Nice Jog, man.
Wait you can really focus his Ultra??? Poor Dan…
You have to activate a TT on the same frame (or a split second early) as Zangief activated super/ultra. In other words, if you didn’t hit the punch yet and you see the super flash/ultra zoom, you’re screwed.
I gotta say…stuffing a Gief Ultra to win a round is one of the greatest things ever. I always like to add the phrase “FUCK YO COUCH!” after I’ve done it. Classic.
Yeah dude i too also love to yell tired cliches when I do a movoe in street fighter. My favorite is “ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!!!” have you ever seen that video??
Some input from me which HAV/Juice can put in the posts if they like it:
Boxer: Against bad Boxers, they will often try to enter with an EX rush punch (or even non-EX) from full screen. You can easily ultra this on reaction if you’re watching for it. If you have chippable life left, even average Boxers will probably try this every so often. You have way more time to see this coming than a shoto fireball, too, so should be very doable. Close roundhouse stuffs all non-EX headbutts on wakeup for counterhit, which lets you step kick into combo. I think meaty step kick is pretty good in general against Rog, and since you’ll get your fair share of crumples against him, you’ll get a lot of chance to do this.
Blanka: As mentioned, you can ultra any hit or blocked horizontal ball, standing, crouching, or counterhit. He simply cannot ball, ever, if you have ultra. If he insists on trying to trick you by balling just short of you, intentionally dash into him, take the hit, then ultra. On Blanka’s wakeup, TT beats electricity, but loses to upball. After one TT, dash forward twice and HP TT again (if Blanka doesn’t have ultra). Force him to start upballing you, which you can then ultra, even on hit. It can almost be kind of a goofy option select (input TT and ultra 1 second inbetween). You can reversal roll (doesn’t have to be EX) after Blanka has ultra’D, or you can LP super through it so long as he won’t land on top of you; if he’s in the range to land on top of you, I think you get a free skyfall! Better yet, just HK roll and get out of there. Unfortunately, Blanka gets away (don’t ultra into his back, you’ll get hit UNLESS he’s actually in the roll phase of his ultra). If you can afford to block the ultra, you get a free dash up TT or, with good timing, a very early lvl 2 focus into combo of choice. Open most of your rounds with a standing MP or two. It’ll stuff a round-starting ball.
^ If I can also add; that what I like to do vs Blanka, on his wake up, in addition to TT, is crouch and start jabbing.
It beats electricity, jump away, horizontal ball, all normals and throws.
The only things that can beat it is an upball and super/ultra.
Beware though if you’re too close [body touching] you can get electrified.
infil, good rogs usually dont do that and if they do the overhead/sweep dash punch it will beat ultra. if they do you can just throw it on reaction instead. safer option since you cant really tell too much which dash punch it will be.
Yes, it was more of a strategy for beating crappy Rogs. I think ultra beats overhead dash punch though? It does lose to sweep, but that’s not a great punch for trying to chip someone with. I think the risk/reward in general is worth it, especially when you’re playing some no-name Rog. If you’re playing a player good enough to intentionally beat a potential Abel ultra by using low rush, he’s not going to do full-screen rush anyway. It’s just something to keep in your back pocket and worth mentioning in a general “vs. Rog” matchup thread, imo.
Yes, EX TT works well, but does require you to have good timing.
Not sure what a movoe is, but I definitely feel you on the tired cliche thing. Never heard of anyone saying old internet memes though. Maybe I should try it…
ex overhead beats ultra. ex tt works but i was talking about regular throw. anyone can throw an ex dash, you just have to be looking for it because when rog does an ex dash, when he is in front of you he stops/pauses before the hit allowing you to throw him.
ha, that sounds like the easiest knockdown ever, but why did i never think of it! i know what you mean about him pausing, seems so obvious to just throw now, saves you from having to guess aswell eh? or are the other punches a bit harder to time for the throw?
they are all the same. EVERY ex dash punch (any version, sweep, straight, etc, etc.) pauses and they are all the same timing.
Thanks for the tip, I have problem with Chun Li’s backdash. Its a free get out of jail free card and means that I have to work hard again just to get in. I’ve been trying to use Abel step kick againt the backdash but its hard to time it on reaction.
If people are backdashing out of your setups just wait a bit and do a fierce CoD, it will get them at the end of their recovery. Keep using this and they will think twice about dashing back.
lk roll is also a good option, as you will end up right in front of them before they recover, so you can TT them if you time it right.
General belief is that Backdashes > Abel, but it isn’t true… He has more than enough options to deal with them
also on some characters ( not all, sadly ) backdash can be punished with falling sky
this is very risky and you probably should never do it. standing there with your hand in the air with a risk of losing life is not good.
btw sup mileena ;p
This was just awesome!
So are all the character match ups gonna be moved to the main page?
I’ve seen a few match ups scattered through these pages.
HAV, JuiceBox, thanks for your insight. Real deep shit.
Hi and yes it’s risky but if you got a chronic backdasher who you’ve trained to fear TT it’s not a horrible idea to use FS as a follow up
thanks hav n juice for the akuma matchup info. yeah i guess my problem against akuma is that im usually scared of him before the match even starts (too much rape experience against top players)… and the frustration of:
- not being able to get in and do damage
- being practically useless at far range/close range(because of teleport)
- getting hit by s.hk and watch myself getting raped while holding downback hoping the akuma to mess up(and he didnt, never once)
hk roll sure is your friend in this matchup. and hav basically nailed what ive seen great abel players here been doing to win against akuma (though ive seen them get raped by s.hk shenanigans and vortex too)… and yeah mind reading + good reflex + never miss a chance to do damage = possibility to win.
