Being in a smiliar situation I’d say it really depends on a lot of things. Where you’re from now, why you would want to move there? School? job etc… Cost of living is higher than some major cities like Atlanta and the job market isn’t that great. It rains a lot and depression is very high partially due to less sun exposure. Well at least that is a theory. Mostly white people there so if you like or are minorities you don’t have a lot of options. No offense to white folks. The police force is one of the most corrupt in the country and there was s statistic a few years back that you’re more likely to get shot by the police in portland while doing nothing wrong than you are a criminal.
Anyway I found a job at IBM in Salem. Oddly enough an hour away from portland seems like it is in portland to me after living in Atlanta for this long. Drive is gonna suck and not looking forward to it and not really lookin forward to moving back. I’ll probably be pretty bored so that means I’ll get back into games and probably pick up where I left off on marvel. I hope somebody there can give me a challenge when I get good now.
^If you grew up in the south, Portland is a huge culture shock. I’m originally from socal but I lived in Dallas for 10 years. Once you live in the area for a while you realize it’s actually not a bad place to live. While it does rain alot, you won’t have tornado, flash flood, and severe thunderstorm warnings every other day. Also, you aren’t far from the coast, mountains, or indian reservations for some gambling. There is alot of white people but they don’t mean any harm lol. Portland really shines when you look at all the diverse subcultures it has to offer. There are a few Salem cats out there as well. You might be able to carpool with a few of em if you ever decide to attend an event.
No I’m from Portland originally. I’m the first great player from the northwest and I left about 10 years ago. But everything I said about the northwest is pretty accurate. I don’t really like it and still not sure why I’m moving back other than the money is a hell of a lot better than what I’m getting in Atlanta even with a 16-20% increase cost of living.
