That is pretty cool if those statements are true. If Mighty Strike has less recovery on the ground, here’s hoping it has quicker start up, too. I think it’s kinda silly that I get hit out of it because a dive kick that started after I did my move hits before I even move forward.
I hope this stuff is true. Thor’s ground game is one of the worst in Vanilla. It’s almost non existent. So hearing “possible” ground improvements is awesome and much needed. Like NeoArtisan mention’d before, but Thor was preditable as all hell since he HAD to be off the ground to really do something. It’s also why Mighty Punish and Mighty Thunder needed buffs. 1 blah hyper and 1 useless hyper are made worse by the fact his ground game was pathetic. Pretty bad thinking there capcom.
And…I don’t know…just thinking about it in my head and outloud, but…the God of thunder Thor…and his one hyper that actually show off this power, mighty thunder…the very power he commands over all…and it’s shit. God of thunder and the very element he commands is shit for a hyper. That boggles the mind.
I cannot count the where Mighty Punish has failed me. Not because I missed the input or I used it wrong, simply the opponent mashed buttons and knocked me out of a perfectly set up tick throw to get Thor out and bring in Cap and I knocked out of my super because only on the 4th frame is has invincibility. I’ve NEVER seen an effective command throw super that ISN’T invincible from frame 1 (and does such shit damage out of xf).
I think I speak for many when I say MP needs to be frame 1 invincible, wider hitbox, and some BS to it like grabbing opponents that are close to the ground. Mighty Thunder NEEDS to push block, I don’t understand why magneto shockwave pushes back Mighty Thunder not only DOESN’T do that, but is -72 ON BLOCK. It’s not like the super is as good as shockwave that you had to make it so bad on block. It’s the least used super. Why? Because it\s ass.
I sometimes wonder what capcom was thinking when they designed some characters like Thor… Give Thor a level 3 please, where its starts with a under 10 frame fully invincible full screen hammer throw. You may think this is BS. But unless you have BS in mvc3 you’re not going to be viable. Thor doesn’t have BS until you’re in the corner AND he hits you. Give him an answer to random supers where he doesn’t have to rely on his team mates to punish since Mighty Punish is a fairly shitty punish tool.
With that said, I feel better now
Thor is sounding a bit better for ultimate. I said a while ago they needed to make ground l mighty strike safe on block if they have done this its going to make Thor much more dangerous, Especially if the start up is faster. Mighty spark should be like it was in Beta for Vanilla… That shit was Huge I mean HUGE… :d:+:l: being faster on start up is Helpful I guess. I am still Hoping that the new mighty spark animation was just a place holder for a Hammer Toss Special. [details=Spoiler]
Make it happen Capcom! [/details] With the Increased range on Mighty Hurricane on the ground and in the Air hes only a few improvements away from being godly. I would just like Mighty Punish to be invincible on start up and cause a ground bounce and for Mighty Thunder to start and recover a bit faster and Push back on block. (Sips more Odins Beer!)
Besides Mighty Thunder required some push block, it should take some of the damage scaling away. It’s useless in a combo. No really, it is. Even doing a simple basic magic series > MT only adds like 50k damage. Useless, utterly useless. The only combo MT does decent damage is: by itself (and we know how bad it is already), and mighty smash L or M > MT. Just wrong.
So it seems Thor does not have a new move… we have all been misinformed.
I was thinking that it had to be a troll. I really wish for some more improvement for thor. If he ends up being to bad, there are too many other cool good characters now. I might just drop him.
Sadly, I can’t blame you. With hawkeye on the horizon for me, I doubt I’ll be running the big 3 of the Avengers very often. Hawkeye brings more to the team then Thor does sadly.
Hopes for a Level 3 and/or a Hammer Throw special/super
Nooo!!! Don’t turn your backs on the Odinson! Nah, it’s completely understandable, but still–character loyalty. I physically/mentally can’t drop Thor. As much time an’ effort an’ comic book readin’ I’ve put into him, I just can’t play a team without him. Even my secondary team of Spider-Man/Dante/Deadpool just doesn’t work as well with me anymore.
I’ll still use him, just won’t main him. Simply BECAUSE of character loyalty (and the joy of landing MH and MP in a match) is the only reason I haven’t dropped him yet lol. Just that he doesn’t bring much to the table right now, and that continues to be the case he’ll only hold me back when I actually wanna win. I mean when I play against top tiers and/or good players, if Steve Rogers dies early and I have to rely on Thor I usually lose because it’s hard making things happen with him.
He’s just lacking too much and doesn’t excel in anything in particular. As much as I love Chris Hemsworth/The movie(s)/Comics, if Thor only makes me lose I’m gonna place him as a sub, anti-heavy character.
Ha ha, I gotcha.
From the new gameplay footage, it looks as if Thor’s airdash recovery got faster. Or at least, it doesn’t look like he’s canceling into a normal to land faster.

Eh, I’m still not seein’ it. Looks exactly the same as in vanilla.
Hmm…I didn’t notice that before.
I love using Mighty Smash > Mighty Thunder to finish people off :D, although its not the best hyper I still love it. It would be even better if he still held Mjolnir up in the air for longer like in his reveal trailer.
With tri-dash being weak and no airdash blocking, Thor’s air options jut got worse. Now it’s shakey to even fathom Thor now.
But seeing the dash in the video…he didn’t seem too bad actually. He just can’t slide into the ground anymore…but for the love of god, IF his normals and ground game have improved enough…than maybe there still is hope.
I just don’t want to drop Thor. Way, way too much time spent on him to just drop him.
Oh and Nova looks like he’s gonna be my anchor. I want to try him NOW.
I am Definitely not going to drop Thor he just might not wind up on all my teams like he is now. Nova is definitely going to be my anchor on some team.
I’ll have to experiment when the game comes out but after today’s announcement I might make my team:
Nova, Thor, Ghost Rider
From what I’ve been hearing, Thor’s original build seemed too powerful before the game came out, so they nerfed him before MvC3. Mighty Strike was active the second you did the move, which meant that Thor would get free charges for Mighty Strike. I have a feeling that Thor will be one of the last characters to get changes before UMvC3 comes out because they already know where they would improve him and they may be waiting to gauge what it does to the rest of the cast first. The benefits of X-Factor being more uniform should also result in a faster Thor when it’s activated (maybe?). He gets less of a speed boost then anyone else I can think of.
At this point I’m waiting to play Thor/Strider/(Sentinel/Doom). I used to play Clockw0rk and Strider would benefit from Sent starting up so he could (one way or another) build meter. I’m basically looking to do that with Thor. I’m practicing the timing for Strider’s slide into Mighty Smash assist through Wolverine right now (for Strider relaunch combos). Tried it with Mighty Spark but it was inconsistent. If I can get that to work then Strider gets two projectiles to work behind. Assist wise I don’t think Strider does too much for Thor, but I feel like the Vajra kick tracking targets might be alright if you can have it timed to make Thor’s normals safer on block. Plus it may make push blocking not as big a factor to deal with. I dunno, just have to wait and see…
But he was slower in the builds before Vanilla came out as well. And I’m not quite sure what you mean about “too powerful”…as in overall too powerful or just having too much physical power? Because I remember the first footage of him, and each of his normals did like 10% or 20% by themselves. And doing a standard magic series did like 600k without using a hyper with it. I want that Thor back.
