yeah runaway seth really isn’t too bad, his limbs vs. abel’s cr. fp is bad news for seth ( scrubby ones anyway). i wouldn’t advise random rolls toward seth to screw up his spacing, if he’s running away from you, just slowly walk forward and block low. when you get close, you can use st. lk / st. mp for pokes, and if he jumps, elbow is effective. if he throws out a lot of pokes like st. fp from far away, focus dash and ex CoD are good ways to deal with that, and if he likes to throw sonic booms from full screen, dash in and ultra is good, because the recovery on seth’s sonic boom is terrible.
vs. rushdown seth however, yeah… this is pretty damn scary, because while seth’s stamina sucks, his offensive options are some of the best in the game, he has crazy pressure and mixups, not to mention a command throw he can tick into, and there’s not a whole lot abel can do about offensive seth. against this type, i’d say don’t let him get into his divekick mixups, look for openings to do counterhit fw. mk , and to quickly assume an offensive role (yet not reckless), because you really have to make seth afraid to move in on you, because once he does, it’s stun-city. and, honestly, after a couple TT’s, seth’s pretty much dead, so focus on getting some high damaging stuff in early and before he builds meter
There’s that, but I think he was referring to this one:
It’s a 10 minute video of capable Abel and Seth players playing against each other, with Youtube annotations describing different aspects of the match in detail. It’s a good watch for sure.
EDIT - Hmm, don’t know how I missed that post above mine. :looney:
Regarding Rog when you get the un-techable knockdown do you find it is better to do the ambiguous rolls on his wake up, safe jump or safe jump cross up? The last match I played with Rog I tried doing the cross up safe jump to pressure him and he was able to get out with EX dash punch. At the time I couldn’t tell if it was just bad spacing/timing on my part that allowed it to happen or what.
I have most troubles against Rog, he can backdash on wake-up out of so many things, ugh. Not a good idea to cross up when he can ex headbutt. And he has a weird hitbox as a lot of ambiguous rolls i try leave you at a weird distance unlike other characters, so you cant do much.
Hmm, i saw a match with Dragon boy abel who punished Rog’s backdashes with step kick. so he crossed up, walked forward, and punished the backdash, after a knockdown. Pretty cool.
Not one of my favourite matchups, although i bet a few people would disagree, ha!
I like facing Balrog. Standing up its a hard fight, but once you knock him down he has all kinds of problems. His wakeup is crap… after TT I don’t think you can do a safe jump cross up, but you can do a regular safe jump on him. That is one key thing particularly if he uses a lot of headbutt. Otherwise, you can EX TT his EX dash punch (after a jump, if you are on the ground, just use a regular meaty TT) if he is one of those guys. you can OS sweep to catch a backdash, although you have to be careful because the OS sweep will still come out if he headbutts and then you’ll get hit.
Meaty c.fp isn’t a great choice against him for the reason Drew mentioned, sometimes the 2nd hit whiffs for no reason.
severin-x you always have to use all your options. If you can safe jump someone, do that sometimes, do safe cross ups when you can, use ambiguous rolls… and don’t forget that standing there and doing nothing is always an effective option.
Yeah I actually fell into a bad habit in my last match of pressuring Rog the same way on every knockdown. I have actually had people back dash out of Able’s sweep though so I never even try that OS.
Are you SURE you can punish a blocked soul spiral? I play Rose a bit and I know one of her BnBs (c.lp, c.lk, c.mp xx lp Soul Spiral) is safe on block because of the spacing those three hits give for soul spiral. So… any properly spaced soul spiral can be safe on block. If it’s not properly spaced, THEN it can be punished. Same goes with her slide, but not many Rose players know how to properly use her slide, including me. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
