Thor UMVC3 changes

I’m thinkin’ of splittin’ up my current team now for Ultimate. Thor/Dorm/Doom works well, but there’s some aspects of it that I feel don’t work well. I really like the prospect of Thor workin’ with a good OTG assist, and I’m really thinkin’ one of Nova’s OTG moves is gonna be it. (If it does in fact turn out to be one of Nova’s assists that is. Here’s hopin’.) And Strange’s Bolts should work pretty well for cover. So yeah, Thor/Strange/Nova might be what I’m goin’ in for. Don’t know who’s gonna be my point guy for Doom an’ Dorm though. I kinda want it to be a bad guy. Maybe Firebrand? Yeah, two demonic folks, an’ Doom? Yeah, I’m likin’ that.

As for the air-dash nerfs, I personally don’t think that’ll hurt Thor too much. From all the Ultimate videos I’ve seen of him, people keep commenting about how quick they look, and I keep seein’ them bein’ just as good as Vanilla’s so no worries there, and I’m pretty sure the “no block during air dash” thing was never an issue for Thor to begin with because he blocks after his air-dashes. So in spite of the change, Thor should still be the same. I just really, really hope they give Mighty Strike faster start up, an’ his normals quicker recovery. I’d be so happy for that.

Another thing to look at is that air dash nerf hurts every character who uses them, not just Thor. So what you loose on offense will help you on defense

Mighty Strike<Charging Star. They need to fix its startup, I can’ reactionary go through projectiles with it like I do with charging star, it shouldn’t be that way.

He doesn’t have much tools to handle zoning to be honest, charging star has a 4 frame startup after which you can blow through all forms of projectiles, and they try to go into a super, you can cancel into HCS. I feel that mighty strike should have a start up similar to CS, at worst reduce the frame advantage in the air and reduce the recovery on block on the ground. And make the current start up for it the charged version that gives him super armor.

Finally, give thor super armor on all forms of mighty smash, no need to charge. Give him faster normals with less recovery, I don’t expect them to be Captain America or even Wesker normals, just not normals that if you whiff them you eat hard damage. I think that would help thor a lot with the buffs he has alreeady, better MH’s and a better mighty spark (that hits the cast crouching).

Any good info on NYCC Thor? Just played against a wesker, it’s such an uphill battle and you’re so much more reliant on assists… I could use some motivation to keep playing him :frowning:

Mr Nitsuma just answered my question about why Thor does not throw mjolnir. “We did not think it was needed stylistically and Marvel liked the move set we made up for him and how he plays in this game.” :frowning: (Pours Odins Beer onto the Ground.)

So in other words, both Marvel and Capcom dropped the ball on Thor. They honestly also have Thor’s playing style right except for a few things honestly. But a tracking hammer throw that blows through most things like Hawkeye’s Gimlet super would’ve been nice. Whatever, I have a feeling I’ll only be using Thor when I’m playing against opponents that have heavy characters in umvc3.

I heard he is much faster all around but that remains to be seen…

So did anyone have any sort of news regarding Thor? Does he feel better?

The lack of changes to Mighty Thunder makes no sense but its good to see a lot of buffs to Thor.

Indeed. I’m liking all those changes. Thor looks like he’s gonna be doin’ some damage.

Those are all legit changes, friends of our Asgardian. Here’s a quick jot of what I think of these changes:
-Easier time attacking with longer active frames and increased range, less knockback.
-Longer and easier combos with improved hitsun buffs to Mighty Hurricane and shorten startup times for chargeable attacks.
-Mix-up potential after Mighty Punish lands (although, he already had this in vanilla when K.O.'ing with Mighty punish).
-Hopefully, S launcher will ALWAYS hit after any Mighty Hurricane (would occasionally whiff in vanilla) and s.H will be more useful in Mighty Hurricane combos with Mighty Tornado loops (if they’re still in).

Yes I am very very pleased with this overall direction seems like he got a completely needed overhaul.

Man, this is gonna be good. They kinda had to either speed Thor up or give him super armor. Plus, imagine Thor bein able to combo by himself after Mighty Punish with Mighty Thunder…

And then DHC into the beam hyper of your choice.

Then it’s settled: He’s still gonna be my main. Utterly happy to hear he got EVERYTHING we could possibly hope for in Thor.

Except mighty thunder. but I guess since Mags lost invinciblity on his shockwave, and MT damage scaling has gotten better for possible combos now…I guess it makes up the difference.

this all sounds great but what happened to thor’s new mighty spark move, or was that info false? cuz its hard to believe that they would overlook a new move while making the official change log for thor.

Still good to see thor getting some nice buffs, maybe charged H smash will finally be worth using now that its faster. I just hope that the L mighty strike buff mentioned before is true.
