I was just about to link that FaulrierPython one, learnt some interesting things, mainly like don’t whiff f.hp regularly, otherwise you’ll pay lol.

That elf player sure didn’t help his cause by refusing to block. Those combos aren’t anything special either. Acutally I’d say they were pretty unremarkable. When your big punish combo is fa lvl2 tc2 xx hk tatsu you need to hit the gime and pump irene maybe even do some yogging.
Wow, I had no idea Chris Hu has been using Oni.
i think you need to go back and look at those situations again, there’s nothing wrong with that combo you mentioned since he just 4 hit stunned the guy. i thought it was solid play, and he made all the right moves vs. Fuerte.
Ok I watched it again.
Round 1
-oni throws a two hitting electric fb at jumpin distance without bothering to see what the elf player is going to do. Elf can wall jump fireballs really easy.
-oni jumps in twice in a row with jab. hmmm. psycic dp lands. Now elfs in the corner. Attempts to do something other than block gets demon palmed utk.
-elf attempts to do something else gets hit by cr.lk>cr.lk>st.lp xx whiffed ex.tatsu
-oni jumps in without thinking elf attempting to jump back assuming he’s trying to wall jump out rather than play defense.
-elf backdashes in the corner oni lands half a bnb to get stun. does lvl 3 focus > tc2 xx hk.tatsu. better punish combos include lvl 3 focus cr.mp > tc2 xx ex.tatsu > <insert followup here> f+hk followed up with dp, b+mp reset into w/e, mk.demon palm, etc. btw it was three hits that comboed into stun but w/e.
-by the end of the first round oni finally gets fucked over for jumping in on elf in the corner and they swith sides but elf doesn’t block gets hit with bnb and the round ends. not being preachy cause I do this too much as well and usually get punished for it.

is it me or does oni’s play style just seem random and gimmicky ? I dunno maybe its because most of his moves are unsafe

he’s really good with hit-confirms. everything links into almost anything with him but he can’t dp safely like other shotos and unless you charge your fireballs or use meter, they’re not going very far. i think oni will evolve to be one of the top 10 characters after a year or two but right now he’s not fully explored. or i could be completely wrong and he’ll be mid-tier forever.
I think he’ll be mid-tier forever until he gets an fadc dp on block. I can understand what the designers were trying to do with the quick overhead smash/dp mix-up but it’s still bad on block so it doesn’t really work. His matchups require a lot of work and spacing and patience, so I don’t think he’ll ever be tournament viable.
