"This is way too easy." Ibuki Unblockables

So I was having fun in the lab, trying to work on the Gief matchup because I am tired of losing to Aquasilk at every Big Two I enter ^^.

While experimenting I found… an unblockalol!

The setup:
Neckbreaker - step back - st.MP - sj.MK

The OS:
Preferably Raida. Neckbreaker catches everything but his forward dash, Raida catches everything

Who does it works against?
Another annoying matchup: **RUFUS! **However, it loses to his EX Snake Strike

TEH VIDEO PLS!!!

There you go, recorded and uploaded by yours truly:

Anything else?
I was kinda motivated so I tested this setup on the entire cast. Here is the extended version of what you need to know:

[details=Spoiler]Zangief: Unblockable. Safe. OS Raida. Loses to delayed lariat
Ryu: Crossup. Reversal whiff
Ken: Crossup. Loses to LP shoryu
Honda: whiffs if he blocks crossup
Ibuki: Crossup, can’t os VS forward dash
Makoto: crossup but whiffs if she blocks normal
Dudley: Crossup. Safe.
Seth: regular. Loses to EX Hyakuretsukyaku
Gouken: Crossup
Akuma: Crossup. Reversal whiff.
Gen: Crossup but whiffs if normal
Dan: Crossup
Sakura: Crossup
Oni: Crossup
Yang: Crossup
Hakan: Crossup. Loses to U2
Guy: Crossup. Loses to EX Tatsu
Cody: Crossup.
Dee Jay: Blockable (he can block both sides). If he blocks regular, he blocks but Ibuki lands on the other side
Cammy: Crossup. Safe. OS Neckbreaked loses to forward dash
Sagat: Regular. He can forward dash out of it
Bison: Crossup
Viper: Crossup, loses to EX seismo cancel
Abel: Crossup
Dhalsim: Crossup, whiffs if he blocks normal
Chun-Li: Crossup, trades with EX SBK
Juri: Crossup
Yun: Crossup but whiffs if he blocks crossup
Evil Ryu: Crossup
Guile: Crossup
Blanka: Crossup; EX upball whiffs
Rufus: UNBLOCKABLE! Looses to EX snake strike
El Fuerte: Crossup but whiffs if he blocks regular
Vega: Crossup
Balrog: Crossup, EX dash straight gets him out
Fei Long: Crossup, LP Rekka or forward dash gets him out
T.Hawk: Regular, Ibuki lands on the same side
Adon: Crossup
Rose: Crossup, loses to EX Soul Throw[/details]

TLDR: Unblockable on Gief, Rufus (loses to EX Snake Strike; “safe” crossup against most of the cast, Can be useful against Blanka because it lets EX upball whiff

Have fun!

Bottom notes:

  • I think there are two different timings to do this unblockable. I could do it once so as to let backdashes whiff and catch them with neckbreaker (the recorded one just hits during the backdash and lets you juggle your opponent). Maybe the different version works on different characters but… I’ll try later.
  • I’m pretty sure there are a whole lot of unblockalol/fake crossups we can find using the neckbreaker - step back - whiff something - sj. MK (just like Mingo’s unblockable vs Seth).
For example against Gief, neckbreaker - step back - st.LP - sj.MK is a fake crossup (he blocks regular but Ibuki lands on the other side) anywhere on the screen.

Does it cross up by default on Gief and/or Rufus? Knowing this would help see if we’re doing it correctly in the training room.

It crosses up by default on Gief. If you hit his neck, you probably missed it, the default animation hits him somewhere at the middle of his back.
Don’t know about Rufus though since I recorded the setup on Gief and tried to play it vs all the cast

Did you record the video in 60fps? If so, can you link the original video?

Did you try reversal PPP Lariat? (in the video you failed the input and basically did nothing)
What about FA dash/backdash? Wakeup forward dash?

Mmm I have to check if the Avermedia Game Capture HD records in 60fps.

Yes, reversal PPP lariat is beaten by the setup (although yeah I missed it on the recorded one -_- )
FA dash = you can reaction sweep it
Wakeup forward dash: Does not work for rufus (you hit him because he does not crouch during his forward dash). Zangief’s forward dash gets him out if you used OS Neckbreaker; but will be caught by an OS Raida.

So far the only way out for Gief is a delayed PPP Lariat, I could only make it trade with Ibuki’s j.MK, not sure he can just beat the j.MK clean.
Rufus can get out with EX Snake Strike, so if he does not have EX, it should be good for you

Is it because Raida is faster or because Neckbreaker went the wrong way or ?

What happens if Gief/Rufus wakeup jump? What about Gief/Rufus U2?

Raida is faster: Zangief’s forward dash or EX green hand is not fast enough to get out of Raida’s hitbox, while neckbreaker has to start sliding to catch him

I couldn’t do any jump nor Gief’s Ultra 2. My guess is that you land early enough to prevent Zangief from doing U2.

Haven’t tried with Rufus’ U2 though but… who picks U2 as Rufus? ^^

What about option select sweep instead?

The thing I’m looking for when you try to wakeup jump is if you stay grounded (which means setup is meaty within 4-6 frames, depending on Gief or Rufus or both), or if they get reset in the air.

Rufuses who think they can ultra out of vortex (generally true).

scary

Let me have fun in those Russian Skies pls!

Great Protector of Russian Skies should have no fear of trollBuki.

Cammy unblockable vs Ibuki:
back throw , whiff cr.MK , j.LK

From the looks of it, seems like there’s actually a tiny pause between the back throw and whiff cr.MK. Might be able to FA dash forward out? Idk as I didn’t test anything.

You can’t FA dash out of it, you can just command dash to get out for free (LK one recovers in time for any of her OS: spiral arrow or U1/Super are blocked, Cannon Spike whiffs, HK cd is caught by OS U1)

Is there a secondary place to find all these unblockables?
After the SRK revamp, a lot of shit is fucked up and links to other posts no longer work.
If there was a google doc or something, that’d be great. If anyone has an answer, let me know here or in PM or something.

Wow. I should come here more often, this is insane o_o

So I was testing the j.HP crossup setup on **Sagat **(does anybody else do any testing around here?) on the rest of the cast. It is EX Neckbreaker , MK cd , wait ~3f , j.HP seen here

And it is **noncrossup **(not really noteworthy, but for recordkeeping) on Gouken,Seth,Dudley,Hakan,Guy,Cody,Deejay,Abel,Chun,Juri,Guile,Gief,Rufus,Elf,Claw,Boxer,Fei,THawk,Rose.
**Whiff **on everyone else, except…

Unblockable on Gen!

Gen can escape by crouching, jumping, backdashing or forward dashing. DPs whiff, Super and delayed Super whiff. If Gen blocks regular and the unblockable j.HP crosses up, you cannot do j.HP xx f+MK target combo (whiffs). Probably best to option select sweep.

While not unblockable on most of the cast, the jumpin is still really ambiguous, and with minimal adjustments you can easily do crossup j.LK or j.MK, and a noncrossup j.HP, for possibly Ibuki’s only USF4 “vortex” setup.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Ibuki has some more unblockables off EX Neckbreaker with something like
EX Neckbreaker , forward dash , walk forward X frames , jumpin

And it would be pretty easy to do as the dash can be mashed and automatic walk forward timing by holding forward during the dash. Only timing needed would be when to jump.

Following the same idea, I was recently testing setups after an air throw (just against Cammy for now since I really often use air throw as an anti-air).
Forward dash - wait just a little bit - jump LK/MK: crossup, beats reversal DP
Forward dash - wait a bit more - jump LK/MK: non-crossup, beats reversal DP.

I was wondering if there was an unblockable chance in there. I might try more, with command dashes for example

Ibuki’s air throw is not normalized like Guile/Elf air throws. The frame advantage you get will differ depending on what time during Ibuki’s jump arc you air throw your opponent.

Because while Guile and Elf drop to the ground with the opponent, Ibuki throws herself back into the air after a certain number of frames, and then she still has the drop to the ground, which would vary depending on the height at which the throw connected?

I guess all setups have to be adjusted manually if you want to pressure after?
