This is how you DON'T play Street Fighter (aka LOL DSP)

He’s quite aware, and ironically this vid did him even more harm than good, his subs and viewership are steadily declining. I’d hardly call it a waste of time either since the vids clowning on him have triple the view count than his actual vids, the shit is comedy gold.

but unwittingly by bashing him you guys are just creating free publicity for him, whether you think its good or bad it is still publicity. Just typing dsp sf4 on google will pop out a gazillion pages talking about him and that drives users to his youtube and some will surely subscribe. but oh well if you guys want to keep on bashing him go on ahead but just know whenever you type ‘DSP’ you are not only helping him rank higher on google you are sending in subscribers to his channel. Thanks my take on the issue.

Yeah people finding out, what kind of an asshole he is, helps him a lot, sure.
This dude isn´t someone, you would like to have to have as a friend, just saying.

If anything Phil would be “that guy” in a group of friends. You know, the one who everyone mercilessly rips on and does the dirty work and fetches everyone food, and he laughs and shrugs it off just happy to be part of a group.

Someone re-uploaded this finally:

The idea that “there is no such thing as bad publicity” is nonsense. It only applies if you’re in a field or industry that is absolutely 100% vital and cannot be ignored, and any practitioner in that area is acceptable no matter the quality of their work or themselves as a person. Only then does dominating ‘mindshare’ through being obnoxious or outright mean work. It’s true that such stunts can bring a short-term increase in public awareness and viewer/readership, but in the long-term it hurts you. Think of it as ‘public relations caffeine’, there’s always that crash after the initial rush.

Fortunately for us, gaming is not such a field. You do not have to watch someone play Metal Gear or Street Fighter to live. You don’t have to put up with their insults and outlandish behavior, because there are hundreds to thousands of other people who are much more pleasant, provide the ‘service’ in question at an equal or higher quality, and are aware you’ll leave if you keep mocking them. The short-term publicity from such behavior then becomes a long-term stigma, and those are very hard to overcome even if you start doing good work later and improve your attitude.

Gain enough of a stigma, and you’ll have trouble surviving on the remnants of what was once a huge audience. Readers/viewers remember who consistently wrongs them and they remember who is trying to do things the right way. They’ll forgive a mistake if you own up to it and do so in a sincere, ‘non-corporate-speak’ way. Yet they’ll also carry a grudge if you act superior to them; they’re coming to you for advice and entertainment (meaning you already have their respect), not to be treated like they’re in the presence of some modern day god-king who looks down on everyone else.

dsp could stand to learn this, and I hope he does. His technical presentation is not bad; most of his equipment works right, puts out acceptable video quality, and so on. If he turns himself around then he could use that foundation to be a good broadcaster. As he currently is, however… he deserves much of the ridicule he’s getting.

how comes nobody understands thats how this guy makes money

Personally, the minuscule amount of money DSP gets from me watching his videos is whatever. He can have some pennies while I laugh at him.

If you have adblocker then his ad revenue is cut off from you laughing at him.

Not only that, a lot of people blasting him have helpfully made sure their commentaries include his original footage… and watching it on the other person’s channel does not send money his way as far as I know? Regardless, any brief surge in views from people’s morbid curiosity quickly works out to a net loss as those people not only come back… but people who were previously regular viewers become disgusted and leave. Being monstrous toward the viewers, or offensively stupid, or intentionally provoking them is “PR caffeine”, to repeat that bit.

I used to watch dsp occasionally, but his behavior has just gotten worse and worse over time. At this point, I just watch highlight reels (lowlights?) others compile about him… then I sigh, laugh, and wonder how he functions in normal society. Probably not very well.

Same here, I mainly watch the highlight vids done by other people for laughs. Hell, even that 2 hour rant about him crying about being hated on was thrown up by someone else so he didn’t the views. I don’t really care if loses money or not, if anything I hope he squeaks by so the joke vids continue to be made. I guess I have a morbid curiosity as well as to what will happen ultimately much like someone watching a reality show.

Oh boy. Just got done watching a few other videos in this thread, and have come to a terrifying realization: dsp subscribes to the Family Guy school of humor. You know it quite well, the style where the honestly good jokes are weighed against several instances of taking a funny idea and dragging it out way too long… or taking a bad idea and continuing to run with it.

It’s kind of sad, really. dsp has the potential to be consistently funny if he would learn to end a joke after delivering it instead of continuing to pound the punchline. There were a few things in those vids where I legitimately smiled or laughed at first, then became annoyed when he kept going; I got the humor a good 15-30 seconds ago, buddy. Please move on.

and he somehow continues to average 100,000 + Youtube Searches and 27000+ on google searches per month. If only you guys actually know how much you are helping him grow.

Go away Panda Lee.

LMAO at you trying to find something good to say about this guy.

In any case I don’t think that vids that laugh at DSP help DSP as much as they encourage the people who make these comedy vids to make more, which is what really matters.

I’ll try to make this clear one final time. As far as I can tell, nobody on this forum gives two flying fucks wether or not he get’s more views or not. All I care about is the comedy that is being generated as a byproduct of his actual work. If anything I want him to continue so the joke videos don’t stop. So please stop with the goddamn white knighting as it’s actually off topic in this particular thread.

Hahaha, white knight? Ok boss if you say so. Have fun! I guess Ying and Yang is important. This thread is serving a purpose so I wouldn’t dream of adding salt to it. And don’t be jealous of the knight

Yeah… you may be right. Still, I’d prefer he straighten himself out. Hear me out; he has the tiniest spark of potential to be good at this stuff. We’re talking an incredibly small chance and I don’t think he’ll ever realize it, but I can sure hope he does. If he were to get a little training to fix the worst of his vocal inflections (his laugh quickly becomes annoying, as is the tone some of his protests are made in), his voice would actually be okay for broadcasting. If he’d make a few adjustments to his technical setup (moving to direct-capture might be a good idea at this point. Has he done so? Most of the videos I’ve seen lately suggest otherwise), it would be easy to make his videos look much better. He could also stop throwing controllers and other hardware around, a habit I only now discovered he has. A little study on comedy would help him too. His jokes fall into roughly two categories: Ones that blatantly suck for whatever reason… and ones that would have worked if he had stopped after the punchline. Humming along with the game’s music for a few seconds and working silly lyrics into them would work if he had made one quip and then stopped. Making fun of a stereotyped character would have worked if he pointed out the flaw just once or twice instead of constantly hammering it. As it is, at some point I’m left going “Alright, I get the joke! Please move on!”

Worst of all, he seems like a miserable person. He seems unhappy (no surprise for someone calling themselves the “King of Hate”) and this carries over to his videos. He’s clearly not having fun, so I’m not having good-natured fun either. The fun I’m having is one of laughing at a pathetic person who airs his misery for the whole world to see. Sure, “oh my goodness… just how awful can he possibly be at this!?” is funny, but I’d enjoy him a whole lot more if he just cleaned up his act. He’s old enough that I would reasonably expect him to have a diverse background in good, fun games to show off to people. I’d expect him to do so with at least a basic amount of skill and a decent attitude. He simply doesn’t. As it is, aside from the occasional visit to watch ‘lowlight’ videos of dsp… I don’t bother with him all that much anymore. He has only gotten worse with time, so I’d rather watch someone else when I’ve got idle time to kill and just want to be entertained.

There are certainly a lot of better choices out there, including your YouTube channels. Zangitroll is pretty funny, and the BlazBlue/Pokemon joke was worth a chuckle too. The match vids and tutorials you post tend to be interesting, helpful, or hilarious (in a good way). Since I haven’t said it before, please let me do so now: Thank you. I enjoy a lot of your videos!

But he gained popularity FOR sucking and FOR having a 12 y/o mentality. If he ever improved to be a functioning grown person who doesn’t suck at videogames, he’d be a boring normal dude and people won’t have a reason to watch his vids. Flaws in a character make for more interesting entertainment.

Thanks but for the sake of this topic, people don’t want seemingly “better choices”, they like DSP’s content for the annoying immature loser that he is. That’s his schtick and he’s doing it well.

white knight is quickly becoming a my most hated term…
