If I’m working a shitty job, I am there out of necessity. Not risking my employment because some dude wants to eat shitty deep fried tacos and does not have 1 cent to complete the payment. Had I that one cent in my pocket sure why not, otherwise it’s a no brainer. Why not just get fewer items, and then come back with more scrilla?
I can’t believe I live in a world where people expect to get things they can’t pay for. Even if it is a penny, the thing most people would have done is get fewer items.
yeah that’s what I was saying, and I certainly would not have gone back JUST for a penny though. I don’t know anybody that actually keeps pennys on them, but you get what you paid for. Sure, he could of gotten lesser items, but maybe he didn’t want lesser items. Maybe instead of nicklin’ and dimin’ the common man, who already has enough shitty problems in his life, you try to gain his business so he comes back and keeps your hours fresh.
I had an experience at a restaurant once where the waitress got mad because the bill was $20.01, and I gave her $23 after tip. She asked me if I had a penny… I took the $3 back, right off the black book thing and walked out.
People are dumb.
EDIT: Her actual words were: “You couldn’t have just given me an extra penny? Now I have to walk around with 99 cents in my apron?”
When the asian wife & i went to travel to Hong Kong, we were able to haggle lots nice stuff on the streets. It was quite an experience to be able to pay what i wanted to pay. If i didn’t want it, i would walk away…Then you will see that old shop lady run after you “handsome boy, ok ok you buy”
When i was at the airport, the cute asian women were all smiling & giggling at the Duty Free shop…I then tried to haggle some box of asian choclates/candy…I never seen smile turn upside down so fast. They pretty much went straight into Red China mode…Security guard came up to me, asking for my pasport & started yelling at me. Get out get out you american…
Look, I hate to break it to you like this, but you got hit with the “asshole tax”. The person made you get the penny because you said or did something wrong. Most likely you said “hey I don’t have the penny, is that ok?” You got hit with the asshole tax. If you would have said “hey I’m a penny short, take this $5 and I will go to my car to get that penny” he would have let you slide. Now if you pulled this shit on me when I worked at taco bell I would have waited till you walked away and I would have gotten the key to the register and added another penny to the total so it would have cost $5.02, and someone would have put nut hair in your taco.
Where’s the line? Next time you’re short two pennies are you going to throw another bitch fit? How about eight?
These stupid self-made rules that people make and try to enforce onto others need to stop. You pay the price exactly as it is stated, those are the agreed upon rules.
Its like when you play a fighting game and some guy throws a fit because you’re throwing/using projectiles/blocking too much.
In my eyes I see your case, and the FG idiots that do the above as one in the same- and you both equally piss me off.
The fact that you thought this was something important enough to share is even more annoying- the same as if someone posted “OMG THIS GUY ONLINE WAS A PRICK, ALL HE DID WAS THROW ALL GAME! L2P!!!”
I’d draw the line where a till shortage couldn’t be chalked up to a misweigh. Considering how varied that can be, a couple pennies off can easily be argued of a misweigh when you TOOK the till out to the register compared to the weighing after, instead of an actual shortage.
Seriously. Start a till with 30+ pre 1990 pennies, and end it with same number of 2010 pennies. You’ll look short by weight. This happens enough to where it is impossible to argue “HEY! YOU SHORTED US ONE CENT!” is a disciplinary offense.
Now, if you have a) an asshole boss that would actually give a fuck if you allowed a customer to short you a value that’s less than 1% of the purchase amount and b) was hovering over you at all times to make sure such a thing didn’t occur, I could see being anal over it, but it has absolutely nothing to do with principle at that moment and more bullshit on the employers part. If I was actually in such a situation, I would at least try to be sympathetic with the customer and downplay the whole situation, rather than try to appear authoritarian over a fucking penny.
I’d have just asked the next customer for an extra penny because, “the last asshole fucked up my drawer.” That way, I wouldn’t have to entertain questions from my boss about the discrepancy and be forced to re-count my drawer at what was supposed to be the end of my shift.
