Tataki: That’s a fair point, and one I can’t really argue against; it seems like we have differing tastes on that sort of thing. Well, somewhat different at least; I tune in to the lowlight compilations like many others here have. Watching him screw up at GTA, MGS, etc. is pretty funny, after all.
Also saw several of his sincere fans (or I assume they were sincere, as their behavior wasn’t over the top enough to be obvious trolling) drop by the WNF stream last night. This quickly reminded me to just hide the chat.
The thing that has surprised me most about this thread is how many people weren’t familiar with him beforehand. I figured just about everyone who frequented this site would be vaguely familiar with his content.

You’d be surprised. Hop onto Ranked Match play for any fighting game near its release date, when the population still includes less-than-devoted players. You’ll see people who keep doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. I’m entirely willing to believe a person can ‘be this stupid’ on a lot of things.
To be fair, near the release date of games it takes a while to understand how everything works. 2-3 matches doing the same thing over and over will show why it didn’t work.
But those people with 7000+ matches 2 or 3 years after the release date having no clue what they’re doing? They are pretty stupid.

Okay, yeah. I could have stood to be more specific. Suffice to say though, dsp borders on the definitions most of us are using. The only reason he doesn’t truly fit it is you occasionally see him do good stuff, leaving one to wonder why he doesn’t play that way more consistently and instead insists “OH NOES IT’S LAG THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO” to things he had plenty of options against. Maybe no guaranteed options, but ones he could realistically attempt in all but the most horrific lag and had an above-0% chance of working.
I’m tempted to write up a drinking game about the guy, but this would probably expose me to charges ranging from manslaughter to negligent homicide. Or else cause us to deplete the world’s liquor reserves sort of like that “Russia runs out of vodka celebrating Germany’s surrender” incident from WW2… just on a larger scale.

From what I gather, he was genuinely good at ST judging from his offline tournament footage. I think his downfall was carrying that mindset to online fighting games that he thought he’d automatically be good at due to his past ST success. As far as him sucking in every other genre, no idea other than he’s just terrible. You would think that after so many years of playing games, then playing even more as your full time job, one would pick up on general concepts these types of games clearly embrace. Like you, I can’t fully accept someone can be this stupid as I watch him ignore clearly lit on screen instructions, using a pistol as a sniper rifle, driving in the opposite direction in racing games, etc. I first thought it was just him rushing through these games to get to the next one as quickly as possible in order to make more money, but even so, the absence of common sense and inability to adapt to simple things amazes me.
HE COULDN’T EVEN SEE THE GOD DAMN STAIRCASE THAT THE GAME MADE FOR HIM IN CATHERINE!!!
sorry, after playing that game and watching him play, it’s just…infuriating cause most of the puzzles have straightforward answers (it’s almost always a staircase and 3/4 times, they give it to you)
