I’ve been forcing myself to see it that way for the most part, but when things get hairy and I really need to hit the right input for my DHC, I still wind up doing the wrong one. And even when I’m getting the assist order right in my head, the mental energy I’m using to do that is hurting my gameplay…
Also, I can’t believe it, but I still sometimes mix up whether or not I’ve used my x-factor, even with the big Xs, which, incidentally, I actually don’t find distracting at all, when I originally thought I would. Lifebar order still blows though.
We complain about x-factor visibility, so they give us a GIANT, OBNOXIOUS X. We didn’t complain about being able to see our character’s life bars, or intuitively knowing character order, so they completely break it. Something just doesn’t jive.
Im still not used to the HUD man, its one of the worst designs I’ve seen in a while : Maybe its just me, but I’ve had a good amount of matches and I still don’t know who Im snapping in lol, its just a total reality, visual mindf* lol. Any news if this is gonna get patched or something? I thought id get used to it now but im still not
i still don’t know who i’m snapping in, who i’m tagging in, etc.
i’ve lost matches because i’ve tagged in the wrong person. i understand that it “takes some getting used to” but i’m not trying to get used to this at all. they need to change it because it wasn’t broken in the first place.
Although I’m glad that Capcom decided to place a ginormous ‘X’ beside the health bars to better tell us when we have X-factor on, I actually have trouble seeing when my x-factor runs out. Hell I don’t even know where I’m supposed to look.
The red glowing in characters can be a bit annoying sometimes as well. The assists do take sometime to get used to. Occasionally I find myself having to take a look at the health bars to see the order of my team, and remind myself “oh this guy is my assist one now”.
My suggestion?
Bring back the old health bars from Vanilla - either replace the new ones completely, or allow users to change the HUD - sort of like skins. But make sure they don’t charge for it as a DLC.
Keep the large X-factor symbol, but it could be good if it could be made slightly smaller. I don’t know where the hell the gauge is for how much time I have left for x-factor, but using the X itself as a gauge might be better, instead of say something trickling down somewhere else.
Actually one thing that Capcom could have done with the new HUD (and one that I’m genuinely surprised that they didn’t do) with regards to X-Factor would have been to have the Dos Equis logo also act as the timer, i.e. after X-Factor activation instead of two hard to see red lines draining out that the red color slowly drains from the giant X. Much easier to see.
i know what you mean - if while it’s on, you can see two red bars slowly draining outlining your health bar itself or somewhere up there on the HUD. it’s easy to miss.
But in all seriousness, the HUD is a joke. I’ve only played it once since launch and I’m thinking, “who in the world came up with this garbage and who approved this?”
I’ve spent way too many hours with UI designers for the past months and may be hypersensitive right now, but at a shindig at my place Friday I mostly stared in abject horror at the A2/A3 fake life bars. I don’t understand why you would want the fakebars to be tinted yellow. Is it just to thwart logical people?
I just watched a match between NYChrisG and MegamanSteve in the Big Two #2 Tournament. The first game, MegamanSteve could actually pop x-factor to save his deadpool. However, he had not noticed that Akuma was killed when he came out as an assist.
The UI can really be a game breaker. The old one was so good, why change it?
You guys know that Marvel 3 will be on the Vita right? that’s where this hud idea must have come from. One that saves space, and someone thought it would be a good idea to put on consoles. Hell, i couldn’t imagine trying to squint at the x factor line on a handheld, so maybe not. i kind of like it though. Other than the character switching of course.
Whether Marvel 3 will be on Vita or not, the position of characters, nor the color variants in the meter, should matter. Simply put the point character on top and so on; instead of putting light green on a light blue, use red. None of these changes will hinder the GPU or processing speed.
How exactly is this HUD “Vita-friendly?” I’ve seen people say this before and I don’t understand where they’re coming from. Putting it on a smaller screen makes it better because _____?
Can’t count how many times me and my cousin said “Wait, there’s still another character” or “Wait, all my characters are dead” due to the fact that we can’t tell what the hell is going on with the middle health bar covering everything in sight. Only thing it doesn’t cover is the XF sign. I use that sometimes to tell how many chars I have now. Can’t miss that Big Red X unless it’s already used.
Having everything bunched together makes it small screen space friendly, and honestly the colors are small screen space friendly as well. You wouldn’t want too much bright yellow, and red flashing in your face, clashing with the stage on a handheld. I don’t think the UI is that bad. It just needs some tweaking.
If that’s their reasoning then they’re dumber than I thought. Sacrificing/compromising the console version of a game for the handheld version is the most idiotic thing I’ve heard today.
A month in and this shit is still retarded. No surprise there. Need to snap in that threat character to take them out before they get lvl 3 x factor or too much meter to burn? Too bad, you just wasted a bar to bring in the secondary character instead.
Worst part is when people complained during promotion events Capcom said it was place holder and that I would be getting changed, Capcom talk out of their ass I don’t believe anything they say these days…
sometimes it fucks me up. In most matches it doesnt, but for snapping in characters or when people do that to me it messes me up. I dont mind the giant x.
