Tiers for non-fighting games?

You can Grand Upper infinite the wrestler on Stage 8, also the boss you fought in stage 1 on the second deck by corner-trapping them (Stage 5) - I think Blaze can infinite Chi jump both as well.

Skate has the lowest combo output in the game, so the focus is definitely on dash rapping and grapples because they take more damage. The ability to throw each way helps when you’re crowded also, despite its damage. Skate has a real good grapple finisher with his back + B too.

Max can use the standing head crush to just rape everything. His damage ratio output is the highest in SoR history, he kinda breaks the game to a fault because you gain small invincibility frames every time you get knocked down. Long enough to re-grapple and smash if you’re fast enough.

In the end, I still think Axel/Max makes it too easy, but repetitive. Blaze/Skate are definitely more fun to toy around with, but not on serious modes.

Metroid Prime: Hunters
Everyone in this game is broken, but I think I made an accurate ranking of the seven playable characters.

  1. Sylux
  2. Samus Aran
  3. Trace
  4. Noxus
  5. Weavel
  6. Spire
  7. Kanden

A lot of the tiering for the characters is going to be based a lot on the stage.
If Sylux can set up his bombs in a very often used place, then they’re going to have to find another way around.

Morphball is highly spam-able.

Trace sniping on certain stages can be hard to get around, other than camping where he can’t get you, then his alt is fast and does good damage.

Noxus is my personal fav, I really love his shadow freeze.

Weavel glitches up most of the stages, then his alt can be used as a get away against Noxus freeze, but it gets raped by Sylux.

Spire is immune to lava, so that is a big plus, and his ability to climb walls gets him to sniping spots that is harder for everyone else.

Kanden, is meh, I use to play him, but I can’t really remember what was really good about him anymore.

Well, then again I haven’t played this in a year, so what I remember could be off by a long ways.

All of those things are true, dude.
I was just ranking them overall. I can’t think of a stage that works against Sylux, and for the most part, the stages in Hunters cater more to personal taste than character choice. My favorite stage is Harvester, with Weapons Complex hot on its heels. I like using Samus’s Seeker Missiles in the air. Beats the dick out of inviso-camping Traces.
What made Kanden broken is a combination of the HUGE blast radius when he gets the Volt Driver, the speed of his alt, and the homing properties of his bombs. Although as far as alts go, nothing will ever top Samus’s Aether Bomb trick in my book.

Every time I played, I always thought that Trace and Sylux where a huge pain in the ass.
I always found it hard to try to stop his alt spamming
And the only real way I could deal with sniping is trying to sneak behind them and freeze them, but that only worked in 4-player matches. xD

Well, it depends on who you play as, but most of the time if you roll into alt form and use the attack as Trace is lunging at you, he’ll back off with the quickness. I know I’ve killed hella Traces before with the Aether Bomb.

I think it’s time for more RPG tiers.

Sailor Moon: Another Story. It’s been a long while since I’ve played through it, but from memory…

S+!: Pluto
S: Mercury, Moon
A: Jupiter, Mars
B: Venus, Uranus
C: Neptune, Saturn, Chibi-Moon.

Best party is Moon, Pluto, and three of the heavy hitters (Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus).

Best non-Pluto party is the Inner Senshi party: Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus. High offense with a lot of support.

Pluto’s at the top because of Time Stop. It freezes all enemies for three turns, guaranteed, and it works on bosses. You then proceed to unload your strongest attacks without fear of retaliation, recasting Time Stop every three turns. Utterly broken.

If you don’t take Pluto because you think she’s uber-broken (and she is), then you want to take Mercury instead. Shabon Spray reduces an enemy’s attack strength drastically and even works against bosses. Extremely useful, since you can take advantage of it by putting characters in an offensive formation without worrying about them dying in one hit – Formation greatly affects damage dealt and received, and through that, you can trade in the “extra defense” of Shabon Spray for higher attack.

Moon is required to be in the party for most of the game, but she’s a character you want to take because of how many good combination techs require her. Her stand-alone offense is weak, but there’s all sorts of good support options she gets depending on who she’s teamed with.

Jupiter and Mars are rather tied in my opinion; They’re both among the four heavy hitters in the game and they get some good support attacks. You tend to want them both in your party. Jupiter + Mars + Uranus gives the strongest combination attack in the game, Jupiter + Moon gives party-wide healing, and Mars has an awesome triple-tech with Mercury and Moon: Stardust Stream Hit (which also gives Mercury and Moon some offensive capabilities, too).

Venus and Uranus are the other two heavy hitters, but it seems best to take only one or the other. Venus has Healing Shower going for her, a dual-tech with Moon that raises the parties’ offense. Uranus, as mentioned, combined with Mars and Jupiter, has the strongest triple tech in the game. However, Venus lacks defense AND HP (the other hard-hitters have high HP, if low defense) which forces her into a more defensive position (can’t put her in front formation like the others, thus reducing her offensive potential), and Uranus doesn’t have any note-worthy combinations except for damage dealing.

The other three senshi have nothing really going for them. Neptune has defense but no good combinations of note. Saturn has terrible offense, but does have a revive combination with Moon + Venus. Chibi-moon has a few decent combinations, but her offense AND defense are horrid; the only reason to use her is when you’re unable to use Moon.

Brace yourselves…another Kirby tier!

Kirby’s Dream Land 3
buddies

Top: Pitch, Coo
High: Nago, Kine
Mid: ChuChu
Low: Rick

Pitch : Probably the best set of abilities in the game. Range means everything in this game and most of his attacks are absurd in that department. His flight control is fairly poor but that’s the only real sore spot.

Coo: Free flight control is what makes Coo so good. His attacks are decent enough and work well for the most part while flying around like a maniac. Cumbersome in some areas but useful in most.

Nago: Triple jump and being able to jump on foes to kill them = pretty cool. Decent set of abilities but some of them are iffy.

Kine: Swimming control is great and ground control is decent. Can jump on enemies. Has some really great abilities but lack of multiple jumps hurts him a bit.

ChuChu: Limited flight kinda sucks since Kirby has better flight on his own. Ceiling sticking is cool and all but her abilities are decent at best. Free flight with Broom is cool but I might as well use Coo if I’m going to do that.

Rick: Can jump on foes, wall jump and doesn’t slip on ice. cool, right? Too bad he has no multiple jumps, mediocre attacks (except for maybe two) and is tough to control during tough jumping sequences. Also has almost no range on his basic inhale.

It’d be pretty cool if someone could get a Guardian Heroes tier list going on in here. I only played the GBA version and decided to get rid of it because I wasn’t a fan of the whole “BEAT THE GAME OVER AND OVER TO UNLOCK EVERY FUCKING FIGHTER” bit.

I think a Guardian Heroes (Saturn) list had already been posted earlier. If not here, then maybe on the Beat-em up thread.

Anyways (Saturn version of course), off the top of my head, of the five main characters, Nicole is obviously top. B+C is invincible from startup to end and refills plenty of MP. Healing means she wins against any and all undead enemies (That’s Undead Hero, Zombie, Skeleton, Undead general, Royal Magician, Roper, Super Zur, Zenobia, and the Great Earth Spirit). Barrier is stupidly good, and can and will pin enemies to death in the corner. Most of her other moves are crap, but she doesn’t need anything else, really.

Middle of the group is a toss-up between Ginjirou, Randy, and Nicole. I’m thinking Ginjirou stands out here due to dive kicks, f+B shiruken spam, and Thunder Palm (which is really freakin’ powerful for its MP cost). Serena’s nearly as good as Ginjirou when fighting, with a ton of good attacks and a fast back-counter, and Blizzard is rather powerful. Low defense against thunder and fire, though, and she can’t crouch under attacks. Randy’s got lots of magic, and decent regular attacks, but takes physical damage like a baby (he resists fire, ice, and lightning, though).

Han’s at the bottom due to slow speed and practically no magic. He’s also the hardest to level up in the main game compared to everyone else because it’s a lot harder for him to get experience from magic casting. He’s still not bad, though.

^ Yeah, would drive me crazy using Randy. I love his style, combos into air juggles and neat magic too, but one hit from a Knight’s axe can kill him before he’s levelled up. I’ve got a mate I occasionally play this game with, and we usually go for Han/Nicole team. Healing is too good, especially as there are no mid-level health-ups in this game.

WWF Wrestlefest Tag Team Tiers:

Tiers vary slightly based on Royal Rumble and Tag Team modes. Mr. Perfect and DiBiase are low in Royal Rumble mode because they can’t bodyslam anyone over the rope.

GOD:
–Ultimate WAR-YAHH
Warrior is obviously the best character in the game. Top-tier speed AND strength. Has the best Grappling slam in the game (Gorilla Press) because you recover from it before your opponent does. Also has the best running attack in the game (Diving Clothesline).

TOP:
–Earthquake
Bearhug is easily the best submission in the game. Resistant somewhat to running attacks (sometimes he’ll gutcheck them if their attack is too late). Powerslam is a great grapple and sets up perfectly for his finisher. His finisher is the only thing not awesome about him…he wastes too much time executing it.

–Hulk Hogan
Hogan lacks a good submission and his grapples aren’t quite as good as Warrior’s, but he doesn’t really need 'em. Legdrop is probably the best finisher in the game because unlike Warrior Splash and Earthquake Splash he doesn’t automatically pin so you can sometimes link 2 in a row.

MID:
–Sgt. Slaughter
Nothing too bad. His Atomic Noogie finisher, while incredibly stupid-looking, is a very good submission

–Big Boss Man
Like Sarge, but without a good submission. His finisher is interesting and unique in its set-up…it’s at least better than another generic grappling finisher. Big Splash is risky if you miss but a good move if you can connect.

–Ted DiBiase
Other than his lack of a Bodyslam, he’s pretty good but not as powerful. Million $ Dream is a good submission

–Crush
Noticeably stronger than Smash. Has a decent finisher but what I don’t like about him is that his running attack is a dropkick, which has a tendency to hit the ropes and leave lying you on the mat.

LOW:
–Mr Perfect
Fastest character in the game, but his grapples suck and he has the same problem with his dropkick as Crush. Because of his speed, he’s great at defending against tag partner interference but Perfect-Plex will sometimes come out too early for the pin, drawing in interference when you don’t want it.

–Jake the Snake
Sorry, but while the DDT is still cool, he’s just not that good. Not very fast or strong. Probably the best thing about him is his running attack–the High Knee–is probably the hardest running attack to counter.

–Smash
Most generic character in the game. Not outstanding in the speed or strength categories, no good submissions and his finisher sucks

Whoa you actually took the time to put the klobb in each of those lists?

Close combat, combat knife is really close to crossbow if not better because of the post-death hit glitch. ESPECIALLY if you are playing 2v2. For those not familiar, the throwing knife caused poison which made you really dizzy (screen got blurry) and took almost all of your health. If you hit a dead body with a poison knife, they would respawn with the poison effect on them, giving you plenty of time to hunt them down and kill them again. Timing was a little tricky in 1v1, not a lot of time to hit with the second knife, but 2v2 that shit was unstoppable.

More RPG tiers, for Legend of Dragoon and Shining the Holy Ark.

Legend of Dragoon. Somewhat difficult to tier since most characters do not stay consistantly strong; their abilities rise and fall throughout the game. The only sure thing is that Kongol sucks.

S: Haschel, Meru
A: Albert, Rose
B: Dart, Miranda
C: Broken PS controller
D: My comma splicing
F: Kongol

HASCHEL - He kicks ass, to put it plainly. He’s got the best damage output in the game due to high strength, speed, and excellent additions. He doesn’t have anything going for him in Dragoon form, but it doesn’t matter. Since he’s Thunder-aligned, he has no elemental weakness, something that cannot be said for the rest of the cast.

MERU - She quickly becomes awesome once you get to Disc 3. She is uber-fast, has very high magic defense (which tends to make up for her low HP most of the time), and has a wonderful Dragoon spell set in the game; Freezing Ring is the best low-budget spell attack in the game, and Rainbow Breath is a wonderful healing spell. She’s also a good item tosser, too, if you need to hit non-water magic weaknesses. Near the end of the game, her final addition, Perky Step, allows her to do decent damage out of dragoon form. Her only real problem is that she tends to NEED a Dragon Helm for bosses that use physical attacks.

ALBERT - He learns his additions very quickly; His last learned one is Gust of Wind Dance at level 11, which means it’s entirely possible to get his final, Blossom Storm, before Disc 2. His damage will get outclassed towards the end of the game, but he’s also got a good Dragoon magic set; Rose Storm is three turns of damage resistance and Gaspless is a surprisingly strong magic attack, despite Albert’s poor magic rating. His main weaknesses are his slow speed and his very weak Magic Defense, at least early on.

ROSE - She’s godly early on, but tapers off mid-game. She learns additions quickly, with her final Demon’s Dance being tied with Haschel’s final for the second highest-damage modifier (Perky Step has the highest, though Meru’s attack sucks). Astral Drain is powerful and useful early on, but it’s her only good spell. Her biggest problem, besides her low HP, is that she has to fight over the end-game spot with Meru and Miranda, who are both better characters than her at that point (you only want one female in your party due to their low HP and having only one set of Dancer equipment). Still, her overall offense is probably second in the game, which is good enough reason to use her.

DART - His problem is offense. He’s very durable, with only Water attacks being a threat to his survival, but his damage output is rather weak: His additions are average in power, his speed is slightly below average, and his strongest weapon, the Soul Eater, requires a Therapy Ring in order to avoid losing HP in battle. His dragoon spells are pretty straight-forward, though they’re not bad at all.

MIRANDA - She takes some work before she gets good, and that’s mainly because she has no additions. She gains SP slowly because of that (until she hits her higher Dragoon levels) and has no offense (not even a budget spell like Freezing Ring) without items. She IS strong end-game, though, possibly a bit better than Meru; she’s a great healer and item-tosser, and she’s not as frail as Meru. However, it takes too much work to get her to that point whereas Meru gets good shortly past the first half of the game.

KONGOL - Pretty much complete crap. Crappy speed, crappy additions, crappy spells, crappy magic defense. The worst part about him is that his strengths are directly countered by his weaknesses – His tremendous HP means nothing when he’s taking massive damage from spell attacks, and his high attack rating is meaningless with the worst additions in the game and the slowest speed by far – which basically means he has no advantages. At all.

Shining the Holy Ark. Much like Legend of Dragoon, characters tend to rise and fall in usefulness throughout the game. For grins and giggles, here’s my first tier list that I made years ago:

  1. Arthur
  2. Melody
  3. Rodi
  4. Akane
  5. Lisa
  6. Basso
  7. Forte
  8. Doyle

…And here’s what my tier list looks like now:

S: Melody, Rodi
A: Arthur, Lisa
B: Akane, Doyle
C: Basso
D: Forte

Main thing is that while Forte is the worst, he’s not absolute crap like Kongol in LoD; he’s simply outclassed.

MELODY - She’s got several things going for her. She’s with you from start to end, she is a competent offensive caster (most importantly, she has the attack spells when you need them; more on that later), and she has THREE spells that are either unique to her or she gets way faster than other characters: Support, Raise, Restore. These basically guarantee her a spot in every boss battle. She also learns Aura for the late game. Her only weakness is that she’s the worst character for regular battles once you reach the Tower of Illusion.

RODI - He’s like Melody in that he’s with you for the entire game and packs a strong supply of attack magic when you need it. He’s also got loads of status magic (Sleep and Slow mainly) which is not only useful towards the latter half of the game, but they’re absolutely necessary if you plan to take on Hattoris before they run away (Hattoris give the best experience in the game). Negate and Attack round out his spell-list for the end game, making him useful for the entire game. His physical prowess is average, dropping somewhat at East Shrine, but it’s possible to get a lucky Kusanagi drop from Turtle Dragons in Desire Mine, which erase this weakness (and give him a 50% chance of instant-kill, too).

ARTHUR - The game’s main character doesn’t really shine until about half-way through the game. He’s got the most varied spell list in the game, though he doesn’t have quite as much MP as you’d like. He has lots of HP and attack, though, and he scores power attacks often. His weakness is that he can’t be switched out in battle, which means he’s deadweight if he’s, well, dead.

LISA - Miss Preggerz is the last to join you, but she’s guaranteed a permanent spot once you reach the Tower of Illusion (reason: Force Blade). She’s got loads of support magic, and I do mean loads: Heal, Antidote, Aura, Support, Shield, Barrier. Support spells rule late in the game, and with the Force Blade, she deals tremendous damage. Very good.

AKANE - Starts out underleveled but she does learn Aura and Barrier before anyone else. The former makes her almost mandatory for two boss fights (one of these, the Evil Spirit/Rilix battle, is the hardest fight in the game). She learns Soul Steal and can use the Kusanagi, which gives some reason to use her for regular battles. However, most other characters can handle regular enemies more consistantly than she can, and once Lisa and Melody get Aura, there’s really no need to use her.

DOYLE - Honestly, I used to think he was absolute crap. All of his stats besides HP and Attack were either low or crap (especially Magic Defense and Breath Defense). His stats ARE crappy, true, but there is one very good reason to use him: Mithril Claw. This is his best weapon, and he can get it right after you get him to join you. His damage with it is phenominal, tearing up the squid arms in West Shrine and ripping through the enemies in East Shrine. He kind of loses his shine once Lisa and Basso get their best weapons, but his damage output is still among the best in the game even in the end. He also is the only character who doesn’t joined underleveled.

BASSO - He joins you earlier than all the other characters (save the main three) but he feels like deadweight for most of the game. He’s slow, he has no magic, he starts a few levels less than the rest of your party (Level 10 vs. level 14 or so), and his attack isn’t all that great. He’s also the first character who doesn’t auto-revive if dead at the end of a battle (Melody doesn’t get Raise until later, so you have to watch his HP carefully). Once he gets the Dragon Axe, however, he has the highest damage output in the game, making him useful for going through the last two dungeons. His HP, Defense, and Breath Defense are all very high, too. It’s just too bad that his usefulness is rather limited until near the end.

FORTE - Pretty much almost completely outclassed. He has a ton of attack magic, yes, and his Blaze 4 and Spark 4 spells have special “summon” criticals that do higher damage than Rodi’s Blaze and Spark spells. However, he’s probably the most underleveled character in the game and he joins right as attack magic reaches its peak. He does get Soul Steal, Attack, and Sleep, which means he does have some use, but Akane gets Soul Steal sooner and Rodi learns Sleep way, way earlier and has a better non-spell offense. Besides, once one of the ninjas gets the Kusanagi, Forte becomes permanently sidelined.

-Edit-
One thing I forgot to mention is why attack magic sucks late in the game. Up until (and including) the West Shrine, you usually face large groups of low HP monsters which can be wiped out with a turn of Elemental/Brutal Fire/Spark casting. Once you hit East Shrine, you start facing smaller groups of high endurance monsters. All attack spells (save for Blaze/Blast/Freeze Level 1, which suck) hit all enemies for a roughly set amount of damage; there’s no focused high-damage attack spell in the game and there’s no elemental weakness or magic booster to improve your spell damage. Thus, physical attacks become the focus on the last third of the game, especially when taking into account characters’ final weapons – These weapons unleash a super-strong critical attack roughly 50% of the time. Plus, three characters can raise allies’ attack strength, giving even more incentive to physical attacks.

Doesn’t Dart shoot up the tier list at the end of the game thanks to raw damage output, since he becomes the Divine Dragoon?

I think Dart can make S tier since he has no glaring weaknesses and good stats.

Divine Dragoon’s only for the final battle, though.

Dart’s damage output is fairly poor. He has good stats on defense, but not on offense. I could see him perhaps switching positions with Rose, but there’s no way he can touch Haschel and Meru.

Hmmm. Well another thing is since he is the main character his levels will usually be the highest.

And yeah end game he is probably S tier but for RPG’s you have to look at the entire game.

The problem with Dart is that in Legend of Dragoon, the speed attribute is paramount to the point of ridiculousness. Dart is actually one of the slower characters in the game and suffers a lot for it throughout the game because it’ll take longest for him to max out his Additions. Dart has the most Additions in the game and if you have either Meru or Haschel in your party (why wouldn’t you), then Dart will often only get one attack per battle.

As far as the tier list goes, I’d say Albert should be A Tier only if you maxed out Lavitz’s Additions before Albert joins. Albert’s Additions are known as the hardest in the game to the point where he literally becomes unusable for those without good reflexes. Albert IMO is B Tier if the player didn’t max out Lavitz’s Additions first.
