Overseas military bases did away with the penny. The rest of the USA needs to follow suit.
If he gave a fuck about his job, he’d be more concerned about customer satisfaction than he was over a penny. This isn’t a dollar short, this isn’t a quarter short, this is ONE CENT. Now, if his boss bitches that his drawer was one penny short, he can say sorry boss, a customer was one penny short and I just took it rather than create trouble for the guy. Find me one boss that anyone in this thread has ever had that would raise an objection like that over one penny.
This guy was just straight up being a dick.
You know how much stuff you gotta order at Taco Hell to make the total come out anywhere NEAR $5? Seriously, I’m asking, I don’t eat that garbage.
The cashier probably would get a bunch of shit about the drawer being short, that’s how corporate places roll. But we should stop minting pennies and just round up/down to the nearest 5 cents. It’d make stuff a lot easier.
should just get rid of all U.S. currency except the 2 dollar bill. . . would make everyone’s lives so much easier
I worked at staples for like 3 years or so… my drawer would be over/short a few cents every once in a while… nobody cared… ever. Even management told me “eh, if it’s not a dollar or more it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s in the same ballpark” << something to that effect… maybe staples is different, i dunno =/
like i said before tho, i didn’t think the $.01 was gonna be such a big issue
he lives his life masterbating to beastiality, his mom pays for his WoW account. And his dad beats him everyday, being a dick is the only way he can get back at people since his life his a miserable pile of secrets
I see Mr krabs’ children are posting. The people who are really looking like dicks are the ones who actually think that this penny matters. It’s annoying to be denied service over an insignificant ammount of money thar was probably going to be givin to the government anyway. You all in my eyes are just trying to look like smartasses.
I did register for years (among other things) for Kinko’s. Pennies didn’t mean dick. Fun fact about pennies: due to how often they changed the metal content of them over the years, it’s virtually impossible to do a perfect weighing of pennies when doing a till weigh at the end of the day. So, short of actually hand counting each penny, by the end of the day, you could easily be one or two cents off just because someone gave you a wheatback vs. the new shield pennies. There’s no way in hell someone’s gonna get called out on a penny shortage at the end of the day unless they have their employees counting their change by hand instead of by weight, and I’d be amazed to see an employer care enough about potential penny-sized shortages to pay their employee the time it takes to hand count the shit.
Well… looks like I wont be paying the next taco bell trip in all pennies =/
might get arrested for disorderly conduct

More fast food places need these
People would care about pennies if you could put the mofos in a snack machine.
those walmart self checkout joints have a basket for change and I bring all my pennies with me there
Heads treat them like dirt and I just throw them at that basket and it counts them all up and pays for my jimmyjams
i love pennies
Sounds like you CAN pay with pennies to me.
Fuck those bitches. I love Taco Bell, but hate those who fuck you over.
PLEASE, do this. Feel free to make another thread for the justice that will happen when you do it.
not much. I went to taco bell, got two things
stuffed burrito or some shit like that and a small drink. 6+ dollars
When I worked retail, I was told that something like a penny doesn’t make a difference, and it’s more important to keep the customer happy (or rather, not piss off the customer) than to have that penny. Having a customer not want to come back and get food will cost more in the long run than that penny. Granted, there are obviously exceptions you can make, but in that situation, i would think the best judgment on the part of the cash register guy would have been to just take it and not make a huge deal over it.
And most retail places have a margin of error that they don’t worry about if the drawer is short that much. One penny will NOT make the managers go “hey wtf is going on here”.
over a penny? SMDH
Honestly, there was probably one underneath the register. You most likely could’ve found one inside of 20 seconds of looking at the floor, or they could’ve just as easily have rung it up while you went back to your car and got one out of the cup holder. If I had been there, I would’ve given you the damn penny and a Kim Jong Ill level disrespectful look to the cashier. They ain’t gonna live or die on a penny, and should’ve lost five bucks and a customer for that kind of tight-assed buisness decision. I love me some Taco Bell too, but not so much that I will deal with an asshole like that. I’m betting that isnt’ the only one in your area either. Go get one with better customer service and forget you ever saw that guy.

Random thread click, but I’ll bite. You sir, are a turd >: . I’m sure your a wonderful person in day to day life, but at this moment… turd.
Seriously though, a penny? I wouldn’t have gone back. The best thing you could have done would have been to just go somewhere else, anywhere else. This isn’t even about customer service, that guy is a grade-A douche nugget. He doesn’t want to be a penny short? Well now he’s gotta do a $5 credit, and someone is gonna confront him about why. Subtle revenge >: . I worked retail for a long time and I let a hell of alot more than a penny slide. More than enough people just leave their change behind to compensate. If I’m a few cents off? Nobody gives a damn. What a prick.
Clicking random threads always just makes me angry, I gotta stop doing that D: .
we don’t have pennies anymore but we still use 5cent pieces and i’ve been denied items being short 5cents, usually by dumb indian/asian broads. at the same store I’ve also been accused of stealing a banana (while buying $50 worth of products they claim i didn’t pay for my banana)
To all the people that are saying “he should’ve paid the full price” or whatever, you’re all missing the fucking point. He’s not complaining about the fact that he was short on money, he was stating how appalling it is that someone couldn’t show the slightest hint of common courtesy to just spare him a penny. Not a dollar, not even 15 cents. Just one penny. Pennies are parking lot litter nowadays. I’d be surprised if I couldn’t find 20 cents in pennies just lying around in my room.
It’s just an example of how selfish and thoughtless people can be. And that’s what the point of the story was. Not that he was too “high and mighty” to pay the full price for a product (which doesn’t make sense, because he ended up paying for it anyway), but the fact that there are people who will deny someone their lunch over 1/100 of a dollar.
