Tiers for non-fighting games?

Actually gunfire spread varies from gun to gun- for example, the Lincoln Repeater and the Sniper Rifle variants have no spread if you’re aiming (ie. not shooting from the hip)- I forget if weapons skill improves this, tbh. Probably does?
VATS degrades your weapons significantly faster as well (forget if armor degrades). You get a few extra modifiers from perks and stuff for VATS damage/crit calculations but you still do stupid crit damage with non-VATS headshots.
VATS is also more or less pointless for big guns, and it gets annoying trying to keep some weapons in good repair if you’re just VATS-ing through everything (Plasma Rifles and Sniper Rifles come to mind immediately).

The biggest advantage to VATS is that it pauses everything and it makes you invincible during the hilarious “grrr grimace and shoot in slow motion” sequence. Helpful if you like, fast traveled into a vertibird drop or some deathclaws, or if you want to look awesome and grimace your way through a billion exploding cars.

Tetris:

God Tier: I-Block, L-Block
Other Tier: Everyone else

Nah, man. That list is somewhat off

God Tier : I Block, T Block
*T-block sets up for T-spins, which gives a ton of points (IIRC a T-spin triple line clear gives 6 lines worth of damage and 7 if its back to back - the most possible in the game)
*Clearing 4 lines with a I block does 4 lines of damage, and 5 lines of damage if it’s back to back.
Mid Tier: L and 7 Block
Other tier: Everything else

I think grenades are more useful than that. They do take up a lot of inventory space though.

But more importantly (and I’ve had this argument before with lots of other people), there is no need to be so conservative with 9mm ammo in RE4. Unlike past REs, ammo is handed out almost like candy, especially 9mm bullets. As such, guns that help you conserve ammo by having higher damage/kill-per-shot ratios aren’t so important. Blacktail is the best handgun for having a better firing rate, faster reload speed, and larger clip size than the other handguns. It might take more shots to kill an enemy, but it doesn’t really matter because ammo is everywhere. And with all the things it does better, you can actually kill quicker than the Red9 too, even though it takes more bullets to do it. Not to mention that the Red9 is friggin’ huge, and including stock takes up 11 blocks in your briefcase IIRC.

I agree on pretty much everything here. Incendiary Grenades are the only grenades I’d rank low, since it covers only a small area if I remember correctly. The stun on Flashbangs is great, plus it kills all exposed Plagas. Frag Grenades are awesome as well.

The ammo conservation issue of Red9 vs. Blacktail is moot as you pointed out; Shotgun and Handgun ammo are almost never an issue (Rifle, however, can be). Plus, the Red9 doesn’t really outperform the Blacktail until the final upgrade. Until then, the Blacktail is, at its worst, marginally weaker than the Red9. In my opinion, you’re better off if you just skip the Red9 and instead grab the Blacktail in Chapter 3, saving the cash for upgrading your shotgun and/or rifle of choice. Though, truly, I’d say the only bad handgun is Punisher (which I would rate near the bottom overall).

As for the tier-list, there are some weapon balance issues between versions, as pizzacat pointed out, though. Bolt-Action Rifle, for one. It maxes at 18 power in Gamecube version and a whopping 30 in PS2.

I just cleared Persona 4 for the second time, so I’ll tier the investigation team members

God Tier

  • Protagonist- He can literally do anything he wants AND be the best at it. His only weakness is that its game over if he dies

Top Tier

  • Yosuke- He’s the fastest party member in the game and does really good wind damage if you keep Wind Boost and Wind Amp on him. He can also do good physical damage when he learns Brave Blade at the end of the game. He suffers the most status effects because of his low luck attribute though. He’s useful against late-game bosses because they often have buffs, and he learns Dekaja. Though it seems to have been nerfed, Tentarafoo is still a useful move against normal enemies. His follow-up attack is the crappiest one because all it does is knock-down an enemy.

  • Yukiko- She does retarded damage with her fire magic (especially with the Boost and Amp skills). She also learns Salvation, probably the best healing spell in the game. She has poor physical stats and unfortunately, she and Teddie are the only characters who keep their weaknesses after their persona evolves. Her follow-up does low damage, but dizzying an enemy is a huge help at times. Its a good thing she doesn’t have Mind Charge, because she’s be broken as hell if she had it.

Mid Tier

  • Teddie- He’s easily the best support character in the game because he learns the best single target heal and the 2nd best party heal. He also learns all the party buffs except Masakukaja. His ice damage output is high, but many late game enemies are neutral or resistant against ice. He’s also the only character (besides the Protagonist) able to learn Amrita. His stats are mostly mediocre though and he keeps his weakness even after his persona evolves.

  • Chie- Her ice magic is pathetic, (her best ice spell is Bufula) but she’s the best physical attacker in the game because she has Power Charge and good physical attack moves. The fact that she learns counter attack skills is just an added bonus. The only problem is that as with Shin Megami games in general, magic is more useful than physical attacks due to weaknesses giving extra turns. Her follow-up attack is nice because it auto-kills an enemy.

  • Naoto- She has the most versatile attribute spread in the party and even starts with no weaknesses. Her resistance to Light and Dark magic can come in handy, but isn’t necessary due to the ease of finding Homunculus in this game. With the Mudo and Hama line of spells as well as the boosts for both, she eats normal enemies for breakfast, but is useless against bosses outside of Mind Charge and her Almighty spells. She runs out of SP too fast without the Chakra Ring equipped. Her physical attacks are also good, but she needs healing due to her low HP. She gains fire resistance when her persona evolves, but you only have 1 month to max out her S-Link and you need to max out your Courage and Knowledge just to start the damn thing.

Low Tier

  • Kanji- He’s damn near completely useless. The fact that he learns neither Power Charge or any multi-target physical skills make him a worse physical attacker than Chie. The only thing he’s good for is exploiting electrical weaknesses. His Agility is so low that he misses a lot of the time. He’d be good if he had Chie’s attributes since he learns the -dyne electric spells. He does have the best follow-up because it knocks down and dizzies multiple enemies and does massive damage due to his Strength attribute.

  • Rise- I want Fuuka from Persona 3 back. Rise is not helpful in the least beyond the treasure finder learned through her S-Link and the HP and SP regen. Her ability to tell you an immunity or weakness is crap because she doesn’t add it to your analysis database until you do it yourself and she doesn’t even specify which enemy she’s referring to if there are different enemies in a battle.

Can someone direct me to the post with the Final Fantasy X-2 dressphere tiers?

This is more accurate, I was especially thinking about the T block also. It’s just too beastly, you can set it literally anywhere.

Whenever I played Tetris online, I could never set up T-Spins. :wasted:

Seriously, me too

It takes too much time to think of a setup and I’m already dead by the time I get the setup finished. But I guess the key is to practice.

Damnit someone beat me to the punch… I was going to do Persona 4 too lol (Mine looked almost the exact same, cept I put Naoto at the bottom tier…)

Oh well, guess i’ll do it for a different game: Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit for the PS2(Based on the manga/anime Hajime no Ippo):

God Tier:
*Mamoru Takamura: Of course he is! He’s Takamura! Even on the normally unforgiving hard mode, the game is practically a joke whenever you play as Takamura. Not only does he have unlimited Slow motion, crazy power/speed, and almost never runs out of stamina, but the entire middleweight division(with the exception of Brian Hawk) is a complete joke. Takamura kills stuff dead, plain and simple (Not even the friggin Bear you fight in the woods has a chance against this beast!)

Top Tier:
*Ichiro Miyata: Great speed, very good range, lots of slow motion, and hands down the best special attack (and one of the two that are actually worth using) in the game: The Jolt Counter. In the manga/anime, the Jolt is a counter punch that distributes the ENTIRE weight of the body behind one attack. If it hits, its usually a guaranteed knockout and if it misses, the user will probably wind up in a hospital. In this game, thanks to the slow motion that Miyata has, it deals heaps of damage with little to no risk.

*Masaru Aoki: Aoki is top tier!? Odd I know. Aoki is very similar to Dan from SF fame as a type of joke character for this series, however in this game his power is for real. Above average speed, power, reach, and defense, Aoki is a forced to be reckoned with in this game. His special attacks all pretty much suck, but that’s true for about 95% of everyone else in the game as well, so no use in docking him points for that. His only drawback is that he loses stamina FAST, but that shouldn’t be a problem if you are playing conservatively (and if you are playing hard mode in this game…trust me, you are playing conservatively lol)

Middle Tier:
*Ippo Makunouchi: It’s a shame that someone as likeable as the main character isn’t higher on the list, but that certainly doesn’t make him a bad character. The featherweight Mike Tyson has pretty good power, however his low reach makes it hard to constantly harass opponents with jabs and weave in and out of attacks like the higher tiered characters can. It is also hard to tell if Ippo is low on stamina or not because of his stance (low stamina= potential KO afterall)

*Manabu Itagaki: Miyata with less defense, power, and no jolt. Not amazing, but not terrible

Bottom Tier:
Tatsuya Kimura: Ugh, just plain awful. Meh speed and range, bad power, bad defense, and about 5 seconds of slow motion before it runs out for the rest of the round. Imagine playing a boxing game as a random guy off the street who is only here because he lost a bet to his friends. Yeah, that’s kind of what it’s like playing as Kimura.

^ The bear is weak. Most people in Ippo’s class can take him even. High damage, but can’t take that much damage himself.

Brian Hawk > Takamura. Faster punches, higher damage. Not sure about ability to take a punch tho.

And Ricardo Martinez > both of them, which sort of tells you something.

Ippo > Masaru. Ippo’s weaving is among the best (probably the best) and he can do a body blow loop/semi-infinite (weave forward, left upper, release weave and quickly repeat - should be able to catch the opponent before recovered).

Sendo > Miyata and Ippo. Basically Ippo’s everything (except weaving not as good) + slowmo. Different Smashes gets through lots of guards (except low, which only ever seems to catch Ippo). Insanely powerful for a non-Ricardo featherweight.

EDIT: Kimura IS horrible though.

Taka seems to take punches better than Brian because Taka is in a more traditional stance when compared to Brian’s open stance. Everyone in the open stance seems to take significantly more damage than their normal stance counter parts. That and their jab animations are kind of odd.

Ricardo Martinez > everything in this game lol, I just kind of made my post based on the characters you mainly play as in story mode.

As much as I love Ippo, I really like Aoki more. The weave is pretty good, as well as the semi-infinite, but tbh almost every character in the game can do the said infinite so it’s not as big of a deal. I really dislike not being able to tell if Ippo is low on stamina though. Most characters drop their arms when they are low on stamina, so I know to back off and catch a breather. Ippo doesn’t really do anything, so it can be quite risky to go on the offensive with him in the later rounds (even with his above average guard).

Sendo does indeed > Miyata and Ippo. You don’t really get to play as him that much in story mode, which is a shame, but he is my favorite character in the game. It’s also very satisfying to get KO’s with him, as opposed to that Jolt spamming ninny Miyata.

Of course all of this is IMO, I’m stoked that someone else on this board has actually played the game so I’m all for discussion about it

I know most people can do said semi-infinite eventually (after dishing enough damage), but add to Ippo’s great weaving + fast recovery during weaving + insane body blow damage, he’s really THE guy to use it for, and he can start using it relatively early on in the match (within a minute for the most part) as opposed to others that need to wear people down first.

Try out the PSP version, Victorious Spirits. That semi-infinite is really hard to get down now (which is good) and uppers get a huge boost (as opposed to being blocked by something 90% of the time in the PS2 version). It’s also up to date and lots of characters get varying boosts and nerfs (YAY RICARDO NOT INVINCIBLE).

Also, there’s only one character that has slowmo in the PSP version as far as I can tell, and that’s Itagaki. His one lasts a short while, but he can start it up anytime he wants, as many times as he wants which means it’s even MORE broken than before. However, take anything more powerful than a jab and you might’s well give up there and then.

Phantasy Star 2 Tiers v2 (over a year later lol):

TOP TIER

Rudo-most braindead character in the game. Guns are utter rape. Super high HP and Defense. No magic, but guns are essentially magic weapons since they pierce defenses and cost no TP. Use him. He makes the game much easier.

Rolf-Best magic in the game. Swords suck against high defense enemies, though. Good stats overall. He’s mandatory, so you have to use him. He’s worth using, though.

MID TIER

Anna-Slashers attack groups, but suck against high defense enemies. Bad magic aside from Shift. Awesome item user, though, because she’s fast and has good stats overall.

Kain-Nagaj works on quite a few non-Robot enemies and the Mother Brain, so he’s good. Obviously, he’s good against Robots. Average stats.

Hugh-Good after the Dams. Monster techs can help against some high defense monsters. Average stats.

LOW TIER

Shir-Bad stats aside from speed. Laconian Dagger is bugged and doesn’t work. Doesn’t learn her best techniques until you are at an obscene level and can beat the game with anyone. Stealing is quite good, however, and can give you awesome healing items and a Visiphone.

Amy-In most rpgs, having a healer will help tremendously. Not this one. Sar techniques are far too costly in TP. Deban can be used with the Snow Crown. Items stolen by Shir can effectively replace her (tedious, but worth it). Her attacks are not that good (Acid Shot does pierce defenses, though). She’s super slow. She’s also beyond overrated for some reason.

NEI TIER

Nei-What can I say? You only get her for like 1/3 of the game. She’s alright, though. Nothing special.

I can do the “one year later” thing. Let me try this…

X-Men 2: Clone Wars tier list v2

TOP

Wolverine: Extremely fast. Able to do absurd damage in very little time. His mutant power is just a rushing slash, but it’s a great way to attack enemies while keeping the momentum going. This combined with wallcrawling makes Logan the perfect speedrun character.

Beast: The biggest buff since the last tier list is good ol’ Hank. His mutant power, when used in the air, is a Screw Attack-esque flip that can be canceled into anything, from a physical attack to a stomp to a wall cling. Couple that with the incredible strikes he has, most of which can OHKO enemies and make short work of bosses, and we have a fucking winner.

Cyclops: Another big buff. Optic blasts are ridiculous. They reach their full range instantly and are active on a single-frame basis, making it easy to keep approaching multi-hit enemies trapped in an endless loop until they die. His normals are very good as well, but don’t use his jab outside of combo ending. One thing to note about Cyclops is that his optic blast is very, very useful in team combos. Send in a character like Nightcrawler to perform a combo, then have Cyclops unleash a fully charged optic blast just as the enemy recovers from Nightcrawler’s last hit. If they don’t die from that, they’ll die from the fact that it leaves Nightcrawler open to perform his combo again.

MIDDLE

Nightcrawler: While Kurt is extremely fast and versatile, and his combos are fun as shit(teleport > crossup flying kick > crouch punch for the win), he has to put forth much more effort to do things that are second nature to the likes of Beast and Wolverine.

Magneto: Magneto’s playstyle is unique. He focuses entirely on long-range combat and as a result, he has no combination attacks, and thus no reliable, tried-and-true method of taking down his foes. While Wolverine has power slash > crouch jab > repeat, Beast has TK flip attack > stomp xN, and Cyclops has crossup jump kicks xN > optic blast xN, Magneto is left grasping at straws. However, he is good in co-op for combo extending, as all characters with projectiles are. The bomb and levitation are also means of above-average crowd control…perhaps the game’s best.

LOW

Gambit: Outside of his short hop double card trick, Gambit doesn’t have much going for him due to the simple fact that his best attacks are SLOW AS FUCK. His OP crouching staff jab, falling attack, standing upper attack, and cards all come out very slowly, and as a result, you’re going to be left spamming flying kick more often than not. As good as his flying kick is, it makes Gambit a shitty choice for crowd control. Like Magneto and Cyclops, Gambit’s projectile extends combos well. This is a moot point, however, when you discover that Cyclops is worlds better at this than anyone else.

Psylocke: I can’t call her bad, but that’s just because I’m a fan of hers. Psylocke is a difficult character to use well despite having arguably the best aerial attack in the game. Her vertical sword spin can be used for almost anything, and it makes combos especially fun. Her psionic blade is good for starting combos, but use it in any other situation and you’re screwed. All in all, Psylocke is like Alex in Third Strike. She’d be great…except she got lost and ended up in the wrong game.

Umm… if I recall correctly, you could resurrect Nei.

I kinda want to make tier lists, but I dunno what for. I mean, I could make one for my friend’s little bro (but he’d probably want something kiddy, like a MapleStory tier list or something crazy like that), but I’d rather go for something… eh, odd.

So I’m going to invoke my younger sister and make a Harvest Moon caretaking/gardening tools tier list. She’d probably yell at me (she’s got quite a loud voice for someone her age) if I didn’t go with Back to Nature, so I’ll stick to that.

God Tier
*Hoe: The only tool you will use in every season for your farming career. Without it, you’re losing out on an overwhelming majority of your income (need it to till land and to mine), and it also holds its own when you have to fend off the occasional stray dog or two. Gold upgrade is fine; Mystrile’s kinda overdoing it.

High Tier
*Watering Can: For a farming game… well, you obviously need to water your plants; however, with a ton of Flour, you might not have to in future seasons.
*Brush: It’s vital to keeping your horse beyond after a year and to allow your cows/sheep to produce better milk/wool. Livestock make up a good amount of your percentage, so the Brush becomes a key player.
*Milker: Considering Cows have the overall best profit per capita, the Milker becomes a great tool for income.

Mid Tier
*Sickle: The only tool you can use for cutting grass, which you’re going to do if you want to limit your expenditures on livestock fodder. Easy to gain experience early on by clearing weeds and dead crops due to seasonal changes.
*Axe: It would’ve been high tier if you didn’t have all of your necessary architectual upgrades by the end of Summer 2nd Year (you’d practically have everything except your House’s second extension by the end of the first year). By then you’re probably just stocking up more wood in case a hurricane or blizzard blows away your Hothouse. It’s decent early on when you have a chicken but inadequate feed, but that becomes obsolete by the end of Summer 1st year.
*Fishing Rod: Fishing can be a slightly modest income (less than mining and foraging), but it also nets you a Power Berry, a recipe for French Fries and those valuable Boots and Empty Cans that May loves (why she does, I don’t know).
*Clippers: What the Milker is to Cows, the Clippers are to Sheep. Wool is valuable, but you can only get it once a week.

Low Tier
*Hammer: Unless you need to untill some land (which you could easily alleviate by throwing a rock on tilled soil), the only use the Hammer will have is clearing up Large Rocks and Stones that annoy you. Also, it’s so hard to get experience for this tool by productive means (i.e., farmwork).
*Bell: Apparently it brings your livestock closer to where you’re standing. After testing it out several times, I’ve come to conclude that it’s false advertising.
*Fishing Pole: All you need it for are those damn fish prints. Pfft. Lame.

I can do a crop tier list too, but it’s 4 in the morning.

Agreed. My preferred method for going through the game (this is the GC version I’m talking about) is keep the normal handgun and shotgun until I get to the castle then sell the Handgun and the Punisher (actually would have sold the Punisher right after getting it but whatever) and buy the Blacktail. Then I upgrade the normal shotgun and don’t bother with the Riot Gun. Although the Riot Gun is maybe my favorite gun in the game based on looks alone, I just don’t think its worth buying overall. The Striker comes along a while later and makes it obsolete so you might as well save your money for upgrades. I will also usually buy the semi-auto rifle. It may not be as powerful as the bolt action rifle but I still like it a lot more.

Talking about RE4 like this makes me want to try a run using only weapons you pick up, never buying from the merchant. I guess this would include the Handgun, Shotgun and Broken Butterfly. That doesn’t seem too hard really, I guess I also need to limit it to no upgrades too.

Special Dress Spheres and Mascot > *

Only thing that comes close is Gunner w/ Catnip which gives SOS max damage.
