Thoughts on Sanwa JLF 'Ultimate Mod'

Lizardlick sells them. Go to the joystick page and it’s an option under the Happ Comp stick. You could also just buy a few happ buttons and take the switches off.

Exactly how many microswitches do you need for this part of the mod?

um… 4

Durrr, lol I totally forgot what microswitches were. Thanks.

Ugh I’m blind -.-

How is it to switch the microswitches?

You have to take the other assembly off and put the new ones in. The gate will keep them in place. Then you have to solder them up to your PCB. I just left the JLF board in my stick and soldered the new wires to the JLF board. Here is a pic of my Cherry mod:

Is there any other way to do this other than having to solder it?

I ask because I don’t the material to solder and what not, and a complete lack of knowledge on what to do -.-

Also, this would be for the Mad Catz SE Fightstick.

Well i guess you can use quick disconnects or whatever but the SE stick doesn’t even come with a JLF so I don’t know if any of this even applies.

Well I intend to mod the SE with a new joystick and Sanwa buttons, so I’m trying to get some insight on what to buy before I go ahead and buy the parts

does anyone else have problems hitting directions with loose sticks?

as it turned out, I actually did have the post-it mod in the switches. I had taken them out so much that I forgot I actually left them in.

clearly, they have given me absolutely no problems with sticking, as they must have been in the switches for the last 4 months at least.

I’ve made changes to my ultimate mod too. Now I do not put anything in the microswitches because I’m using heat shrink tubing on the actuator. 1 layer on the top part of the actuator, and 4 layers on the bottom part

I’ve found that the thickness of the top part doesn’t allow for a mod in the switches because it causes them to stick. the 4 layers on the bottom really reduce the size of the square gate for a really nice small tight throw. Diagonal work perfectly too.

I’ve written up a guide on PALGN forums, but if anyone wants me to post it here, I’d be happy to contributes my efforts.

I was going to try out 2 LS-33 springs instead of just a JLF spring to experiment with the resistance, but haven’t had the time.

Tried it but didn’t like it much.

Just tried the double spring mod on a JLF and so far I like it. It snaps back to neutral quick, and compliments my “spazzy” hard pushes. Don’t know if I’ll stick with it though, it depends on the game. Most of the time, I prefer playing with loose sticks (no homo?)

On a somewhat unrelated note, I did the paper in microswitches mod on my competition stick just for kicks and it does feel a little better. Albeit still clunky, it feels much easier to do 360/720s (that, or maybe I just sucked doing them to begin with).

I did the mod on my friend’s new HRAP EX.
He has a new version (Jap.) which has different microswitches; they are bolted shut! Also the tabs are red, instead of orange.
I had to crack open the microswitches and superglueing them back together was clean and easy.
The mod went smoothly and I must say, without at least the double spring mod the stock JLF is absolute garbage.

after performing the mod, how does the jlf compare to the LS-32-01 in throw, deadzone etc.

I’ve never felt a moded jlf or the LS at all, but I’m thinking about doing one of these when my TE comes in because I definitely like a tighter more responsive stick. I also never knew those happ cherry microswitches were better, I think i’ll definitely get some of those instead of tying the paper mod… doesn’t sound like it would hold up well over time.

Oh, one more question. Can someone tell me the difference between the LS-32, and LS-56? I haven’t been able to find any info on this…thanks.

^^

You can make the JLF’s throw smaller than a defualt 32’s. Personally I didn’t like the feeling but it’s up to you.

And I don’t think this mod makes the JLF more ‘responsive’ it’s just easier for someone who’s not used to the JLF or Japanese sticks in general to play with a Ultimate Modded JLF than it is to play with a default JLF.

But overtime you’ll get used to a JLF and you won’t need the mods.

I see, thanks. Maybe I’ll just get a spare JLF and experiment to see what I like, and just keep the stock one as it is for easy comparison.

Can this be done well using normal printer paper or cardboard from a cereal box instead of post-its? I don’t have any post-its and don’t want to buy a pack just for this xD.

cereal box seems like it would be too thick… but the mod is just a hack, it’s not like sticky paper some some thing special about it…it’s just thin and easy to fold over. I’m sure you could use whatever you want that is thin and can be cut into small pieces easily. It’s funny that you’re willing to spend all that money on the game and a stick and not drop the 50 cents or whatever on a pack of post-it’s though, haha.
