This Is All For Killing!: The M.O.D.O.K Combo Thread

Awesome man, I’m going to follow up with a tutorial then. If anyone has any prominent points for the tutorial let me know. We MODOKS will not be ignored!

awesome, guys! Cant wait to see both works!

Uploading now… It’s freakin’ huge (1.7gigs). Gonna take a while.

Not MODOK related but holy crap is editing/encoding a pain in the arse sometimes… Takes more than 30 mins to encode and I made like 3 duds before getting one that wasn’t fucked up somehow.

Now I remember why I don’t normally mess around with high def clips more than a minute long. :looney:

what capture card do you use and what editing software? I capture of the Hauppauge HD PVR but i dont even render/edit video because my computer can’t handle editing high def clips… or at least it seems that way in sony vegas.

EDIT: on topic of combos, i’ve been trying doom beam and the shit is so good. I do like it way more than I like missiles… Been using modok/doom (missile)/sent (drones) and just tried out that modok /doom (beam)/haggar (lariat) team. for an execution inept person like myself, beam is just so good at extending combos. trying to figure a way to extend ending parts of combos with lariat.
At the end of a combo after a hard knockdown i do slime + lariat, fly j S, L cube.
from here, if I haven’t already used the wall bounce, what options do i have?

So far i’ve been doing S, into sj S or just putting out a barrier and going for mixup. jamming bomb can’t be comboed at that point in the combo, is it possible to connect a f+H off the lariat into my jamming bomb? I can’t seem to do it at that point.

Voila!

First, you’ll notice that my favorite MODOK colour is the new purple one. :stuck_out_tongue:

The voice is not mine, it’s a text-to-speech thing I found online. It’s a English voice, so there’s an accent there, but I think it’s pretty clear? I especially liked how it says “Leftenant” (that wasn’t my idea!) so I had to put it in there. lol

The Basic Solo section is pretty straightforward… It turns out that you can get 46 extra mashed hits during Killer Illumination, each doing 2,000 damage, for a total of 392,000 damage (that’s a lot!!)

The loop section is also pretty straightforward… I started with throws to really scale the damage. For the midscreen loop, against certain characters the first HBR rep will actually crossup the opponent (Wolvie is not one of them), so you just have to go back the other way and cross them up again.

For the TAC section, it has the corner up/down/side and midscreen 9-Cube TACs. I thought I’d show how frank can instantly get to Lvl5. Is he a good partner? No idea, I never play Frank lol. That midscreen one is definitely easiest against Zero (to get all 9 anyway), but I have landed it against other characters too (Tasky, etc)

The “unblockable” section is short, more just a proof of concept.

The full team combos section is my fav (of course). There’s a bunch of stuff you guys might find interesting, and I actually tried to put up stuff using the teams you guys have been posting about.

DOK/Strange/Sent Midscreen 9 cubes off a a throw
9 cubes off a throw in the corner with Mo-Tempest’s team
The unblockable section is with LTP’s team
9 cubes off a throw in the corner with my team lol
Added an extra cube to LTP’s combo
Anti-air fanciness because of Ironboy’s suggestion
12 balloon bombs in one combo… just because. lol

The Magneto combo is also interesting because DHCing to HPB and continuing the combo actually does more damage than DHCing to HBR (builds meter too), can be used with lots of teams.

how in the world did you get 76 hits from killer illumination? I need to step my mashing up cause I thought the max was 60 hits, lol. whats even better is that the followup combo kills virgil with max mashing…that is even better than I thought! He is one of the main characters I land KI on with any consistency. I havent watched it all yet, but everything is awesome so far! had to comment on that part though

edit:
I finished the video and every bit of it was awesome. Good stuff, Nos! Front page again for sure!

Marry me.

My favorite part was probably 10:20.

This needs to get on the front page. SCIENCE

(How do you send in a tip? Argh!)

 my favorite combo was the solo jamming bomb one. It’s elegant :). Thank you Nos99! This video is great.

Very nice video, it gives me ideas for what to finish my combos with. loved the balloon bomb combo at the end, the most I could get in a combo was 8. :frowning: I liked the force beam combo the most.

What the hell was going on in the last combo…is that a Exchange glitch?

I usualy get flabbergausted by your combos, but I don’t get mind****ed :wtf:!

Good stuff. I also lol’d at Thor dying without using meter…

That second TAC combo was also science.

Well, duh… I cheated. lol

I have mashed 70+ hits myself, and I don’t consider myself to be that much of a masher (when the hell did that become a skill anyway?) but I wanted to find out what the absolute maximum was, so I fired up the ol’ turbo buttons.

I’m actually really glad that you don’t mash MODOK’s other supers… I guess it’s a shame that we don’t get that free extra mash damage, but still… I think mashing is retarded.

I guess so? It’s sort of like what Ammy used to do… It’s actually pretty tight, and the reward doesn’t seem all that great for how difficult it is.

However, I haven’t really explored it all that much, so maybe there’s a better setup, or bigger payoff, etc.

fucking bonkers Nos! Bravo!

Too much awesome in one video  I’m definitely going to learn that seemingly unending unblockable setup.

4:25/… that comboooo… wow.

EDIT: I was logging down each combo i thought which was super bad ass, but now, I’ve decided that marking from 0:00 - 11:39 would cover every bad ass thing that happened in that video. holy shit.

Pretty sure UP-BACK will screw it right up lol

You can toss the slime puddle earlier to try and stop them from UP-BACKing, but you don’t want to throw it too early because a lot of characters can actually air-block the puddle on the way in (it seems to be very character specific). For the purpose of the video, I wanted to wait a bit as well, because I wanted to make extra sure that I didn’t include Doom as part of the combo (so I could call him again at the end)

But all the same, they still won’t be able to get out very well, even if they super (sans hard drive) they’ll probably eat a missile. Seems like a great way to do a snapback!

EDIT: Saw this comment on youtube…

"See the basic combos
Welp, I’m officially terrible at this game."

I lol’d! Yup, this ain’t a Wesker video.

That’s true, but at least it sets up a mixup or two and they probably won’t expect it the first time they see it if they don’t upback right away lol.

The Cr.M is still useful to prevent U/Bing those as long as they don’t U/B when the move isn’t a low.

It’s similar to Wolverine doing aerial combo into his jumping S. Then Wolverine catches where the oppotent techs, then he uses Cr.l to prevent them from chicken-blocking. If the oppotent chicken-block while Logan Cr.L is active during the very own wake up, they will be stuck grounded…Wolverine get a free combo. This works because nearly every character except (MODOK) is grounded for 4 frames. While they are grounded, they are vulnerable to high/low mixups. If the oppotent U/B during their ground frames, the game won’t protect them from lows.

MODOK can do the same thing if with his Cr.m once it’s a low. Just keep in mind this works when you are grounded, if you are in the air…you are safe from lows.

Wonderful wonderful video. I don’t have to go scrounging through the thread for the combos too!
I need to get a copy of this game and lab it up to get more Hsien Ko + MODOK love.

10/10. Would watch again… FOREVER.

On the note of the mashing thing, I absolutely hate watching Ultimate tournaments in real life.
You just see all these guys mashing their sticks, and it makes UMVC3 look like a retarded game aha. Well, maybe it is just a bit, but it honestly makes the game look so stupid to someone who isn’t familiar with the mashing mechanism.
I actually forgot Killer Illumination had the mashing thing. Better grind up my fingers again.

Firebrand can do the same thing actually. I don’t know much about this game, but I think it’s because the TAC hits, but your character then lands and can’t/doesn’t jump back to tag out. If the Modok one also leads to a hard knockdown, he could probably raw tag into other characters and still combo.
