Tiers for non-fighting games?

I guess I could do my canonical tier list for Smash 64. I don’t know exactly how the characters rank in gameplay(other than Pikachu > Kirby > Ness > Fox > Captain Falcon), but this is my hypothesis on the tiers if the characters were true to their games.

1. Ness
At the end of Earthbound, Ness is a god. From what I’m told, he can destroy giant death robots with the wave of a hand and take a nuke to the face without flinching. There’s no stopping this kid, on the real.

2. Samus
This is why I’m so pissed off that she’s so shitty in the Smash games. At the peak of her power(i.e. at the end of Super Metroid), Samus is basically able to blow up anything(except Ness, I guess) with the fucking broken-ass weapons that she gets. Couple that with the invincible and painfully slow-moving Screw Attack, and…yeah, Samus is borkd.

3. Mario
Superhuman strength, speed, and agility coupled with pyrokinesis and field experience make Mario a Captain America equivalent in this little soiree. No one has his know-how, and because of this, Mario will probably come more prepared for a fight than anyone.

4. Donkey Kong
The single most physically strong character in the game is also one of the quicker fighters, but DK’s big problem that sets him below Mario is that he can’t close in on anyone who can attack from a great distance. Link’s arrows can be swatted down by giant gorilla hands, but what about Mario’s(and Luigi’s) fireballs, or worse, something on the level of PK Starstorm or the Hyper Beam?

5. Link
The Master Sword takes Link from potential bottom tier status to fifth overall. Other than that, his weapons are unremarkable, and his physical prowess is above average, but nowhere near the level of Mario or Donkey Kong(or Samus for that matter).

6. Fox
Very fast and very agile, Fox is also weak, as his strikes are comparable to love taps by the likes of Donkey Kong. While his weapons are good, they aren’t great, as they suffer from the same problem his physical attacks do. Fox would need to find a way to survive for a long time to win a fight against any of the higher-ups, or else he’d be toast.

7. Captain Falcon
Captain Falcon is a wild card. While he is in peak physical condition, just like Link, he does not have a game-breaking trump card on par with the Master Sword, and as good of a pugilist as he is(according to the anime, or so I’m told), he’d probably cross fists with Mario for a good long while before Mario just said “fuck this” and burnt him to a crisp.

8. Luigi
Mario minus most of Mario’s exceptional traits? Yeah…yeah…okay. Couple this with Luigi’s typically timid and cowardly nature, and you have a guy who’s probably afraid to throw a punch at Pikachu, say nothing of Ness.

9. Kirby
He can copy people’s powers, but other than that, he’s slow, easy to hit, and not very resilient. So yeah, if he could close the gap between him and Samus, he’d have…a Charge Beam. That’d pretty much be it. Then Samus could just Screw Attack him once and there you go, toasted pink marshmallow.

10. Pikachu
Definitely better than Jigglypuff, but other than that, the fact that no one ever uses Pikachu(or even Raichu) in high-level Pokemon should tell you something about it.

11. Jigglypuff
The same holds true for Jigglypuff as Pikachu, but to a much greater extent. While she can sing her opponents to sleep, what then? She could punch Donkey Kong in the chest for hours and while it might soothe him as a massage would, it certainly wouldn’t hurt him. Who could Jigglypuff harm? Pikachu? Maybe.

12. Yoshi
Not much to say about him. He’s cute, but in the grand scheme of things, what can he do? He needs to eat opponents to make eggs, and he needs to make eggs to do a number of his best attacks. Without the ability to move quickly enough to get close to keepaway masters like Samus and Fox, nor the footwork to outquick the likes of Donkey Kong or Mario, there’s really nothing Yoshi could do.

What da hell

That tier list is really, really off there, Link is not that high at all, he’s more like near the bottom, or is at the bottom, once he’s thrown off the stage, he’s easily edge guarded, and he has a piss poor comeback as well, his UP+B blows to get back on the stage and screams out “Spike me for free!”. Hookshot throw is garbage, he’s got some decent attacks, however nothing that helps him.

Pikachu is arguably #1 in this game, no way he’s near the bottom, he’s got way too much bs in this game. He can juggle, his aerials are ridiculous, especially his Fair, he’s got excellent throws, excellent tilts, excellent combo potential, an excellent come back when knocked off the stage, an insane F.Smash. He has almost no weaknesses in SSB64.

Anyhow, isn’t smash a fighter anyways, you have 1 vs 1, so I don’t see why not.

I said ‘canonical’ tier list, as in how powerful the characters are according to the stories of their respective games…

Oh, lol, my bad, I didn’t read it fully, I was wondering wtf was going on, but it was just me, my bad

Stop gaying up this thread, please.

Thank you.

The thread was perfectly fine until you showed up.

ya totaly true

Are we counting assists that characters have access to? Cuz if so, Samus and Fox have planet-destroying ordinance in her Gunship and the Great Fox respectively. Assuming that those aren’t included however…

Fox still gets unbeatable sniping in the form of his long-range remote controlled missile launcher, as well as a personal force field capable of deflecting or absorbing small arms fire, explosives, and energy blasts for a few seconds at a time. At the very, very least I’m pretty sure Fox is above Link. Personally I think he would be above Mario and DK too. Fox is effectively Samus-light, with superior mobility but no armor and a few less weapon options.

I also think Luigi is at least on par with Mario, despite his cowardice. When the chips are down, he has really come through. Guy took out Bowser AND King Boo simultaneously at the end of Luigi’s Mansion. He also single-handedly defeated Dimentio, the most powerful villain in Super Paper Mario. Luigi actually prolly has the potential to surpass Mario if he wasn’t so timid. As is, it remains simply a check to keep the brother from surpassing the star of the series.

I’m also not very familiar with Pokemon, but if Jigglypuff’s songs that put people to sleep work on anybody that hears the song, then it would have longer range than depicted in the Smash games and Jiggly should be bumped up a little too.

Assists are out. I didn’t play Luigi’s Mansion, so I didn’t know that Luigi did that, but the problem is that Mario’s handled enemies that are much more dangerous than Bowser. I would consider Wario more of a peril to the safety of the Mushroom Kingdom than Bowser, say nothing of someone like Smithy.

Mega Man ZX Advent Biometal Tiers

TOP TIER

Model ZX- I think most people would agree that once you get this Biometal, the game becomes a hell of a lot easier. The Z-Saber causes a lot of damage to enemies and bosses, and you simply can’t argue with an X-style Charge Shot. Once I get this, it virtually becomes my default Biometal.

Chronoforce- Let’s face it. You’ll be using this virtually all of the time, especially against bosses. Where can’t you find the power to slow down time to a crawl useful? Ordinarily, Chrono’s inability to move outside of water and the fact that he tends to be a big sitting duck would mean he’s crap, but the super power more than makes up for it (plus, his form can actually duck under certain attacks.)

Model A- Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s here simply because it allows you to use the Biometals in the first place, is the most mobile, and you don’t get cut off from using it by talking to someone else or triggering a cutscene. On the upside, unlike ZX, you can target enemies you can’t hit just like that, such as those behind a wall or hiding behind armor.

TOP-MIDDLE TIER

Aeolus - Aeolus is practically a fiend in mid-air, and makes a lot of hostile areas more navigable by virtue of his air-dashes and hover. He’d have placed higher on my list, but I don’t like his slash attacks. Too slow and tedious to use on the fly.

Argoyle & Ugoyle - You have absolutely no idea on the shit you can get away with using this Biometal. Once Ugoyle is ahead of you, you can wreak havoc on everybody in your path. Just dash forward, pelting Rock Bombs and kicking them non-stop, and most enemies won’t even stand a chance. Plus, it also comes with the benefits of smashing barriers (which instantly trumps the fire biometals Buckfire and Atlas, which need to charge first) and even going right through them.) Can’t climb walls, which sucks. but the sole reason why this isn’t higher up.

Siarnaq - CHIP CHIP CHIP CHIP CHIP CHIP CHIP CHIP CHIP. Just pelt kunais all over the place, and most folks won’t even get a word in edgewise. you get a satisfying feel of doing so, as his rate of fire’s pretty high. Not as useful as the top tiers, but fun.

MIDDLE TIER

Atlas - Atlas is pretty handy in quite a few areas, simply because of her ability to fire straight up. she simply pwns enemies that are right above her in a few seconds flat (and I’m talking about the bosses here.) And she can smash barriers, too.

Thetis - He’s only here because he’s a whole lot faster on his feet than all of the characters lower down in this tier list. Halberd’s pretty quick, though.

Buckfire- He starts off pretty useful, seeing as how he totally pwns Chronoforce’s stage and is capable of navigating high areas from the get-go, but his usefulness becomes limited once you get Queenbee and Aeolus. His arrows tend to get easily blocked, too, but he can hold his own for a while.

LOW TIER

Queenbee - Let’s face it. Had it not been for her ability to fly, she’d be bottom tier. And I’m even hesitant to place her this high, also, because everything else save for her ability to fly sucks. If flying wasn’t absolutely necessary in this game to bypass certain things and even find some hidden goodies, I’d have dumped her ass and not looked back ever again. Ever tried getting a medal which required you to kill an enemy using Queenbee alone? It’s damn frustrating, given the odd angle and weakness of her shots.

Hedgeshock - Useful for navigating small crevices, and that’s it. Firepower and specials royally BLOW here.

BOTTOM TIER

Biofrost - He’s retardedly slow, will get hit a lot (and even interrupted when he’s trying to attack) and overall a horrible Biometal to use.

Rospark Oh GOD. His bulb form irritates the CRAP out of me. It’s so damn slow and unwieldy. And his vines have a tendency to pass right through some enemies. Why the hell are you using him anymore (once you get the rest of the Biometals?)

Vulturon - I thought this would be my favorite Biometal, but it turns out that Vulturon is one of the worst. His guitar attack does diddly squat, his wall cling hardly ever comes in useful, and his charge attack is a…swing from his guitar that barely does damage to bosses? What the HELL?

Model a - Merely here for the lulz. And you know it.

I’ve absolutely no disagreement with that list at all. All I’d like to add is that Model PX / Siarnaq was greatly improved from ZX1 simply because of the slight upward angle added to kunai tossing; PX was worse than even LX when dealing with foes who were in the air. And short-hop Halberd slashes are what saved LX from being complete crap in ZX1, and they’re just as good now.

And Vulturon = Specineff. Seriously.

The Ninja Warriors (Again) - SNES

  1. Kamaitachi - crawl (fastest speed in the game) and bust some kneecaps (for the entire game, until the last boss). he’s basically the best character for 99% of the game until the last boss, which is the only time he needs to do anything but crawl and punch people in the leg

  2. Ninja - ridiculously good, just needs more effort and skill than kamaitachi. his throws are awesome (giant swing clears crowds like no other (i love knocking down bystanders TWICE with one giant swing) and atomic drop is the strongest throw in the game (actually, kunoichi can do as much damage from her gut punch throw if you hold the button, but it takes longer). awesome combo ender that only needs tw punches to bring it out - it also hits enemies behind you, invulnerable during animation, great damage. and the shoulder tackle rapes enemies with projectiles because you duck, perfect for getting free throws (also rapes bosses). his aerial attacks rock- his downward spiral is great… his 3x-hitting stomp is damaging ass fuck… He has no weaknesses. speed is NOT a weakness when he has the shoulder tackle and the rush kick (both of which rape for free)

  3. Kunoichi - sigh… she’s really lacking. in damage. shitastic reach. she’s not even the fastest character. her combo ender takes four hits to come out - and does NOT hit behind her like ninja, or have ridiculous reach and safety from high hits like kamaitachi. even her jump attacks are bleh compared to the ninja. also , her enemy-hop jump kick is pretty pointless. she’s the weakest character in every sense.

(small update) - did some testing… trying to find something GOOD about kunoichi… kunoichi’s down+attack throw (hold button) has no invincibility frames, and the last hit is the one that does most of the damage (mostly worthless against more than one enemy after the first 1-2 stages). OTOH ninja’s atomic drop has FULL invincibility and then some (let’s you get off atomic drop after another when you’re crowded (think haggar’s punch, punch, throw (done over and over for about 30 seconds straight) against mobs in ff1 arcade w/ it’s crazy invinc frames)… in conclusion, kunoichi is pretty much garbage WHEN COMPARED to the other two … she’s probably the only balanced character though, the other two are just ridiculously good

Golden axe III - Not sure if i did this a couple years ago, but wtf i’ll do it again (been replaying this game recently)

GOD) Panther (Cronos) - should be blatantly obvious to anyone who has played this game. his flip kick rapes enemy AI (well… all BC moves do, but cronos has the best one). but the #1 reason why he’s the best is because of his unblockable attack. this move is CHEAPER than SoR2’s grand upper. rapes bosses in the ass like no other move. also, it’s lovely for taking down crowds… herd crowds on the same horizontal plane, do this move taking down 2-3 enemies -> run back to the other side, do the move again as they get up, repeat. PERFECT for multi-boss fights (doesn’t give them a chance to do anything). simply rapes the last boss without taking a scratch (except for uninterruptable spells). cronos jumps over that lame ass ground fireball and smacks death adder in the face, run back, and repeat till he dies. seriously, one of the chepaest beat’em up characters ever (or rather the cheapest MOVE ever)

  1. sarah vane (tyris lookalike) - she’s actually a shitty character, but has ONE really good move: forward+BC. strangely enough, it’s the only forward+BC in the game that has invincibility frames. maybe sega reallized during playtesting that “holy shit, this character sucks” and buffed up this move making it really f-ing good to “balance” her. it’s fast as fuck with little recovery. (and forward+BC moves are the strongest in the game - all characters do equivalent damage btw (except for 1-2 things such as holding hits)). otoh, it’s not unblockable, it doesn’t rape crowds, it’s shitty against the last boss, and it doesn’t cover the entire screen (all of which apply to a certain move i mentioned earlier). and you’ll occasionally throw out her shitty projectile move by accident. still it’s the second-most broke move in the game

3 - tied) ax battler lookalike - great reach. very balanced. his jump attack (df+B) is very nice. if sarah didn’t have the spinning kick, this guy would shit all over her

proud - he hgas the highest grapple damage. his gut punches do more damage than the rest. and his air slam is very damaging. but his air slam gives no splash-damage whatsoever, has no invincibility frames, and it doesn’t even knock other fools down. his reach is crap, he’s fuggin slow… His BC is better than Sarah’s at least (and you willrely on it a lot in the later levels). So he’s garbage, right? not quite, he has one redeeming factor. his projectile attack is the most damaging move in the game. If all three tornados hit that is. this gives him the highest damage output against single enemies… either hit with tornados or grab, liverpunch, liverpunch, airslam - but honestly, no character in this game has any problems taking down SINGLE enemies… if only his airslam had crowd-clearing capabilities, this guy would be a great character…

twisted metal 1 2 and 3 tiers?

i think in 2, sweet tooth was one of the best and mr grim and the bulldozer bottom

3 - warthog was broken good and thumper was awesome too. minion was god tier and boss so he doesnt count.

I’m suprised no one has done this yet, but here are some Disgaea 3 Weapon Tiers

Top Tier
Sword - Even though Slayer’s Descent has been nerfed into a Cone Shape AoE from Disgaea 1 and 2’s 3x3 Winged Slayer, it still does damn good crowd control. Mach+ Slice (range of 5 panels) is also very good for clearing out lines. Sword also has DarkXSlash, an S-ranked damage move.

Fist - Buffed from previous games due to Big Bang being the only weapon skill that hits in a 3x3 AoE, which is perfect for grinding in 7-3 and HoO4. Also has Rising Dragon, an S-ranked damage move.

Mid Tier
Spear - Decent moves, but lacks multi target moves at close range (aside from that one that does 8 panels around you, which is too hard to set up for grinding). Best skill is only A-ranked damage.

Bow - Range is always a good thing, but lacks strong multi target moves. However, it Dopple Ganger, which has S-rank damage.

Lower-Mid Tier
Gun - Strongest skill is A-Damage, and has decent AoE on some moves, but can only target units that are perpendicular to you.

Axe - No multi-targetting moves, but makes up for it in power. Has two S-ranked damage skills (I don’t see a need for two of them). Also, unleveled axes lower your speed.

Low Tier
Staff - Yes, I am aware that staffs raise magic range by 1 and raise INT, but this is a weapons tier list. Staff is useless in physical fights because they have no weapon skills and barely raise attack.

I based the tier list on damage potential, skill usefulness and practically of use. I may be wrong about putting Gun on lower-mid tier, but overall I think the list is accurate.

Here are tiers for the governments in Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution

Top Tier

  • Communism- This gov’t is OP. The boosted production helps with any victory type by quicker production of wonders, units, rocket parts, and buildings. Once you learn Communism, then change to it and only look back in a dire emergency. The temples and cathedral negation isn’t a real weakness because your people will be happy if you build life support type buildings (granaries etc.) and stay one of the more powerful civs

    • Great for any victory type, though Democracy is better for quick economic and cultural wins. This gov’t takes a bit longer for cultural victories due to negating temples and similar buildings
  • Democracy- A decent alternative to Communism for any victory except domination due to not being able to declare war. The extra money can be used to quickly complete buildings and fight defensively by buying units in a pinch. AI civs tend to offer tech and money as a peace offering if they consistently fail to take a city, so attrition is easiest with this gov’t

    • Worst gov’t for domination, good for culture and great for tech and economic victories

Mid Tier

  • Fundamentalism- Almost as good as Communism for domination, but this is gov’t is only useful if you’re in a war with someone that has better tech. The negation of research buildings is major hindrance in the long run, so this gov’t is crippled for non-domination games and is only useful for taking major cities

    • Excellent for domination if you have a technological lead military-wise, utter garbage for other victory types and as a long-term gov’t
  • Monarchy- This isn’t a bad gov’t, but not especially useful. This gov’t is only useful to reduce the risk of revolts if your civ is going through hard times. All in all, this gov’t is the shining example of mediocrity in this game.

    • Average for every victory type, even for cultural since the culture boost doesn’t help as much as the ability to speed up production or buy buildings and wonders through Communism and Democracy respectively

Low Tier

  • Republic- Only useful in the early game to help build cities to start your civilization. Doesn’t help with any victory type in the long run. Really weak in domination and cultural victories because its far easier to conquer cities that have lots of crap in it than to build up a city

    • Not especially useful in long term for any victory, weak in domination and cultural games
  • Despotism- Nukes are only useful if you’re losing a war badly, which shouldn’t happen if you keep your technology advanced through Communism and the research facilities (universities and stuff)

    • Utterly useless

I’d like to see some Metal Slug 7 character tiers.

– top tier –
Me

– mid tier —
everyone else

– low tier –
My little sister

Not sure if Gradius 3 has been listed but…

God tier-

E-Laser -seriously it’s too good

Top tier

Hawk wind
Ripple
Barrier shield
F Option
Spread missle

Mid tier

Twin lazer
lazer
S. Option

 bottom tier

  r. option
  any double shot

E. Laser is way too good. It nearly breaks the game. This is based on the SNES version, because in the Arcade version the weapons are more balanced. Also, I don't believe E-Laser is in the arcade version, could be unlockable, but the arcade version is way hard to beat. Look at some TAS videos where they try to 100% kill, and see how retarded it is. It's almost cheating to equipt E-laser, seriously.

I figured that Fio was the best character in the game.
