This is why we can't have nice things

This is the internet, while it probably wouldn’t have been a majority view, I guarantee you that *someone *would have shit on her for it, lol.

I don’t get all this stuff lol. Whenever you enter a new community (especially a competitive one) you keep your head down and try to win respect through skill. I’m an 09ner myself but all this whining strikes me as soft.

I don’t care if Jago and Mike Ross’ beef is real or not, but I care if they match is staged. Since it apparently wasn’t it’s all good I guess.

I also don’t know what people expected from Aris. Anyone who’s watched anything he’s been on knows exactly what he’s like. If you don’t like his behavior, say something. If you play it off as OK and go on stream to talk about Korean dicks and stuff, you get what you get. I think Miranda calling it quits is a slap in the face of people like Sherry who keep their heads down and work to get better and earn their respect.

Never change FGC <3

Bullshit. First off, I highly doubt Aris would have treated any dude on the show like a piece of meat. I highly doubt he knows how. Second, when someone actually has a problem with being treated subhuman in public, it’s their fault for not “figuring out what he’s about”? There’s a word for that. It’s called victim blaming, and it’s shit like this that could easily be the reason Superyan never said anything before.

Wow, it’s like no one in the FGC ever took a class in women’s studies or human sexuality.

I agree that I think no one would have said anything bad about her if she told him to stop to begin with, but regardless of gender and regardless if that is our “charm” harassment is harassment. If I were to offhandedly say “left handed people are all stupid all be killed” and then go out and harass them about it, then it’s still wrong if it bothers them. If that analogy doesn’t make sense to you, then replace left handed people with any other demographic or stereotype in the book.

Also, because I came from another community shreds my credibility? Is that suppose to mean that anyone else that has had any other previous hobbies aren’t allowed to participate within the community? Does it mean that because I don’t hold the “I was here before Street Fighter 4” Card that I can’t possibly have any good arguments? Because I’m sure anyone else could pull that card on you phenomenalone, that is of course unless you invented fighting games as well as this entire community. Then in that case I redact my statement and apologize for participating.

Edit:
Chaoslimits: Yeah, I think I’m in agreeance with you, I just care about the competitive nature and I want it to be an honest fight.

ph00tbag: Exactly. I’m sure anyone on the other side of the argument has been harassed before and didn’t like it either. I hope people can understand that I’m coming from a human rights standpoint and not just women’s rights or any other demographic.

Again, Aris’ wording is garbage this is true but he still gets his main point across when he mentions not wanting the fgc to become some politically correct, unhype, fandom based bullshit community like sc2(nothing against them, just they hella boring and think hype is drawing signs or getting autographs to boast about on facebook). Him saying it wouldn’t be the fighting game community without sexual harassment(bear in mind everyone is joyfully ignoring the fact that his “sexual harassment” applies to both genders) and that this is America is him saying he enjoys his right to free speech and to talk shit to any and everyone in anyway he pleases. He means no harm and isn’t a terrible person like the internet is making him out to be. Aris just says with 90% of you people think to yourselves.

But I’m ignorantly assuming people on the internet have any form of critical/rational thought and aren’t gonna cling on some words out of context and have a marathon with it.

No wonder there is so few female gamers with idiots like Aris in the FGC.

Lots o’ victim blaming in this thread.

Bullshit, First off it’s on Superyan to stick up for herself from the fucking beginning instead of keeping her uncomfortable feelings to herself. It’s also on Superyan for not bothering to figure what Aris is about. Does she have to like him? Hell no, but you’re on a show and you do what you have to do. No one needs to do this for you like you think they should have. No one needed to be Superyan’s white knight in shinning armor and defend her from Aris, she should have taken him aside and told him how she felt from the fucking beginning which she didn’t. And no telling Aris to fuck off on stream is not the same. You highly doubt Aris would have treated dudes as bad? Then you don’t know a dam thing about Aris which means everything you just said means nothing. Fuck your class too, lmfao bringing that up as some sort of credentials.

Remove Aris from the community, and people like him who talk shit in public and don’t give a fuck, and there would STILL be less women in the community for you to have lucid dreams about.

I agree Surenio, I think we shouldn’t change into SC2 (I do personally think its boring, but I respect it) and to some aspect that style of talking is a part of our community but once it actually bothers someone is when it becomes a problem. Now that I think about it, I really doubt he wanted to cause her actual distress, however his wording was pretty lousy. Maybe sexual “jesting?” I have no idea. Oh and to just to check, phenomenalone are you okay with that? Or should I just crawl back to whatever competitive community I came from because I enjoyed it in the past? /salt.

Edit: Also, I think the dynamics would have been much different if she said something up front. However, some people are just not like that. Some people are just non confrontational and don’t want to come off as someone who is a nuisance. And she probably should have told him off stream, I don’t know if she tried or not. But no one researches every aspect of every encounter they have in life, it could have been just an honest mistake of her not knowing what she was like. I personally that he came off as more politically correct leading up to Cross Assault which changed my perspective of him from negative to positive up until yesterday.

Respect runs both ways and fuck that keep your head down shit. That sounds soft fuck all the other drama but dude was wrong and folks scared to speak out on it because he is a figure head in the community. Not saying that you are but folks need to stop being fans and start taking these cats to task. Just because you joined a forum in 09 or 01 does not mean you have to take shit from anybody. This a game not a way of life you will grow out of this and move on to better things. I played during that arcade days and yes there was shit talk but you did that mostly among friends and I can bet if somebody got offended you got dealt with.

This is a vulgar community, there’s no qualms about that. No one is gonna walk around trying to kill you but if you aren’t prepared to get shit talk and would rather not deal with it then there are other communities you can go into that are different. Don’t gotta change was wasn’t broke. That’s the crux of it tho, fgc and the others are such polar opposites, so when the others try to take some of the fgc pie you have problems and people like Jared come into existance and assholes like SirScoots can’t stfu about Jwong working a real job like a functioning member of society.

Cool bro, it’s okay if you want to defend an inherently male circlejerk of a trainwreck, that we all witnessed today. Maybe once you’ve finished doing that, you can go back to uploading pictures of anatomically incorrect hyper-sexualised females, whilst pretending that this passive-aggressive form of shunning female gamers is okay because hey being creepy is cool (as long as it aint done to me brah you see) and she should totally have stood her ground in a male-dominated group, which she knew raising the issue of misogyny would lead to awkward glares and silence.

And you can write a bunch of bullshit thinking you’re somehow smart. Superyan isn’t new to this community, she’s been for what 6 years? She should have stood her ground, fuck you for thinking she shouldn’t have. There’s much worse shit that could happen to her, not a good thing to know she’s gonna bend over backwards to it and pray her knights come galloping.

I am telling you that people will. People will latch on to the negative before they will the positive. I don’t know this dude personally and from what I heard this is just the way he is. But just offending people to offend people is not cool. I have said it myself and heard a bunch of other folks say it we need to stop being fans and being competitors. Don’t put these cats on a pedestal. You don’t need sexual harassment at all in my opinion, there are other things to joke about with folks of both gender. Dude needs to be a bit more creative.

Dpendleton: I agree, just because you’ve been around longer doesn’t mean you can’t be wrong. And there are plenty of other people who we can make fun of. Like old people who don’t understand the internet or like Fox News or something like that.

Surenio: I get where you’re coming from, but where would you like to see the FGC go in the next few years? I think a lot of people would say they would like it to get bigger, and I think maybe its necessary to tone down the jump down your throat kind of style. The reason why we’re here, at least why I’m here, is because I love the games. The people are great, but the games and the competition not the drama are the best parts. The Esports people are trying to fit us into a mold that we just can’t fit into, we have to come into it on our own but the things I just said is a sure sign of growing pains I guess.

Ah yes, those 6 years of facing misogyny is okay because

I’m not actually sure you know what it’s like to “disagree” with a group and the peer pressure that come along with it.

Like what? Seriously, is that your defence? You might as well have said: “Oh well it wasn’t that bad, alot worse could have occured at least he didn’t rape her”, fuck you for defending and enabling this misogny Surenio.

When did pointing out actual misogyny count as white-knighting?

Saying what Aris did is free speech at work is kind of like running around yelling “I’M AN IDIOT! LOOK AT ME! LOOK!” Sexual harassment isn’t one of your protected rights. That being said, taking away shit talking from the scene would make it pretty dull. There are just some boundaries you shouldn’t cross.

Spoiler

Because women can’t handle being treated equally.

you do realize that evo and other tournies is part of E-Sports, right?..

I’m guessing this is this generation’s Dark Prince argument

good job 09’ers. we’ve come a long way

Is a white knight someone who likes women? Help me out here guys, I’m old and confused. :coffee:

A white knight is someone who doesn’t defend the FGC’s honor.
