Unless they’re thick white women, then that’s a black knight
I’m not defending what Aris did, nor did I ever say I condone it. I’m simply point out that crucifying Aris and condemning him as a helpless sexist is short sighted. I also just want to point out that Super Yan needs to learn to fend for herself is all I’m saying. The world isn’t gonna do it for you.
Can we get some quotes from the situation or the video? Link even?
We need to actually SEE something in order to get this thread anywhere.
Defend herself against what? A group of slavering idiots, who have nothing else on their mind beyond de-humanizing her?
Maybe she can pull up those bootstraps and make herself immune to the casual sexism in the FGC, this can be achieved by

Thing is, the Drama comes from the competition. You can’t avoid it. Aris is a special case in the way he acts and doesn’t represent the masses who go out to compete, but it’s still raw and visceral and you can’t take that away unless you regulate everyone to play online.
I started writing this post so this link isn’t directly relevant to this situation, but it is an example of how some of us handle women in our community.
This is the first episode of Cross the Line with Andrea Rene on iPlayWinner. Go read the comments.
I can understand disliking people who have nothing to do with games at all on shows pretending they know what they are talking about, but after this series started, I found out she is a games journalist for various outlets. She really does know her stuff (about the games industry, not necessarily FGC.)
Here is a link to a podcast of her talking about how people handle girl gamers (it’s pretty disheartening):
I know this is a bunch of info, but the tl;dr point is that it seems like women are set up for failure from the very beginning.
Pretty much, It’s not pretty but it is what it is. She’s gotta deal if she wants to be a part of it. She just needs to not take it so seriously.
Fixed that for you. You’re welcome.
It didn’t really get obnoxious until Marvel 2 hit the scene
The rest…

is history
Surenio: You’re completely right. I don’t disagree, but I am seeing this from the perspective of the person whose first encounter with the FGC is this. I think we can be raw and visceral because we aren’t really edited on stream, but we don’t have to be mean spirited ie: joking about filming people in the bathroom, video above at 3:20.
Edit: I love how the marvel 2 video just cuts to the VHS blue screen at the end. Technology baby.
Capcom knew what they were doing when they hired Aris. This is exactly what they wanted…
Next weeks episode, Aris calls every black person nigger 200 times in one minute in the most insulting non brotherly way, dressed in white sheets and pointy hat, whilist hanging nooses from the rafters and burning crosses on every black persons arcade stick. Will he succeed in making some one a slave to pick his cotton? Will he get bionic armed in the face? Stay tuned next week kids…
I’m not sure, but I think you might be right MikeBreezy. I used to think I was one of those people that were too good to get caught up in reality shows and their drama, yet here I am. Sigh.
Video games are not meant to be that serious. Reality shows are dumb.
By forcing the former to be oh soooo serious and combining it with the latter, you get the exact embodiment of this ridiculous ‘pro gaming’ and ‘e-sport’ culture that SRK is dwelling in today.
Some people call that ‘hype’. I call it stupidity.
Long post up ahead.
For the sake of recording my thinking process of the dude in question’s behavior I’m going to write my thoughts down along side the video.
First remark about cage match mud wrestling: Kinda funny, she laughed so it seems fine.
How does she smell?: Kinda weird, but she laughs again so whatever.
Miranda: Get away!: I can’t tell if she’s talking about the guy or the game honestly. The more footage there is of them in that second window the easier the distinction would be to make.
Mirada, I wanna know your bra size: She crosses her arms, but she still laughs, she also squeels, which to me means she thinks it’s even funnier. I can see how others would construe the squeeling as, say, defensive or nervous though.
Just tell him no: Ok, this is the second time she’s told him no.
She then tells him that she isn’t going to tell him if he guesses it.
Are we a team or not?: She laughs again, but I’m getting the feeling by now that if she wasn’t doing it just to keep it from being less awkward that she is most certainly doing it now.
Some joke about having her back:
Miranda: So ridiculous!
Number one or two? Chad needs to know this: She laughs again.
We got cameras in there: Hmmm, really awkward and not really my sense of humor, but whatever. Like, I can see how someone would make that joke to their dude or dudes, but to actually say it out loud to the girl is just dumb honestly.
You’re creepin’ her out dude, leave that to me.: Ok, so it’s obvious he knows what he’s doing, so one could argue that it’s just a joke. It could also mean he’s just being persistent.
Blah blah, something in the chat about registering names to your body. He’s exacerbating the situation further, he didn’t HAVE to tell her about the stream monsters, but did. She leans forward and raises her hand to her face. In my experience this is either a genuine show of relief in comedy, or a defensive position since she is kind of “collecting herself” so to speak because of her crunching together. I think if she really thought it was funny she would have craned her neck back and laughed at the ceiling, but I’m no master of body language or human behavior. I’m just putting it out there.
At this point she yells something indecipherable to me, she is clearly not comfortable at this point.
She leaves and tries to whisper something into his mike, she messes up and laughs.
“I’m not gunna say it again!”
“You can’t be afraid of being mean!”
Other random things and a few less racy jokes.
If you hook me up with this spying stuff I’ll hook you up with some Miranda: What caught my attention is the asian dude that does not look happy, not sure if that’s something separate or not. Uncomfortable or otherwise.
I’m really uncomfortable about my phone being on the table right now. People could take it and look at my stuff. Crack the combination to the bra joke, she laughs again, but says “What the Hell?”
Thigh jokes, smell that seat for the chat, etc…
More checking of Miranda’s thighs: Miranda says, “Oh my God.” No laugh.
At this point all I can think of is that he should be smarter than to do this, yeah I’m sure he talks shit on guys all the time, but he has to know that this is inappropriate. Of course shit-talking is inappropriate, but he knows what he’s doing, for sure. It’s not like he just makes a few once and awhile either, it’s basically the entire time. It might be different if it were just a few chirps here and there, but it is the basis of the conversation. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure no one else has been speaking as much as him, so he’s in control of the situation. It’s awkward and everyone else knows it.
Miranda is your boyfriend watching?: Maybe.: Personally, I would be pissed if I heard this, but I’m just as possessive as the next male or female.
Loser takes their shirt off: Hell no. Miranda, I’m the couch here.: Wow, a seriously nervous laugh from Miranda.
“I’m tryin’ to play here, you’re messin’ me up.” “You need to be able to focus when people are heckling you!” “That’s fine but, this is creepy!” “You need to be able to play when people are harassing you.”: Probably the only valid point he makes in the whole video, but it’s more than likely he’s just justifying his behavior.
“Thanks for the harassment.” “Take off your shirt.”: Awkward silence.
Some lame skirt shit.
“Yeah, everyone in the chat is tellin’ me to stop talkin’ about you, sure.” Miranda: “Yeah!”: She wants him to stop talking about her.
“Make her a skirt out of my beard?”: She laughs convincingly. But still says, “No!”
I think they’re talking about her boyfreind below.
“He plays fighting games, he knows how people are.” “I hope he’s ok with (indecipherable)
“What is he gunna do?” No, I mean, like, it’s not gunna get to him, it’s not gunna bother him.”
“You’ll be alright, you’ll be alright Miranda.”: He seems to be reassuring her. But I’m not sure if actually is showing he’s joking, or merely extending the joke, if you catch my drift.
“The next time you make a mistake like that, I’m gunna smell you…real close too.” “I’munna do it for your boyfreind.”
“Shoutouts to your boyfreind.” Miranda: “Don’t say that.”
When he says “real close” it sounds like could be referring to her breasts or genitalia specifically. He could also just mean literally closer than before.
“What’s his name, I wanna say his name when I’m smelling you.”
Someone says Nathan.
“You’re girlfriend smells good Nathan.” “You’re a lucky man.”
“Quit complaining Miranda, you’re about to get smelled.”
I actually just noticed at 12:11 he was standing by her, if he was doing it before I didn’t notice.
More lame shit.
At the end he says, “Hopefully she’s crying in the restroom.”
As far as I saw he never touched her, but I didn’t notice he was standing near her until near the end of the video.
What he did was for sure inappropriate. If we could get the thoughts of the actual people involved and know how well or long they’ve known each other it would certainly give us more perspective on the situation. He obviously went to far, and it was obviously awkward for most everyone involved.
It is lame that people have to behave like this just because a female is around.
Is the OP Miranda? Sorry if I’m behind.
I’ll admit I didn’t watch a lot of the tekken stream, but when Aris was talking to his team, I never saw him harass anyone but Miranda. He made a few jokes here and there sure, but Miranda was getting the full force of it. Aris was giving her more shit than I’ve ever seen Aris give to anyone. Hell, at one point he threatened to burn her jeans so she could only wear leggings for the remainder of the competition and for what, to get a few extra stream monsters watching? Whether or not you know Aris isn’t the issue here, it’s about his actions on stream and how he represented the tekken community and the greater FGC. He’s not treating her with respect, and for any female watching this it’s discouraging and scary.
This, if anything we should probably be mostly offended at the reinforcement of the stereotype that gamers don’t know how to act around women. o_O
Yeah instead of the horrible treatment of a woman. It is after all the male gamer, who is the real victim in all of this.
Whoops lol, forgot to use the [sarcasm][/sarcasm] tags, my bad
