Only HP headbutt is punishable with CoD(lp/mp)/Ultra.
You got me confused with headbutt and flying headbutt(I’m assuming its buttslam)…
I dont think you should fight air-to-air against Honda. More ground game.
If you expect a buttslam(even possible on reaction, but you have to somehow be prepared for it), focus that shit on the way down. jumpback mk works too against reversal buttslams.
anyway, checkout busta’s post here:
its okay, when you have the time to spare and search for stuff… go into a thread (most of the stickied ones has info in them…), and at the top right slightly above the first post on the page, you can see a “search thread” function… you have to wait after each search though so it helps to be specific like maybe “honda headbutt” etc…
Gonna have to try this. Can’t say that I enjoy fighting Chun, so any advantage I could get would be grateful. I mostly just try to bait her attacks and pick up on what setups/tickthrows she uses.
You can always Safe Jump chun and work accordingly with things to add to the chun li punishment lol
Personally I like to get her to burn all her meter. After that, on wakeup, I do some meaty cr.shorts or a meaty wheel kick incase of a backdash.
you can focus attack when you knock her down, and backdash to bait an EX SBK, then you have free ultra afterwards. gotta wait like a couple milliseconds though. this is a gimmick you should only bring out once a match/when you have momentum unless the chun is really bad.
also if she’s walking backwards you can probably ultra a kikoken on reaction.
LOL i like that, Chun Li Punishment. Bring on the CLP son!
That’s extremely gimmicky. I use to do that, but I just stand outside of EX SBK and punish with F+mk combo. Gotta make sure that I finish the combo with fierce falling sky because it looks the coolest.
Kikoken is a huge pain in the ass to ultra reversal because Chun’s for the most part aren’t very predictable with their fireballs.
Jab Kikoken recover fairly fast too.
Hmm.
…but to me its easier to anticipate a kikoken since chun has to charge for it so you know when to buffer ultra or not, if shes walking about back n forth, likely no kikokens is coming at you. prepare/anticipate a kikoken if a chun is just walking back, db, or jumping.
It’s true that it’s easy to anticipate a kikoken if chun is walking straight back. I think that decent players won’t do something as obvious as this though. Everyone knows that Abel is made to deal with fireball game and once it gets down to the last bit of health it’s suicidal for people to throw fireballs.
Still, if you think you can anticipate your opponent then go for the ultra. I throw it out in casuals from time to time.
Not saying its easy.
As for abel made to deal with fireballs… so yeah thats the only thing hes good at i guess. dealing with fireballs.
If you have a life lead + ultra. The chun cant do anything to get in on you. She cant kikoken, nor jump in. Thats good enough for me.
Samesies
Yeah I hear you. Hey! When she has no meter I dont think she too threatening. But when she has meter make that bitch burn like she has herpes.
Most good Chuns I’ve played like to save their meter. As in they won’t use their meter until they got Super or 3/4ths full. Makes sense, but they never feel threatened to waste meter even on a safe jump.
Yeah good chuns know the timing for abels safe jump that they’ll only ex sbk when they know it isnt a safe jump… but hey its still good since now they only have 2 options either to stay there/block/throw… or to backdash… this matchup really strains the reflex imo.
Plus a good chun player ive fought the other day, mostly used meter either for super or ex kicks (besides after a crouching attack, also used after a hazanshu) and sometimes ex kikoken when i have no ultra and just dancing around, or sometimes just to gamble that he’ll get away with it without getting ultrad…
but then again, safe jump aint the only way to bait an ex sbk.
Truth Man
So something I’m curious about is how you guys approach Seth. I know whenever I have to play against him, I’ll try to use different rolls to mess up his spacing and dash in trying to land a F.mk or something else that leads into a combo. Usually they neutral jump and try to hit me when I get out of the roll. They also love to run away. Seth’s are such vaginas.
runaway seths aren’t as much of a problem as rushdown Seth. If a player has enough confidence in his game to use Seth’s mixups on you, then the matchup fucking sucks
Truth. Seth rushdown = safe jumpin on wakeup and then mix up. He is huge pain in my asshole.
You should check out that one Abel vs Seth video. I can’t look it up right now, but I’m sure you can find it on YouTube just by searching that. It’s pretty in-depth with two solid players playing. Although OnlineTony is the local Seth player around here, I have yet to play him so I don’t have much good matchup experience to feel comfortable discussing this matchup. Watch that video though, really helpful.
