both accent core and i suppose thats soul calibur 2, where very well balanced games an so is tatsunoko, thats why we dont get to see a solid tier list, but im happy for that, that way everyone can play whoever they want without taking into account a tier list
Those games did not have PTs3x with 40 g@ys or Golden Lightsaber Man.
I think you mean Gold Fridgetan.
Debate this if you’d like. Not including every character, just the best 6.
Ken, Jun, Zero, Blade, Saki, Joe
Ken - great mobility, fast poke (2A) w/ great priority, sets up into his BnB really easily, free teleport, incredibly damaging lvl3, mid-screen loop and corner loop. Bird shoot is safe to throw out mid range, tons of high-low mixup options. Projectile is useful, not good but useful. unblockable setup with Ryu assist. Partners well with Ippatsuman, Ryu, Joe, Saki and Soki. horrible as an assist is the only real downside.
Jun - decent mobility, incredible damage output and priority, launcher loops are easy to perform but only work in the corner unfortunately, can easily stop advance with her qcb+p provided she has planted bombs on you. Partners well with anyone who has a projectile, or polimar
Zero - we all already know.
Blade - too much damage with no baroque. Only downside is he has little mobility unless he uses his spear throw, which can’t even be punished too easily.
Saki - incredible keep away, extreme damage output, fast poke and unblockable setup with her unblockable bullet. She should be the top of top tier IMO because she’s got easy AA traps that if blocked can’t be punished. Actually in general she can’t be punished too easily if she plays keepaway unless you have a projectile super like Frank or Ryu, or even Ken.
Joe - the one i really have to debate. His damaging combos are easier than Zeros and do more damage per hit, 5A hits low, strong launcher, great BnB with any assist because of 236B --> AB5C. Punishes all rush in characters with 5A and his counter, beats out most keep away characters with his good air game.
If you replace Blade and Joe the Conder with Yatterman-1 then I can agree that is the top 5.
After MvC3 is released I’ll publish my own personal tier list on Eventhubs, just for fun. I’ll also include a bit of detail as to why I think characters go where they are. No need to take it that seriously.
Maybe I’ll talk to some people at EVO seriously about tier lists before I do that. We’ll see.
i don’t really think you can argue against blade, maybe joe, but blade does too much damage to ignore.
Yeah i think ill replace Joe with Yat-1, though he doesn’t do a lot of damage and doesn’t have good priority
A: PTX, Zero, Blade, Ken, Yatterman-1
B: Jun, Ippatsuman, Chun-Li, Polimar, Batsu, Saki, Viewtiful Joe, Gold Lightan
C: Doronjo, Alex, Ryu, Soki, Tekkaman, Rock Volnutt, Morrigan
D: Roll, Casshan, Yatterman-2, Frank West, Karas
?: Joe the Condor
I can’t see Lightan being anything other than the worst character in the game - maybe even the worst character in 2D fighting game history, but I can’t claim enough knowledge of past 2D fighters to properly back that up. He has numerous matchups that are nearly 0-10 and in fact, some of them (like Zero) might actually be 0-10.
PTX is still a baller though.
Solid tier list. Only a couple things I’d change. I’d bump Yat-2 up a tier, maybe even 2, I’d bump lightan down one, and I’d put C.Joe at B tier. IMO.
joe the condor is B tier for sure, about the middle of B, or top B with a bit of luck
i will change rotan list a bit:
A:Blade, yatterman-1, zero, ken (only with tekkaman assist alone is B)
B:jun, batsu, saki (A with megaman assist or chunli assist), ippatsuman, joe the condor, volnutt, ryu, doronjo(C without the right assist), polimar, ptx
C: v.joe, roll, yatterman2, karas, alex, tekkaman, casshan, frank west, gold lightan
i dont really think a D category is needed since everyone is awesome in this game
I think a well-rounded Tekkaman Blade can pretty much outclass the whole roster because of his damage output and crazy rush-down. Still, I doubt one can be 100% accurate when creating a tier list for TvC, because of its inherent balance. It all boils down to your personal performance against each character.
I personally think Gold Lightan is massively underrated. Its true he can get counter-picked hard, but people never look at the flip-side of the situation and using him to counter-pick others. He gets destroyed by a few members of the cast for free, but he destroys the remaining members of the cast. Sure, if someone is a Gold Lightan main and knows no other team, they are going to get fucked up. But having a main team and a giant both in reserve is a stupidly powerful option, even if that reserve giant is Gold Lightan.
I think Gold Lightan wrecks some characters harder than PTX, and even wins the fight against PTX (though, that requires extensive use of the Lightan Loop, which gives Lightan a WAY easier way to do big damage in that matchup than PTX). I think Lightan/Zero may be somewhat bad for Lightan but a bit exaggerated. I almost think its easier for Lightan to catch a run away Zero than it is for PTX due to his much higher reach. If he can catch Zero in the air doing his bullshit at any point he has an opportunity to go into the Lightan Loop. I’ve seen Phampy do more than good enough against proficient Zeros with Lightan, though that match is still all or nothing for both sides. I don’t recommend Zero as a giant counterpick either way as its too easy to get random’d out in that match. The idea that giants are free to him is amusing to me from the number of times I’ve seen them beat Zero.
If you are picking Lightan against Tekkaman Blade/Ryu, well then you’re doing it wrong.
As far Yatterman-2, I kind of feel like her only real impressive things are her j.b and robot friend. I guess she does have some resets in mixups but damage on that stuff is terrible. I almost see her like Karas. Has some cool looking options, but damage and health are so terrible she ends up not really preforming very well in the end.
I kinda think Joe the Condor could be low B or high C, but I feel like he’s just so stupidly unexplored to be placed properly. There are a few impressive looking Joe the Condors out there but it seems like they are so far removed from a scene I’ve never seen him in much action. Even those guys are pretty few in number. He comes across as one of the least developed characters in the game to me, I feel like he had tons of potential that was never truly given a chance to be shown off.
As a last bit, I do think a D tier is needed. The game is pretty well balanced but I think only as TvC is starting to fade away are we starting to see more of a divide in character ability. The game hasn’t even been out a year yet, and things like this are always in flux especially when its a versus game which is very free in what you can do in it.
Joe condor’s combos are really hard to do but have pretty good damage output. He works well with all assists because of his darts but him as an assist doesn’t work well for many besides Ken.
I really think that Ken / Saki is an extremely beast team. Both assists help out each others’ style of gameplay and both are good at what they do.
I’m glad this thread is alive again.
Seeing these tier lists you guys make makes suprised to see Yatterman-2 so low, at first I thought she was a pretty nasty character with good mixup game, but seems like her poor damage and low health makes her a easy target, thank god her little robot guy sometimes saves her from combos, and she is pretty fast too, so that is a something to fear.
And damn, it seems like Roll will always be low tier in fighting games, that makes me sad, I still want to believe she has potential, but as much as I like her I can’t see her pros and good matchups yet, I hope this changes later.
both are fairly strong keep in mind this game is fairly balanced and alot of characters can compete even if they might technically be near the bottom but putting them at D tier is a bit much. roll is a bit of a gimmick cuz she doesn’t land damage the “normal way” but a good percent of characters cant deal with her size, movement, and J.C well, she requires the right partner otherwise she is absolutely bottom tier maximized with Yatterman or Cashern she can be solid mid but no higher because of meter burn though.
I would think #2 would be a bit below jun level, in return for lower damage on combos and health and more meter usage, she gets improved block strings and a very high damage level 3 and a robot.
i feel like Ippatsu is at the top of b tier or even A- tier, Hes just dangerous, he has top class mobility and damage and he has got really good block string options and can mix up off them legitimately with bbq and can be fairly safe without it. his psycho crusher can seem pretty stupid sometimes and he has high damage off of anything and gives your partner high damage off of anything. he has good projectiles and his air throw super is an excellent asset giving him high damage and air unblockables off of alot of situations in this game where mobility and being in the air is hugely important, His slide is pretty godlike as a movement and pressure tool and his J.C and J.B are beafy and overall I would probably rather have him solo than any other character. he is godlike cuz he gets high damage off of your opponents combos in the corner.
I really dont know about this cuz i use shitty yatterman assist with him but he could probably put to use projectile assists or other long range assists to create scary mixups and unblock-able reset setups, not quite as good as domination that the top tier can dish out with assists but still good enough to make him just under them i think.
Y2 has a really strong rushdown game with good normals and a retardedly strong defensive option in the qcb spin. That thing comes out in like 1 frame, gets a free combo on either a clean hit or a trade, and if it whiffs, can actually mix you up with the length if you try to punish. It also hits everywhere, including crossups.
Other than that, basically her j.B is just one of the safest approaches in the game, she can rejump airdash it for mixups, and she’s got good normals to keep pressure on you safely. Both level 1 supers are easy to just pop and keep pressure on easier, and the lvl3 does way more damage than she deserves if she gets a chance to use it.
Trying not to downplay the Zeros that Phampy may have played, but Zero with experience against Lightan is extremely different from Zero without experience against Lightan. I’ll admit right away that when I started playing against Lightan I got fucked up more than a few times, but as I continued fighting him it got ridiculously easier. Like, easier to the point that I felt if I ever got hit by him, it was because I let him hit me. It was very easy to just stay away from him for as long as possible, wait for him to do one of his laggy-ass moves and avoid it either with a super-jump, command dash, or level 3 super right through it, then start running away and repeat (shooting level 3 charge as often as possible). Maybe I need to play better Lightans though, hard to say with how few people actually play the game.
I’m also sad seeing everyone placing Casshern so low. Sure his range is pretty terrible, but his damage output is absolutely ridiculous, he has a solid dive kick (as long as you can protect it with an assist or baroque when it’s blocked), one of the best air-dashes in the game, he does rather well against the giants between the ability to harass with the Dog and actually combo them for a good chunk of damage off of a dive kick, and gets a free unblockable after a tag-in from a KO’ed opponent which also combos into OTG ground pound into super or into BnB in the corner.
I sorted this tier list alphabetically.
A++ Tier:
Zero
A+ Tier:
Chun-Li, Jun the Swan, Ken the Eagle, Mega Man, PTX-40A, Ryu, Yatterman-1
A Tier:
Batsu, Doronjo, Ippatsuman, Kaijin no Soki, Polimar, Saki, Tekkaman Blade
A- Tier:
Alex, Casshan, Frank West, Joe the Condor, Morrigan, Tekkaman, Yatterman-2
B+ Tier:
Karas, Roll, Viewtiful Joe
Matchup Tier:
Gold Lightan
Characters I am antsy about are Batsu(too low?) Frank(too high?).
Yatterman-2 damage is really poor. She has to guess so many times. Her dash is really awful (even Frank has a better dash). Her stamina is ass and her Level 1s don’t lead to straight damage. The little robot friend attacks so infrequently with such little hitstun/blockstun that it’s kind of sad. Lastly, you really don’t want to be depending on your Level 3 to close out matches unless you want to style on people like Marn or JWong. Low stamina = more dependence on Mega Crash = fewer meters to waste on a single Level 3. Note how all the best characters in the game easily get the job done with their Level 1 Hypers.
Ken/Ippatsu is a great team, If I had to put A- in there i’d make the list like this.
A+: PTX, Blade
A: Zero, Ken, Yatterman-1
A-: Jun, Ippatsuman,
B+: Chun-Li, Polimar, Batsu, Saki, Viewtiful Joe, Gold Lightan, Casshan
B: Doronjo, Alex, Ryu, Soki, Yat2, Tekkaman, Rock Volnutt, Morrigan
C: Roll, Frank West, Karas
The list isn’t in order, they are just in the categories
I guess I’ll hop on the wagon (prepare to scratch your heads XD)
S: Zero, PTX, T-Blade
A: Jun, Ken, Y-1, Ippatsuman, Chun
B: Alex, Ryu, Tekkaman, V-Joe, Batsu, Polimar, Volnutt, JoeC, Casshern, Saki
C: Soki, Doronjo, Morrigan, Frank, Y-2, Karas, Roll
D: Lightan
The order of characters within tiers is really rough, but I tried to put them in order. I don’t really feel like this game has a true “low tier” (other than Lightan) though - I’m hesitant to put Karas and Roll that low; they’re both good enough, they just aren’t better than the characters above them. I also have to admit I have very limited knowledge of Y-2, Frank, Soki, and Ippatsuman.
