max. Dont be afraid to raw u2 demon flips.
You don’t use much tiger knee in this matchup, why so?
with that ex dp into ultra its harder to hit ultra2 its startup is slower and demon flips imo are far too risky to try ultra he can demon flip palm or be doing a medium kick demon flip to bait me out . ultra-ing demon flips is not a good idea imo yeah u may get damage if u guess right but a good akuma its far too risky to use against.I might have been able to juggle it there but its far too close to whiffing it to go for it.
with stand mp i use it but not on jump hk or mk akumas anti air beats it smp against akuma is only good for anti tatsu when you are both standing or if he empty jumps .
tiger knees in my experience is too dangerous imo against akuma. cmk goes under all day not to mention i’ve been demoned 10 million times lol. also we all know tiger is much harder to space i do it but only from safe strings giving akuma a crouch light punch is far too dangerous because he can confirm into sweep and then its gg. the key to sagat winning is stayin on your feet. at the end of that particular round i dpd but it didn’t come out must have hit the punch button 1 frame late or something. and yea i missed a couple anti airs but its really hard to anti air everything as akuma can stops sagats dp with air fireballs thats one huge reason akuma beats sagat apart from the sweep and vortex. Even bonchan doesnt uppercut akuma all the time akuma can actually jump at sagat due to his options. but i get what your sayin
Heavy’s post is bang on, it’s too hard to consistently upper cut Akuma because you have to be weary of an air-fireball or demon flip that will make you whiff. The Air fireball is dumb because it rarely trades, if it traded consistently then this match up would be MUCH easier. What I try to do though now is try to force a trade a certain distances, I either slow shot to trade with a 60 damage shot, or cr.hk or cr.hp big time in sagat’s favour trade, however it’s situational.
Akuma’s walk speed is what gives me the most problems, it sets up his frame traps and throw baits so well, and the big problem with that is that whether you get hit or thrown you’ll be put in a vortex(win/win). When Akuma has meter you can’t throw out fireballs the way you’d like, and I think that’s really shitty because what is sagat without his fireballs?
The key to the match up is IMHO is blocking the vortex(as best as you can) and keeping Akuma humble by letting some ‘reckless’ uppercuts go, other wise you’d just get shit on at will. I found that when i switched to U1 I started doing much better in this match up because Akuma’s are devastated when they are hit by U1 and they always have to fear it. Give sagat back st.lk cancel and the match up would be near even at top level
either ultra imo is useful against akuma . but ive found much more success with u2 against toxy i use u1 against other akumas. i find it limits some of akumas options or he gets hit with a raw ultra . so i think using either ultra is good depends on the akumas play style and yours. thing is u2 can punish teleports on reaction as well.
i see, i was just wondering if it would be nice if it can mtk could catch start up on akuma’s s.hk or smthin while hes dancin. And maybe the new hitbox catches c.mk now?
Indeed it’s not easy to anti air akuma but u also caught two of his air fireballs with u2, so you can definetly make it happen
So I was just messing around with an Akuma dummy in training mode, and I noticed a few things I didn’t know before. The first is that when Sagat crouches(neutral or any) his hurt box is actually pushed slightly FORWARD compared to when he is just standing still. So when you’re doing the crouch and stand feints you’re actually closer when you crouch and might get hit by Akuma sweeps that you normally wouldn’t have if you were standing. If you guys didn’t know that, keep that in mind!
I also noticed that cr.mp beats the demon flip grab when timed at the last second, it takes some practice but I was able to hit it 100% after some practice, just another option if you don’t think you can pull out your TU in time. About the demon flip off of a block string, do you guys think it’s best to just do st.mp?
I think so, with Fei Long I do the same but with St.hp. Plus it catches the Tatsu.
I agree with you on the reckless uppercuts, and the walk speed. If I really had one wish to make Sagat more enjoyable and competitive (for me) I’d increase his walk speed just a tiny fraction, like maybe T-hawk/Zangief speed. I don’t think it would break him, grapplers are fucked anyway.
It just sucks knowing that Capcom can let akuma away with Vortex/walk speed/teleports/half damage Ultra’s/Option selects/3fDP/Air Fire ball for the cost of low health and Sagat gets shat on because of high health.
I’d take shitty health every day of the week for a better tool. (or in akuma’s case, 15 tools)
