it would be nice if there were other games that we could play in order to learn the basics or core concepts of the street fighter series or a place that wasn’t dictated by casuals and actually focused on improving.

We are going to start running a ranking system based on the huge 3rd strike league in Japan. I tried running this a few times at the dungeon and although it didn’t work very well I learned a lot and I think it can work very well at Purest. Details are in the first post

Glad this is starting this week and not last, should be finally rested up and not so distracted. My schedule has lightened up a bit, so am looking forward to this. At least playing better and more focused than the last Throwdown. Someone make sure Alix is attending, I am curious to see where he falls in the ranking.

How is that any different than the number next to your name in tournament results? I love having small (good) numbers next to my name all the time and it’s something everyone should aim for. A ranking system is just a different structure. Portland has never had a ranking system that lasted for more than a couple of weeks (for various reasons which are beside the point) so at least give it the benefit of the doubt and give it a chance to settle down and then I will take this sort of criticism seriously. As it stands your needlessly bashing an idea that has never been fairly tested and could potentially benefit the scene. And even if you are right, the only thing we have to lose in trying is a few hours of unstructured play time on one setup.
Ive been around too long and seen ALL of the ranking systems in portland FAIL. So for me to be a skeptic about shit that i have seen fail time and time again is pretty much well fucking warranted. Just cause you have grabbed ANOTHER JAPANESE ranking system, dosent differ from the fact, its still a ranking system. ALL ranking systems have failed here. 100% of the time. Dont take shit so hard, that you ignore the facts and talk with your feelings hurt. Good luck with this ish, but dont be afraid to hear i told you so if this shit fails by March if not earlier. Im pretty good at predicting this type of shit, just ask your boy Angel.
