TsukihimeBlood - The main bad part is that I can’t figure out how to turn off the 2 computers, if you even can. So every battle is a 4 player free for all with two computers who seem to work together, even if they’re not on a team. It’s ok otherwise, it’s about what you would expect from something like this. It’s similar to powerstone, but with more character variety.
If there’s a way to turn off the computers and just have a 1v1 fight, then the game would be a decent amount of fun. I dunno, i only paid 2000 yen for it (~19-20 bucks). If you’re a negima!? fan then it might be worth it for the novelty alone, lol. As a 4 player party game tho, i can see it being a lot of fun, similar to powerstone.
I was thinking Prince Leon’s Guitar move in the SNES version of “Brutal: Paws Of Fury”, but then I learned that at least Roxy’s taunt makes her invincible (while renewing life), so now I don’t know.
As far as I know for Timekillers, Mantazz was damn near unbeatable - hover (which made the opponent unable to get rid of your limbs, they would only knock you out of it), eyelasers, giant buzzsaw and the ability to poke with safe attacks that would cut off your arms…
For Bloodstorm, I seem to remember Freon being really good, but I don’t remember why. I actually liked that game, until I found out why other people didn’t. (^.^)
IMHO Odin could be a little higher, and freya could be lower. Also, as for breaking down the top tier, Hermit is WAY better than the other two from my playtime with it. Other than that, agreed on the list, and I think it’s not too big a deal where I place my differences. It actually seemed like an ok game to me, I don’t know why no one liked it.
That was, by far, the best GNT4 topish-tier write up that I have seen, even against stuff over on willvo. I mained Kimi and played Kidoumaru and Shikamaru for giggles. Balance really was GNT’s biggest downfall. I always wanted to see OTKN banned, but that didn’t really “balance” things, just switch people over to the next tier down.
I haven’t imported the EX games yet for the Wii, but I hear a lot of complaints that they aren’t as good, despite being more balanced. Seems like Kisame, Itachi, Tsunade and Gaara are top tier there, with Sasuke, Naruto, Temari and Lee behind them.
The American versions have been seriously disappointing. There is already talk of banning Kabuto in CON2 cause Tomy/8ing tried to balance the game and only made it worse. Kabuto is incredibly safe (boring) and recovers health. There are also invincibility glitches and whatnot screwing it up. Someone needs to really sit down and fix the problems in this series if they want the hardcore players to keep on buying it year-after-year.
Could anyone explain the reasoning behind these tiers? I played this against someone the other day and it was mad fun. I can see Tessa being pretty high, her dragon hand stuffs a lot of things and her dragon super has shitloads of invincibility, among other things.
DA is the only 3D MK game I’ve never played. Actually, it may be the only MK fighter I never played, period. I know I played 1, 2, 3, U3, 4, Gold, Deception, and Armageddon, so that just leaves DA and MKvsDC.
Hunh. I could have sworn that I had subscribed to this thread much earlier because of Buktooth’s initial comment.
Holy shit, Cinder is broken.
This is especially funny considering I never liked him and Glacius, my favorite, canonically kills him anyway.
It’s been forever since I played Pocket Fighter, which makes me sad to say and want to play it right now, and I never really got to play it against anyone more than in a couple of instances. Ergo, this will be done from memory and mostly likely be (somewhat) incorrect since this is for nostalgia purposes:
Damn you inability to be concise
Spoiler
Hsien-Ko is probably top tiers due the fact that she fill the screen up with bullshit, rather literally, between her basic projectiles, which is already decent only gets better as it levels up, her gong waves, which reflect other projectiles, I think even some supers at Lv. 3, and her spike ball summon super, which is probably the best super in the game all around. Let’s talk about that, actually.
The spike ball summon super is rather rediculous. I wouldn’t say it’s broken, but sometimes I wonder if this is why it was given that inane motion in the Darkstalkers series. It’s really good because it does a lot of things that other supers can’t do, simultaneously. It comes from the top of the screen, yet unlike Chun-Li’s shitty (yet hilarious) Bicycle super, it keeps you in juggle state and Hsien-Ko is free to move around, which means she either keep doing another one or going in other really good super, the umbrella. More on this in a bit. The Spike Summon Super also has a really large amount of active frames as the maces can pretty much hit you once until they fully disappear, meaning that you either have to block (in which case she can probably teleport dash near you or behind and/or try to [command] grab you), try to jump (and be forced to block the inevitable projectile[s], which has the perfect angle forcing jumpers to block; that or be airthrown by her and hit by the super anyway) or her out of it before she even fully actives the super, which I think ends up with you trading with her a lot of time due to her large and far out the weight she drops is.
On top of that, she also has another super that’s extremely good as far as the game is considered: her umbrella. While it does relatively mediocre damage, very few supers in the game do spectular damage, so that’s not a big issue. What it does extremely well out is generating gems, especially given that amount of hits isn’t revealed by anything except for Morrigan’s Darkness Illusion, which is harder to hit with since Hsien-Ko’s just sticks out the umbrella which isn’t a part of her and thus doesn’t endanger her. On top of that, if they don’t tech correctly after, it combos into itself.
On top of that, Hsien-Ko probably has the best dash in the game because IIRC, while one of the slower ones, it can go behind people because she disappears when she “dashes”/ghost walks. So you can cross people up rather easily between this and her air-dash, especially with her Spike Summon Super. Otherwise, her specials aren’t crappy, but they aren’t that great either since they don’t have as much range as anything else she has. She still hit them easily if she has meter though due to the aforementioned SSS. Hell, the worst thing about her is third super, which is stupid panda ball thing, but considering the other two supers pretty much cover everything, that’s like comic relief (well, more so than other things in this game).
Felicia…I’m not really sure why she’s all the way up here. From little I remember, I guess it’s because her Litterbox Kick pretty much covers the entire ground in front of her at Lv. 3 and one of her supers hit a lot and her chains are kind of fast and can either end in quick unblockables (Mega Buster) or grab (I forget who). I don’t think she’s this good, especially since I think one of her supers is the absolute worst one in the game–I’m talking about the “Dancer” one–but there’s probably something I’m missing.
Tessa has great specials when powered up and most likely the greatest ranged specials in the entire game, especially for their size and speed. (Stupid geneies.) Her Supers are also decent, though the only one that’s reliable IMO is her “I’ll enjoy this Latte while you enjoy this Laser” super. Other than that, her only real weakness is the lack of range (on her specials) when she doesn’t have gems, but considering her gains lead into her specials and grab, both of which are relatively quick, that’s not really a big weakness.
Akuma finally doesn’t suffer from having his life meter acting like his body is a great big testicle when ever he gets hit IIRC, so that’s always a plus compared to other games. I think he’s up here because he a)a very decent air fireball that I vaguely remembering being better than Ibuki’s when it came to recovery time, especially since he shoots two of them at Lv. 3, b)a fuck ton of special moves that give him options and more options, including his teleport and demon flip, c)very good chains that are generally safe, with one of them ending in a throw that will petrify you if don’t knock him out of it/jump away, which means you can’t tech it like other throws when you get destroyed, thus allow him to try and set-up you as he will and d)a very easy Raging Demon command.
That said, I don’t remember his Raging Demon being stellar damage-wise (especially for the meter), but it’s extremely easy to set up due to the simplified motion of everything. Besides, IIRC, his other supers aren’t really much to write home about. Hell, if it wasn’t for my opinion on Felicia, then I would say that Akuma has the second worst super in game with how much freaking lag his air fireball has–the lag increasing the higher up you and way he rebound away makes it so that you can’t ever really fire it off safely and then use it to your advantage outside of damage. Like Hsien-ko, though, he has enough options that you probably won’t have to use the crappy things.
Ken is probably over Ryu because of the ease with which he can get gems off his supers comparatively (especially his Shinryuken in this game), the range on donkey kick Towards + Special (which knocks out yellow, IIRC, for his Shoryuken, which is easily his best special move), and him generally having quicker strings.
Ryu is the weakest shoto when it comes to “approach” since all he really has is the fireball. He generally does more damage than Ken, which means that you have hit less often, which you probably will be considering Ryu’s chains are kind of…sub-par when it comes to both damage and speed unless you know how to mash on Balrog’s throw like the computer does for 20+ hits. (What the fuck.)
Zangief I actually think should be higher than Ryu, but that’s probably as far as he can got since he has problems with approach. He’s basically like an even more damage version of Ryu who gets less gems (which is perhaps why he’s below Ryu, though Ryu only gets a lot of gems from his Super Hurricane Kick IIRC and Piledriving people gives you crap load of gems even in the special version…though they are spread out over the entire screen) except that unlike Ryu, you can actually use his throws effectively without having the ability to speak binary. His Lariat doesn’t go through any version of Hsien-ko’s projectile IIRC FYI (ipso facto quid pro quo).
Ibuki, ah. Poor Ibuki. Going from Ryu and Zangief to Ibuki, we get to the person who probably does the least damage on hit in the entire game. She has shitty supers, at least when it comes to get gems reliably since the Aerial Shuriken Super is the only one gets a lot–Frog Super and the Samurai Super don’t get shit for gems, though Samurai Super is her saving grace when it comes to damage considering it’s speed and range. IIRC, her aerial kunai special generally takes up less space than Akuma and since she’s better in the air than the ground–she only has one good ground chain IMO–it’s also more predictable. Outside of that, I generally remember that her better moves also tend not to knock down or at least are easily recoverable and that her specials are mediocre.
Sakura…I don’t remember much about other than her flurry kick specials and supers being somewhat decent and other moves, not so much. (Her fireball, while it gets bigger with Red gem Levels, actually decreases in range too.) I think she had decent specials, but relatively few options, comparatively, to really get gems outside of spamming the aforementioned flurry attacks, which get predictable after a while despite having above average priorities and since they end right next to the person Sakura gets thrown away like the trash she is.
Chun-Li…heh, I find it funny realizing they’re right next to each other. I think this is the only game where both of them are in and they are BOTH shitty cause usually one or both them are top tier or at least really decent. Anyway, Chun-Li has shitty unblockables and specials and supers and that’s all that really needs to be said. The only decent reliable thing she has is Kikosho, which has like no range and IIRC only acts like a barrier for the front of her, so you should be able to hit her from behind if she was ever stupid enough to not do it when you were trying to pressure them…
Morrigan…like with Felicia, I can’t remember what she has that would put her down here, but it’s probably something like of all of her non-normals (and probably even some of those) are laggy and/or punishable. I wouldn’t be surprised if the only “good” thing she was Darkness Illusion, which still splits up the gems between you and the enemy most of the time.
Dan…would actually be decent…if he could get more than Red gems outside of knocking them out of people or getting them from treasure chests. Why must the Strongest always be a joke character? :shake:
Like I said, a lot of this is probably incorrect due to me not having played in at least two years and going off memory and not really have anyone to play (though I did play the hell out of it by myself), so I especially commend you if read all of that. (Which, as per usual, was far longer than I had intended it to be.)
Match of The Millennium SVC low(I suck at grading top):
Felicia: hard to get damage output
Yuri: needs to rely on stocks too much
Dan: no damage out put and too slow.
Tessa is alright. Her moves can stuff a lot and she has good range, but she can be stuffed out by a lot and her supers aren’t up to par compare to others. I believe that Chun Li and Morrigan are top tier characters because they can stuff out most of the characters in the game and excellent invincibility frames in their supers. In 2DF, I faced a bunch of people who use Felicia, but I don’t really see her as a good character besides her rolling super. People also use Ken, but I find him pretty terrible compare to other shotos besides Dan. Ken is easily outmatched by Akuma and Ryu (Ryu is a bit better than Akuma). Ibuki has speed, but she is a bit too technical to be on par with other characters. So my tier list would be, not official tier list:
Top Tier:
Morrigan (Good zoning, three great supers, and speed)
Chun Li (One frame / link flash combo, good trading supers, and speed)
Ryu (Good zoning, shinshoryuken super counters a lot, and good normals)
Mid Tier:
Sakura (Shoryureppa super does a load of damage and shoryuken combos)
Akuma (Speed and raging demon setups)
Hsien Ko (OTG combos, throw combos, and dash tricks)
Zangief (Good zoning and one frame throw combos)
Tessa (Good pokes and unblockable super)
Felicia (Rolling super and flash combos)
Low Tier:
Ibuki (Technical and weak)
Ken (Not enough potential)
Dan (Dan is Dan)
AFAIK Hsein-Ko’s spike super only juggles if you don’t get hit by the weight. If the enemy gets hit by the weight, he or she becomes flat and is invulnerable to additional hits of the super.
You can get hit by the weight, just as long as you’re not standing. Grab throw -> Well timed Spike Super leads to OTG combo and potential to land an air throw at the end. The combo can take off about half the life bar. It can be avoided by air recovery, but there is a way to avoid that.
I’d love to see a tier list for Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. It wasn’t a shitty game, but it’s shitty by modern standards, so I guess it works here.
Has anyone played X-Men: Next Dimension enough to make a tier list? I just found this game for like $6 the other day, and I’m surprised to say that it’s pretty good.
So far, the only character that seems particularly powerful is Bishop, but maybe I’m missing something.
Aww, that’s sweet. Thank you. I figured the tier list would look like that, except for Gief being so high. I always thought it was Guile > Dhalsim > everyone else > Chun-Li. Shows how much I know about a game I only played twice.
