Heya,
Total headcount: 32 people. 7 seven set ups running. Went strong until 3 in the morning, bunch of hype matches along the way. Thanks to everyone for making this what it was. Pics and more to follow after I sleep for about 12 hours.
32 people for a casual event? Nice.
Good to see the Portland scene still going strong =)
Any special events? Highlights?
people got bodied in bomberman. that’s where the hype was…
had a great time(even tho we didnt hit up Fifa lol), the place is surprisingly huge inside and not as dark or loud as Versis was. Really looking forward to next week, heres hoping ill have 5$.
GGs to everyone i played, it was nice seeing some players i hadn’t seen in awhile as well as meeting a couple new ones. Cant wait to play that Abel again, my only regret was not being there late enough to play Virsaga lol.
Again mad props to the guys who got this ball rolling.
That shit was fun… but since we are calling this “Level Up Thursdays” why don’t we actually help each other instead of casuals and talking shit? I can easily admit that Samy and Matt are better than me, yet when they win they don’t rub it in? I don’t take it personal but nstead of doing that we should help our oppenent what they did wrong.
Im glad I was able to swing by for some games! I had a really good time and the venue looks nice. Bethanie even said if she ever had off work that it seemed like a nice place to hang out and maybe work on homework or something. Anyway ggs and really good work on everyone who got the plan started for this.
 i dont see why good players would need to rub anything in. Angel was talking about recording matchs and then going over them so that the players could get advice. i think that would be sweet because while i do think trash talking is lame, it also can(at times) be hard to give/ask for real advice when your in a rotation.
GGs guys, cool venue, lots of Asus setups. Will be coming out again.
To any pdx vanilla players curious:
I placed in the first couple vanilla tourneys in Portland
and went to a few casual nights at Versus.
I recently returned from a year of grad school in the UK.
So you’ll be seeing more of me.
Anyhow GGs, nice to see the strong turn out
and high level of play.

Last night was incredibly HYPE. Thanks everyone for coming out and special thanks to the peeps who brought extra equipment. We will have something special planned at the next event. Details coming soon
Wait this is gonna be weekly? I normally work Thursday night and had to request this one off =/. I maybe be able to come out on work nights if I leave early, though I wouldn’t be bringing as much equipment like that, probably just a 360 and stick.
Here are a few quick pics from the evening;

A breakdown of the evening;
The Set Up:
We set up just before 6pm, people showed up pretty quick and we kicked right into it. Throughout the evening there was constant traffic, and was a good mix of regulars and new faces. There were some people we haven’t seen much in a while (David, Darwin), and even had a cameo appearance by Ross with his new kid in tow. The original plan was to have 4-5 set ups, this eventually turned into 7 set ups, all of which were used for most of the evening. As I expected, at one point someone spit Bomberman, and it was on. I got sucked into a match, but was distracted by the loudness of Simon patting himself on the back about how godly he was. That damn game might have been the loudest the night got, nothing seems to make people lose their shit like Bomberman.
The Space:
The spot was super legit, basically a wide open hall area right next to the actual cafe. We ended up having to move some really old tables to use for the set ups. One guy was telling us they were antique, something like over a hundred years old, I dunno but they looked like it. A bit nicer than what we needed, but we used them anyway. We kinda had a nice lounge area in the corner where players could kick it, thanks to Will for providing some sweet Street Fighter art books to check out. Purest Cafe was great, the people there were super attentive. Routinely someone working would check in with us, and they seemed to be truly into what was going on. The food and service was legit, I ended up getting a decent crepe at like 1am in the morning. After the event we had a sit down with one of the people running the cafe to recap evening, it was agreed that it was a success and they seemed hyped to have us back.
The Players:
Lots of hype matches. About all of the area’s top players were in attendance, along with a strong showing of people looking to improve their game at whatever level. Portland, Beaverton, Salem, and Washington were there representing. We had a lot of set ups running at once, pretty quickly one of them became the spotlight station. As one player mentioned at one point in the evening, “this is it, right here”. SamY took a 36 game win streak, mainly repping his Abel. After that we did a duel monitor set up. At something like 11:30pm Virsaga walks through the door fresh off work, and pretty quick a $50.00 first to ten breaks out between him and Y. Virsaga was up in the beginning, but in the end it went 10-5 with SamY ftw. Also another series of matches broke out between Jetay and SamB. I was having a series of matches of my own at that point, so I didn’t catch the outcome on that one. We ended up having a camera rolling for most of the before mentioned games. Each week I will probably film at least a few to upload.
In General:
It was a great first night, again rolling a headcount of 32 souls, Virsaga being the last one in. 7 set ups, 9 hours of gaming. It went by fast to me, pretty high energy. We’re looking to break that attendance number, the nice thing about the space was that there is room to expand. The vibe was positive for sure, looked like everyone was having a good time. Thanks to everyone for making it out, and a big shout out to the people who worked on this and lent set ups. We are going to do a recap this week and see how we can make next week even more hype. The goal again is promote our scene and have everyone level up. Have fun, but also get some real improvement going on. That’s my personal goal. There’s still a bunch we can do, this was a good step that direction. See everyone next week.
Next week, I’m there.
I probably try to come by bi-weekly, only be able to stay til 11 too on my current schedule =/
Took a day off, then went online to play a little. It was boring as hell. Playing that many people for that long kinda killed it for me. It’s like the party was a couple of days ago, now nothing to do but wait for next week. I’ll get my schoolin’ in, but nothing this week is gonna be as hype as that was. I thought this as I was sitting there in an empty living room testing combos. As a player, can’t wait till next Thursday.
i am deffinately going to show up to level up my game and meet the portland scene.
How much are the drinks/food?
What sort of budget would be good?
do I need to bring my PS3 Stick? My partially modded goofy stick (Budget on Parts is low at the moment).
I can bring a Copy of the game also, but my ps3 is too much to take on the train.
Honestly…you might be better off bringing your own food or drink. Thats my personal opinion.
Nothing against the place but when you’re looking at anywhere from 4-7 bucks for a less than filling crepe and anywhere from 2 to 5 bucks for a 12 oz drink…you’re gonna be spending a lot more than you think you should be.
^ Outside food or drinks are not allowed. We will update the first page to let peeps know. Also, there WILL be a special food and drink promotion this upcoming week. As soon as it’s 100% finalized we will update the info on the first page.
Which is why we walked in with food lol
^ lol yeah yeah
