This HUD... is the worst ever

Things I noticed: 1) It is hard to look at the top bar with a CRT, 2) The big X is distracting for people prone to migraines, 3) Characters turning red are hard to see for some people and will trigger migraines. Similarly the way in which you select colors is kinda crappy since, instead of the picture changing along with the taps of the controller, you have to select the character and then deselect. Seems kinda silly when they already have all the portraits done with the color variants.

I like this HUD and after about 1 hour of playing UMvC3 had No Problem whatsoever distinguishing between which assist is which and how much health they have. I personally don’t understand what’s so bad about it

Have you read the thread?

Yeah, and i don’t understand why people keep saying they can’t tell what their assists’ health are and that they call out the wrong assists. I find it to be pretty clear and even better because of how x factor is now displayed

That’s all obviously a bit of hyperbole. We can tell where our assists are and what shape they’re in – it all just LOOKS incredibly stupid, and for no reason. I mean, I would be able to tell how much health my point character had if MvC3’s health bars were made up of five different ones like in DBZ games. That doesn’t make it a good idea to implement.

If its some hyperbole then why do people keep complaining about having problems with DHCing and assist order? I don’t find it hard to remember that 1 button is 1 character and 1 button is the other. Unless someone’s playing with a completely random team it shouldn’t be difficult to know the order of that team.

Because it all just LOOKS incredibly stupid, and for no reason.

I acknowledge your epic milestone and righteous victory

I never had to get used to the BB hud. There were lots of meters, but their placement was intuitive and natural. In fact, it’s a testament to how terrible the UMVC3 hud is that I find it significantly more confusing than the BB hud, despite conveying less information.

I thought that MVC3 felt incredibly rushed and unpolished. It had some great concepts and ideas intermixed with some inexplicably terrible implementations of basic things. To me, UMVC3 is slightly more polished, but feels even more rushed. I can play it just fine, but it annoys me when I think of how much better the package could have been with a little more TLC and a little less… whatever it is that makes you release a sequel 10 months after the original game.

Money. The word you’re looking for is money.

I not too annoyed by it now because I know what buttons my assists are on most of the time. If my team order gets shifted about, I might make a mistake. Just something were gonna have to get used to.

I didn’t care about the new HUD because I don’t look at health bars to call my assists or DHC, I just know which character is next.

That was until yesterday when I started playing with TAC’s and getting snapped in. I cannot read the names of the assist characters AT ALL and as soon as my team is thrown out of order I am pretty fucked unless I realize it immediately.

Getting use to it makes it not bad? You can get use to bad things but it doesn’t make the HUD not bad because you adjusted.

Wow, you just made me realize snapping the 3rd character in just to fuck up someone’s order is now an awesome tactic with this life bar shenanigans!

if they released a dlc to fix lifebar placement i would pay $5 right-fucking-now

Still finding the best way to think of it is Anchor up top.
But the problem then arises… I either have to identify by mug or not at all because the names are tiny. fml.
Especially if I’m trying to decipher whether Phoenix is second or third on the other person’s team.
And then I get mindf*cked because I read Phoenix and Phoenix.

The HUD is bad if for no other reason than it looks awful on streams. Coping with it in full 1080p on a >32" display is one thing, but when trying to watch a stream of the game the shit is just impossible to follow. I can never tell what characters are alive or dead or how much health they have. The old HD even with the Dos Equis sign would be so much better.

The Hud in Ultimate is easily the worst Hud I have ever seen. There really is no reason for it to be that bad, I have already tagged in or called the wrong assist numerous times because of that horrible thing.

Ok yea it sucks, but I got used to which assist was which in the first day. It’d be nice if it made sense by A2 being beneath A1, but I’d prefer the assist lifebars being more visible over just changing where they are. I don’t really expect Capcom to fix it though, sadly.

I was originally thinking this but now? I think it’s kinda cool. I love the look and for it to go center-below then loop back to the top DOES make sense the more I think about it.
