Tiers for non-fighting games?

yea you’re right. I haven’t played AW in awhile and completely forgot Eagle’s OP CO powers.

I’d put Max in a tier of his own. 150/100 direct vehicles are just stupidly overpowered, allowing him to obliterate on ground or in air.

Pretty hard game for me to tier is NWN2, because it has so many variations in the races, item levels and class combinations …

Race is pretty much determind by the server you play on and the ECL limitation in epic levels as well as the class, thus only classes are considered (in the most popular builds). Though I say in generel Humans, Yuan Ti, Dark Elf’s and Deep Gnoms are very dominant.

NWN2+add ons:

S:
Sorc (with divine class dip, ASoC class and in armor casting)
Wiz builds (with RW and ASoC + other class)
Kama Monks(in high magic worlds else B rank)

A:
Scythe RDD builds
Clerics builds

B+:
Favored Soul builds (might be in A, not exactly sure)
Druid with Monk dip and, or SD

B:

Power Stone 2 Tier List

No Transformation

S RANK: Jack(-1), Ryoma, Gunrock(+1) Rogue(+2) Gourmand(-1)
A RANK: Falcon(-1), Accel(-2), Galuda(+1), Mel, Ayame(+4), Julia(+1)
B RANK: Wang Tang(+1), Pete(+1), Pride(+1)

As you can see, noone is bad since the worst rank is B Rank, so everyone is pretty good.

Transformation Only

S RANK: Ayame, Rogue(+1), Gunrock, Julia
A RANK; Falcon, Mel(-2), Ryoma, Pete
B RANK: Wang Tang, Pride(+1), Gourmand
C RANK: Galuda, Accel(+2)
D RANK: Jack(-1)

Could you explain that Power Stone 2 tier list? I don’t disagree, just would like the reasoning behind it.

I disagree with sum placements and why are you separating transformed states? They are a part of the chars abilities. Just do one huge list. And Falcon is S tier easily.

Certainly. First you have to understand that power stone 2 is a game that has MUCH unpredictability naturally build into it because of the item system. Thus, this list is based off of one on one scenarios with each other (otherwise there would be no plus or minus). If there WAS a 4 player tier list, Gunrock, Ayame, Rogue and Mel would be on top, which isn’t so far from the regular tier list anyway.
Jack’s placement: Spin attack loop, fastest character in the game (due to his air dive), makes items bigger when you grab them, can trap people in the corner easily, but he is (-1) because Gunrock and Gourmand have strong attacks that make it difficult with his low defense, regardless of how much you can evade and trap them

Everyone elses placement: based upon a couple of factors
-how fast they can move (translates to getting power stones)
-how well they can use items to their advantage (which corresponds with speed (faster characters get better items, at least logistically)
-potential damage (through combos)
-ability to render the enemy immobile (through traps)
-ability to keep the enemy away (through knockback)
-ability to pressure the enemy (again, through speed/mobility)
-ability to knock power stones out (through # of attacks and usefulness of them that can do so 'rogues cartwheel, jack’s dive attack, gunrock’s dive kick, accels guns, probably the best ones)
-Evasiveness (…mobility)
-ability to do well on most maps (mobility and knockback)
-ability to beat out other attacks (priority, has to do with speed as well)
-Range (has to do with speed, but mainly hitboxes like galuda’s dive kick and jack’s spin attack)

In terms of transformations, it has to do with relative usefulness.
Ayame is the best because her shuriken super juggles enemies to a point where you can get both power stones while they are still reeling from damage, that means all you have to do is run away, get the other power stone, and go. Of course this is assuming you get transformed anyway.
Rogue is just a monster, dealing tons of damage with her normal attacks, keeping enemies away with her air attack, and her God flame head homes, does incredible damage, and is extremely mobile.
Gunrock, too much damage, very easy to trap enemies and then use the rollout super.
Julia, can freeze enemies, then its free supers.
I’m not going to explain everyone, but Jack is on the bottom for obvious reasons. It’s hilarious because he is on the top of the tier list, which would make him overall average, however his main placement comes from the fact that it is SO easy for him to knock power stones out.

Separate transform states because its not easy to judge a character as a whole, largely because when you play with official arcades, there are only 3 power stones, and thus transformations happen rarely.

Falcon is not S tier - he gets crushed by Gunrock’s air kick range, easily trapped by Jack’s spin attack loop, hardly damages Gourmand because of his high defense (and gets beat out in the air by his rotational attack), Rogue is just a beast because of her dive kick combos + you cannot escape her combos since if you try to dodge she can cartwheel you, which homes in and negates all forms of escape from her traps.
The only one i disagree with is Ryoma, i feel as if he should be A tier which would put Falcon in S tier. But everyone in S tier is better than him, yet observe how the tiers are SAB, so there are no bad characters (save for Wang Tang)

Depends on the position.
Best forward is easily tidus or brother.
Best goalie is Blappa

I can’t think of the characters off the top of my head (I’d have to play through X again) but there are 1-2 Characters that get 99 in a certain Stat. I.E. Nedus gets 99 Speed, Blappa gets 99 Catch, Keepa gets 99 Shot. So on and so forth. And usually what ever max stat they have that’s what position they should be in.

Race wise though the Al-Bhed are easily the best since they have the best Blocking and Passing which is vital when you first start blitzball cause everyone sucks. And because of that I never start playing Blitzball until after Zanarkand so I can recruit people like Brother and wait for Blappa’s contract with the Psyches to expire.

Wedge is broke when you first get him but he becomes progressively worse (at a certain level, I can’t remember his stats actually go DOWN and he becomes a goalie instead of a forward or guard)

But with all this said, Tidus is all around the best Blitzer in the game. The rest is all based on what position you want them in.

I’ll probably post later with a more detailed list. Cause yeah, I maxed out my timer of FFX cause of Blitz. lol

get Bickson
keep Besaid Aurochs Centre (think his name is Letty or something)
get Brother
win.

I’m not sure if anyone posted tiers for Shining Force 2 yet, but here are what I think are the tiers, of course assuming promotions at Lv. 40

The most difficult part of tiering this game are the Creed’s Mansion characters. The 4 characters you get from Creed are the best in their archetype, but you can only choose 1 of them initially. Karna is easily the best character in the game, but I prefer grabbing Tyrin when you can first get him because he’s the best Wizard in the game and Karna can easily catch up in levels later on thanks to Boost. Any Creed character you get later besides Karna will be too weak to be useful, so grab Karna if you want an easy game, get Tyrin if you want more ranged attackers (since most of them suck in this game), fuck Eric and Randolf.

Jecht shot.

Dude, letters mean jack shit. I could easily just say Top, mid and low. Some one is bad relative to someone else being good. Doesn’t make them less bad. They are still bad compared to the top.

I dont think that’s true. You are missing the part where the tiers are based off of one versus one encounters.
Thus, the rules don’t apply when 1v1v1v1 or 2v2 or 3v1, etc. Letters mean a lot, especially with the + and - factors.
I see what you’re saying though, but its more like saying if I have a set of 10, 9, and 8, 8 is bad compared to 10 but its still good, which is exactly the same thing. This as opposed to a set with 10 - 5 - 1. They are closer in proximity than Wang Tang just being completely dominated by Jack or Rogue, + there are some match up rules as well.

There’s no denying grit’s abilities but if you manage to get in on him with with high movement vechicles (recon, tanks, heavy tanks, etc) he will fall. Despite having increased vision he cannot fire rockets AND move on same turns.

Sturm is where he is only because his campaign version is so damn cheap. Meteor Strike gets boosted 4+ PTS from campaign, and his offensive ratings are right up there with Max/Kanbi. Defensively he’s pretty weak, when Max attacks him you’ll definitely notice. But it’s a whole lot better in VS. mode where a player can control his army. I tried to factor both Campaign and VS. Mode scenarios.

This applies the same thing for Sonja. Her campaign missions are some of the most annoying in the game, but it’s not as bad as Eagle FoW missions. Those are quite the terror.

I wanted to tier Max S but that would mean I’d have to the same for Eagle. Eagle really isn’t that far off from being the best CO in 1.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Vento Aureo/Golden Wind (GioGio’s Bizarre Adventure)

Top Tier:
Giorno Giovanna (Gold Experience)
Amazing damage, amazing speed for Stand attacks, best combos in the game. Get your opponent in the corner and you can just wail on them with normals or Gold Experience. His tree can also be used as a quick escape.
**
Giorno Giovanna (Gold Experience Requiem)**
Same as normal Giorno but gains a better projectile, marginally slower, and Requiem looks dumb.

Blono Buccellati (Sticky Fingers)
Great combos, great attack speed, but only decent damage output. His extend punch does great damage and is good for closing of combos. All of Sticky Finger’s zipper techniques are great for escapes and traveling the map faster.

High Tier:**
Narancia Ghirga (Aerosmith)**
Aerosmith is entirely too good, you don’t even need his radar or anything else for that matter. Aerosmith is incredibly fast, does ridiculous damage, can zoom around blocking enemies, and can trap them in corners. Problem is Narancia is entirely focused around Aerosmith and leaves himself vulnerable.
**
Jean Pierre Polnareff (Silver Chariot)**
Great damage, stupidly fast, and the widest reach in the game in terms of stands. Drawbacks are that he can’t dodge and he’s entirely reliant on Silver Chariot
**
Blono Buccellatti/Diavolo (Sticky Fingers)**
Same as normal Buccellatti but has a weaker set of no stand normals and crappier voice acting

Mid Tier:**
Leone Abbachio (Moody Blues)**
Pretty bare bones but has some pretty good combos and damage, Moody Blue’s replay ability is pretty much useless.

Low Tier:
Guido Mista (Sex Pistols)
He gets points for being fucking awesome but really isn’t that great in this game. Decent damage, has to aim his shots even if he’s bouncing the bullets, has to remain stationary to attack, can only do real damage once all six Sex Pistols are locked onto an opponent.

**Trish Una (Spice Girls) **
Basically a bare bones version of Giorno. You could say she’s a Giorno WANNABE. Slower, weaker normals, no useful extra abilities, lackluster damage.

Shit Tier:
Pannacotta Fugo (Purple Haze)
Quiet possibly one of the most broken stand users in all of JoJo and he’s complete ass in this game. His normals are crap and you’ll be using those most of the time. Purple Haze walks separate from Fugo at snail pace. His damage is average at best and has pretty crappy and stale combos. Not to mention Purple Haze stops randomly to scratch himself leaving him completely vulnerable. His projectile is completely useless as well.

Trying to factor in both modes is great except that Strum really is a different character in campaign and vs modes, his stats are flipped. Just because he has the same name and art does not make him the same character. See CPU seth in SF4 vs human controlled seth, except the difference is probably even more pronounced here.

I recently finished the next-gen Aliens vs. Predator for PS3. I want to preface this by saying the game is awful. All of the campaigns reuse the same levels with little variety and are extremely imbalanced in content. Where the marine campaign might give you a couple hours of play, the alien’s game can be cleared in 30 minutes on a first play through – on hard difficulty. There are also various mind numbing glitches and programming errors not fixed in patches for whatever reason. Some of the more ridiculous ones include being able to score multiplayer experience in single player, game freezes during crucial boss fights, or glitching the last boss into a box to make him harmless… although I feel this is fair game in Nightmare difficulty as he can one shot the player from across the room. Ranked multiplayer is wrought with the worst matchmaking system in history, where it can take up to thirty minutes to get a fifteen minute game started. There are also issues with experience gain, where subsequent games after the first are disregarded upon quitting the game.

Anyway, I’m bored at work so here’s what I feel is an indisputable tier list for competitive play. I suppose this mostly applies to one on one or deathmatch.

Top
Predator – I read somewhere on the competitive AvP scene forum that the game developers hosted a national deathmatch tournament in the U.S. All of the semifinalists were predator users. For starters, predators are the toughest race. They have the most life, do not take fall damage, and, if I recall correctly, can only be knocked down by explosives and predator heavy attacks. For those who haven’t played the game, opponents can be floored by certain attacks and weapons. The high life total also doubles as protection against trophy kills (frontal instant death attacks) as targets need to be below a certain percentage of health. Predators start with a maxed out ammo pool which is shared between all weapons and a medkit. A predator can heal himself to full life five times with max ammo. This is great because two of the predator’s three best weapons do not require energy and even though predators can trophy and stealth kill opponents, almost every single weapon has the potential to instant kill most opponents in one hit anyway. The battle disk does not require ammo and can instant kill anything that’s not a predator when used properly. The plasma caster (shoulder cannon) requires energy but one shots everything, deals splash damage, and has quasi auto aim. And this was all after a patch nerf. It can be dodged without a wall but it’s tricky.
But that’s not all! The predator dominates melee combat. Basically, the melee system for all races works like RPS: light attack > block > heavy attack > light attack. Light attacks interrupt heavy attack start up. Heavy attacks also interrupt heavy attack start up. A counterattack can be done on block for light attacks which floors an opponent. Of course, not all attacks are created equal and the predators not only have the fastest heavy attack, but a very glitched one. The hitbox is HUGE and will hit opponents from at least four character lengths away. If a predator performs a second heavy attack after a previous heavy attack is interrupted, the second attack cannot be interrupted. This means that unless you have the means to kill the attacking predator, you are not escaping due to the ridiculous range of the heavy. Also, predator heavy attack stuns everyone… it’s the touch of death. In addition, Predators have a lock-on light attack that stuns non-predators and follows targets up walls, across chasms, around corners.
Miscellaneous stuff… predators have great movement options with the second fastest run and a species specific super jump for reaching hard to reach spots quickly. They can cloak indefinitely. It only turns off automatically after an throwing an attack or touching a puddle. One of their weapons is a proximity mine that’ll one hit kill non-predators. Opposing predators have the mines clearly marked in their vision and can move around them appropriately.

Upper Mid
Marine – Mobility and life are sacrificed for radar. Unlike previous AvP games, the motion tracker is 360 degrees… essentially rendering stealth impossible on an alert marine player. Predators can snipe marines from outside radar range, or simply sit still on the high ground until prey nears. The standard pulse rifle is useful versus aliens, not so much for predators unless there are grenades stocked. Sniper rifles can one hit kill aliens and other marines easy if you can find the ammo, but sniping can be hard in a quake-style shooter. It also sees cloaked predators and enemies behind walls. The pistol does pathetic damage, but has a glitch where all the players in the game hear it as if the shooter is right next to them. Lovely. The shotgun is easily the best weapon, see below.
There are three things in my opinion which make marines competitive: 1) Sniper rifle. 2) Motion tracker. 3) Shotgun/Melee exploit. The exploit is simple: marines can melee and fire their secondary shotgun blast at the same time. The secondary shot is just two shells at the same time, it’s a lot of damage. Marines don’t have a heavy attack, they have a light attack that causes light damage but heavy attack stun. Even if you can’t figure out how to shoot/melee at the same time, you can always do one, then the other. Secondary shotgun fire can instant kill a predator if it’s a headshot, so good aim is necessary.

Low
Alien – Aliens are the most fun to play. It’s unfortunate that they suffer in almost every field that isn’t mobility. Aliens excel in movement: fastest run, climb any surface, long jumps, no fall damage. Aliens have average health and can regenerate, which is awesome but completely inefficient compared to predator and marine medkits. The biggest problem comes from the alien being a lightweight and getting floored by just about every attack under the sun, which leads to inevitable death.
Aliens have no ranged attacks but have a couple of melee gimmicks at their disposal. Aliens have the slowest heavy attack, which means predators will always win a heavy fight since they get the first strike/knockdown and marines can empty a clip before the active frames. However, aliens have an alternate contextual heavy attack-- a quick tail strike. It kills marines in one or two hits and predators in three or four. The tail attack only comes out while airborne or when climbing a surface. This means you should only engage in melee when attached to a wall or while jumping like a maniac. This cannot be abused quite like it sounds since aliens can get floored by the smallest light attack. The spacing also has to be very specific, as neutral jumping next to a surface sometimes auto targets it for wall climbing. Aliens also have the unique ability (read: glitch) to cancel their regular heavy attack startup into block. This helps against other aliens and marines that use melee without a shotgun, or use melee instead of just gunning down your slow heavy attack on startup. I never found this helpful against predators. Even if you hit a predator with a heavy attack, you need to cycle around to their backside to avoid getting slapped out of your followup.

Megaman Battle Network 2 Navi PA Tiers

Metal Blade brokeness tier (God Tier)

DARKNESS
I wouldn’t have even put this on here because it’s not even legal unless you live in Japan, and even then it’s still banned in any serious match, but oh well. The most powerful PA ever. It does 3000 damage, hits all enemy panels, and cracks the back 3. You’re dying unless by some miracle they used it when you were invisible.

GATER
This is it. One of the cheapest PA ever in a Megaman Battle Network game. Gater is easy to summon, can hit enemies anywhere (unless they’re offscreen), does 100 damage per hit (900 damage total), freezes the screen so it all hits, fits into almost any deck, and is easy to use over and over again in a single battle. If you abuse this on an opponent they will stab you.

(Top Tier)

BODYGUARD
Also very good. 18 Shurikens, each doing 100 damage, home in on you. Thankfully it’s not a screen freeze so you can avoid it, and if you get hit you’ll be invisible for a few seconds.

(Mid)

BIG HEART
Heals all your HP, homes in on the enemy does 500 damage, and leaves you with a few seconds of invisibility. Still, it’s very hard to summon.

DBL. HERO
It only does 70 damage per hit (560 damage total), and is hard to pull off, but it hits all panels.

(Bottom)

GUTS SHOOT
Gutsman throws Megaman straight forward. Does 400 damage and if you aim wrong you will miss.

Wow, I started this topic 5 years ago, and it’s still going strong. Crazy. It’s fun looking back at my original posts and seeing how much of an asshole I was. At any rate, since I’m still alive and still probably don’t know any game as well as Final Fantasy Tactics, I might as well make a new Final Fantasy Tactics tier list.

Final Fantasy Tactics 3rd-Tier Monsters Tier List (What an ugly name)

First of all, I should mention that because monsters don’t wear equipment and rely on their crazy stat growth to compensate, at late levels, almost any monster is decently useful. Even D-Tier monsters can help in a fight at high levels, but the point is, you have to spend tons of time leveling the monster up just so it can do the same things as a human character half its level can. Anyways, on to the list!

S Tier
Tiamat - By far and away the best 3rd-Tier monster in the game. Only other monster that comes close is the Hydra, since they are essentially the same class with lower stats. I would even argue that a Tiamat can dominate the game as much as Orlandu. Tiamats have great speed, amazing HP, can fly, and, in Triple Flame/Thunder, have arguably the most powerful attacks in the whole game. In fact, you can beat the game with JUST a Tiamat, and it’s not even THAT hard.

A Tier
Red Chocobo - Amazing monster. Great speed, insane movement, and Choco Meteor. All you need.

Dark Behemoth - Not quite as useful all-around as the Red Chocobo but still good enough for A Tier. More HP than a Tiamat, good speed, 4 movement (which is the minimum movement necessary to be useful in this game), and the highest attack power in the game. Monsters need more leveling up than humans to be useful (since they don’t get equipment), but Dark Behemoths are so strong they can keep pace. Oh, and Ulmaguest is the best Monster Skill in the game.

B Tier
S and A Tier monsters are all good enough to use over human characters. A Red Chocobo may not be as good as a maxed-out Math Skill wielding Reis, but its much easier to attain and use. Plus, for purposes of beating the game, it’s equally effective. The B Tier monsters, IMO, are still good enough to use over human classes, though humans are probably better in general.

Vampire - They have good speed (very important for monsters), decent HP, good attack, 4 move with Ignore Height, and Blaster. Late game Blaster is ridiculous, but early on, its not quite as useful. Still, the Vampire’s base powers are good enough to make it usable.

Cocatoris - They are good. 6 move, Fly, great speed, and Feather Bomb’s 0 vertical tolerance allows it to control space really well. This helps to make up for its low HP somewhat. I once used one to beat the game, and it worked quite well.

Red Dragon - Very good HP, 5 move, good damage, and Breath attack is very good. Just a really solid monster all around.

C Tier
These monsters have things going for them that don’t make them suck, but they aren’t really that great in general. I still like playing them, though.

Plague - 5 move and Fly gives it great movement, but its lacking in general in damage and HP. Look of Devil and Circle are useful, but only later in game when their percentages shoot up a bit. Usable, but its going to require a lot more leveling up to keep its HP and attack power up to par.

Revnant - Great movement, but really, really fragile. Revnant is here on this tier because of Drain Touch. Drain Touch works as a gravity attack, doing a 1/3 of a target’s max HP, so its very useful. The healing is alright, but mostly the damage is what counts.

Gobbledeguck - This one is tricky. On the surface, the Gobbledeguck is very average. Low movement, average HP, and average damage. Usable, but will require a lot of leveling up to keep it going. However, its Monster Skill is Mutilate, a gravity attack that does 3/4 max HP damage. If you can set this baby up, it makes all Zodiac beasts in the game a lot easier.

Sacred - First of all, I wanna start by saying that the Sacred is my favorite monster in the game. I’ve already finished the game three times with it in my team. Gather Power is Accumulate on steroids, and basically that’s all you do with a Sacred. You Gather Power, and go in for OHKOs. Why is it only C-Tier? Because it’s got slow speed and crappy movement, so landing that one hit is often quite tricky. It has Mimic Titan for a little ranged damage, but its usually so small that its not that useful.

D Tier
These monsters pretty much suck, so I only use them for a challenge.

Mindflare - Low damage, bad speed, really fragile, and Mind Blast is crap until you build it up. Even after you build it up, it’s only decent.

Living Bone - Average HP, average attack power, low speed, and its skills suck. Oh, and its undead so you can’t heal it.

Great Morbol - This thing actually has a chance for C-Tier if it weren’t for a few problems. First of all, the good. It has the highest base HP in the game. Eventually, other Tiamats and Dark Behemoths will overtake it because of their superior growth, but your Morbol will always at least survive. And Bad Bracelet is good; it’s just hard to use effectively because of its weird AoE effect and its 1-vertical limit. Now, the bad. This thing is stupid slow. Really, really slow. And its regular attack is not that strong. Meaning, the real reason its hard to set up Bad Bracelet is because this thing is too damn slow. So there you go.

Explosive - Slow, low HP, low damage, and Spark is barely useful. Self-Destruct is semi-useful, but meh.

E Tier
The suck.

Wildbow - Really low hp, but surprisingly very high attack power and really high speed. Unfortunately, it only has 3 move and its attack has 0 vertical tolerance, so you’ll never get a hit in. Auto-fail. Porkys are actually better because of Pooh.

Taiju - High HP, but mega slow and once again, 0 vertical tolerance on all attacks. Auto-fail. Trents are better because though they also have 0 vertical tolerance on all their attacks, they can at least heal with one of them, rather than providing a low percentage chance of landing a Shell or Protect.

And, there you go. Wildbows and Taiju suck so hard that the only classes in the game that are worse are a bunch of GameShark only humans that can’t equip anything. Oh, and Woodmen and Uribo (which might be the worst class in the game).

I’m getting back into video game playing again, so I’ll probably be putting up more tier lists in the future, but those will be mostly speculation on my part. Let’s keep this awesome thread going!
