ok i use roll well i use the entire roster, i main zero and joe so far, but i have a bit of knowlegde with the cast, so in my opinion, roll avarage damage doesnt seen so powerful unless your on the edge, where she can pull of about 30 billion damage with or without baroque or super with her relaunches combos, anyway, and mid-screen is about 20 billion at best with power brom, without you need baroque to pull of a relaunch an do that same damage, but as emptyshiki has already point out roll isnt about damage, but about been annoying, i will say is rather zoning that annoying but thats pretty much the same XD, roll brom has a disjoined box which by way totally dominate the air, a good roll can easily take that most of air aproches with her high priority brom couple with her little hitbox make her really good, the right assist can make her quite powerful, now for the character that have the hardes time against roll, i will say casshan, polimar, batsu, frank, even chun has a hard time against her, most of this is because this character, cant land there damaging combos due to roll litte hitbox, and the damage around her has to decrease around 14 to 16 billion, which give roll nice advantage, but i leave this to you guys if you want to give more into this information, i will stand to my moto, “every character on tatsunoko is a playable character”
Well what I meant by barely viable was she does not have a lot of options compared to other characters. Not a lot of people you will see use Roll in a tourney. Roll is an average character but is underrated. So I would need to see a good roll to be placing for me to consider her better than average. So good luck to the roll players playing her. I want to see a fearless roll dominate!
I would not say she only has 2 working teams, 5 is pushing it tho, while she heals Volutt and Zero (I do not know if she heals anyone besides those 2 and casshern) I do not really consider them working teams, since they are not as strong as her other teams. Frank and Polimar really work well for her and she is really good for both of them.
Polimar does not care if you are grounded or in the air, his combos work and hurt just about everywhere. A puddle helps him to get in much eaiser also, their VHC is killer on un crashable damage, with a little Baroque you can do something like (with broom charged, it does not have to be puddle powered up to do good damage) 2.A, 2.B, 2.C>VHC>C Sweep mashed to hell Baroqued into A Sweep mashed to hell!! Polimar is also an assist that helps to make a pattern on how to get sweep power-ups (I am talking about someone who can help roll to achieve two or more puddle power-ups off one sweep.)
Frank does not really work well with many people in the cast either, so it is random that roll helps him so much and that he makes getting a single puddle power-up really safe. People have seen most of the frank roll stuff so I really do not have to go into that, but I will say that his assist help roll to get in with IAD A, which is really really helpful for roll.
Like I said, you could consider either Zero or Volutt a fifth/sixth team, I just do not see them as super helpful in getting puddle powerups, (no more than others really) but she does heal them so the 80bill combined life could be more like 110 bil on a Zero/Roll team, since Zero really does not use supers at all. Not so much on a Volutt team as he does use gun super a lot.
My Zero/Roll team is viable =[
As is my Roll/Alex.
And Roll heals all Robo-like characters (0, MM, $, Blade, Waffles, PTX)

The ending to that Roll/Alex match in casuals Friday afternoon was some straight-up homo-genius shit, Kurasa.
Still can’t believe that slipped my mind.
HEALING FTW!!

who’s ‘$’?
hmmm…$…bling…gold…
it’s Lightan, I think.
hmm, somehow this sign reminds me of having a dog as a friend, and doing stupid captain falcon knee’s with super armor that hit overhead:looney:
$ = Cash
Didn’t know Blade was robot status, either.
Neither did I since it is a Human in a robot suit like Tekkaman.
So they heal the suit
Damn, I’ve missed this game. I somehow end up spending alot of energy and training on games that turn out to be unsuccessful or “obscure”. Darkstalkers, TvC, doujin fighters like EFZ… I just don’t stay interested in successful/popular games like SF4 for long. I don’t know.
Anyway, nice to see discussion still happens here (despite shitty attitude posts at the beginning). Any chance I could persuade for some Volnutt tier analysis? Or is that concluded since there’s no meaningful content on the guy.
And is Karas nowhere near top tier? I don’t see him in top lists.
Blade is a robot. Watch the show.
I’ve watched some clips of Blade before and there was definitely a human underneath the armor.
And Volnutt is pretty good. Good damaging combos, good keep away, useful assist, great supers, and just all around has decent tools. I think the main issue with him though is his learning curve which is probably why you don’t see that many.
Roll Down Time doesn’t heal Blade, actually. I just checked.
Volnutt in tiers… Kinda difficult finding the right placement in tiers. Not low by any means, but nothing too overpowered either. I’ve been using him lately with Polimar with good results. I don’t want to get into too much detail right now, but Volnutt has some nice mixups with mid-air weapon switches and j.B. Air dashed j.Cs makes for great alternative mobility and actually stuffs most normal attack opportunities (although any verison of Volnutt’s 5/2/j.2C/j.C can be canceled out by most projectiles and most physical attacks). As long as Volnutt has control of the screen and keeping the opponent on the defensive, Volnutt fairs pretty well.
Karas still has good normals, but doesn’t have much more beyond that. Poor damage output and lack of health prevent him from being used seriously. Comeback are possible with him, but are often an uphill battle.
I probably would place Karas like low C tier. Volnutt I have no idea since Royal is the only one using him in SoCal but he uses two other teams as well for tourney.
doesnt karas still have a viable infinite loop with the right assist. does low c tier include that or we talkin solo?
low c in this game is essential bottom for me, is that what your saying.
I knew he wasn’t in s or a for sure but fighting for worst is a bit much since he can still do alot of things better than average.
s, a, b, c are the way i think of this game.
I’ve been using Roll since the 1st day I played the game, and still she is one of my main characters.
Unfortunelly, I’ve never seen any really nice Roll in action (I never saw James Roll in action, but people say she is pretty good).
Sometimes I think she is cheap; sometimes I think she sucks.
My playstyle is usually rushdown all the time, but its really difficult to combo with her, and thats because of 2 reasons: You cant combo after her jC (only if you jump cancel into jA) and her dash has a delayed start up.
As for her range, It’s not really bad. I could complain more about her lack of anti-aerial (Maybe because of her small size?)
It was said before, but Roll wasn’t meant to be a rushdown or keepaway character. She’s meant to be annoying. I’ve noticed that she is a really rage-inducer character: her puddles, her size, her healing, her OTG combos and her jC.
For matchups, I’d say she is really good VS keepaway characters: Saki, Megaman, Doronjo - Reason: fast super jump and air dash + jC (and VS megaman, she can 2M to pass beneath his projectiles, including his machinegun special; if he spams too much, throw water with the charged broom).
Im not sure if these ones are a match up, but I feel really confortable when Im facing Alex or Soki. She can run from Alex and wait for an opportunity, and Soki’s sword wont hit her, if she crouches, (A nice trick vs him is to dash + 2M, then combo).
Jun is also not a smart choice VS Roll, cuz her attacks won’t connect.
jC works pretty well VS Chun Li.
My biggest problems are VS Ryu (jC), Morrigan (Dash + Soul fist), Batsu (jC), Yatterman-2 (jM), Zero (everything). I have trouble VS Blade, if he brings Ryu along, Tekkaman (jC + Range + Damage output) and, of course, giants (argh).
I wouldnt say she is a bad character. No way. My best comebacks happened when I was using her. She can be really good at dodging and scaping, but might need an assist to start a combo. I’d say Casshan is her ideal partner, and the reason were listed by other members.
And if you combine her healing power + power up… Thats fearsome…
These are my experiences so far. I had to learn everything by myself, because there aren’t many Roll players out there, so what I have pointed as pros and cons might not be shared by everybody.
