EX CoD XX EX Roll
The kara-cancel, Armor Roll.
yeah, I knew it was an ex armor trick… but I didn’t know it would actually avoid meaty/safe jump-ins. =O
not true. could be 1 hit.
hmm ur right, i shoulda watched the vid
i thought all armored moves had to be on multi hit
my question is why not just EX roll to avoid meaty jumpins? why bother with an EX Cod?
Doing EX Roll doesn’t work, because of the nature of safe jump OS.
If Gief does not come into contact with Abel’s body before he touches the ground, he’ll do EX SPD upon landing. This will catch the grab.
If Gief does come into contact with Abel’s body before landing (via a hit, or having his attack blocked), the SPD will not come out, and the next option will, which is cr. JPs.
So, the point of the EX CoD is to create contact with Gief, so that there will be a slight pause while Gief is in the air, which prevents the SPD from coming out, then you roll to safety, since there’s no SPD.
and it all comes back to them option selects i see
well at least there an option we can select to get out! joke failed? oh well
I actually agree with this, I saw combo wreck giefs left and right, he would counterpoke geifs st.mp with cr.mk all the time, and once he felt they were scared of throwing pokes out he would just go nuts on them.
Combo = #1 abel in us imo
That wouldn’t surprise me.
I haven’t played him since like February, but he’s always a beast.
My friends who’ve played against him like to give me insight on how my Abel is different than his Abel. Not that I’m completely trying to replicate him, but it’s much different from just pointing out the differences from a match video.
I’d like to see Combo do some sets against some decent Giefs (UltraDavid, or even just your average arcade Gief) and put the videos online. I really don’t know how to approach this match.
Like, I know the general approach, but I get knocked down way too easily. The Gief doesn’t even have to be good to wreck shop on a knocked down Abel. And I will say that Gief/Abel in a laggy environment seems nigh unwinnable.
If you’re playing footsies and you get a step kick blocked, what are your best options here? I hate just jump-back medium kick or whatever. Can you jump straight up and come down to bait SPD, and stick out something to stuff lariat? I try with neutral jump HK but it seems to lose to lariat. I bet LK will beat it, but you don’t get a combo on it, so you might as well jump back.
What are the best punishes for baiting EX messiah when you don’t have ultra? Step kick blocked, you bait EX messiah with a LK roll, then what? Or you jump back, and he’s in your face with EX messiah on landing, then what? (in the latter case, I know raw ultra will beat all three followups, so surely something else must too?)
He played against Mike Ross’ Gief at LA Riots

I think you can roll after the first part of the messiah kick so long as you’re blocking (obviously). So if you lk roll after the first part, you can easily punish with a TT or CoD or whatever crap you decide to do.
Thats not what he asked though. Its whats the best punish for baiting them to ex messiah past you. You cant punish with TT, not sure about CoD whether it will reach or not because ex messiah will take him really far away from you. Maybe a quick HK wheel kick can good(confirmed) damage…
What’s the best way of dealing with Honda’s repeated buttstomps? Besides blocking? I tried using st. HP and it seems to work, but I still get owned sometimes. Could be my timing though. I don’t like FA’ing it, because it sometimes crosses me up and I still don’t get to punish it. Just wondering what other suggestions are out there
Best punish is dash up fwd.mk combo or raw ultra
Its not always about punishing… sometimes you just need to roll away(and start your offense or “punishing” from there).
As for me I prefer FA-ing it, since i can dash/backdash cancel. Though I do think I need to use st.hp more.
edit: and what strider said, plus check out that new vid busta did too
just roll out the way and ultra or cr.mk combo
Light Punch Tornado Throw will own any butt splash that is within range of it, (After you block the 2nd hit) This is usually the safest best because you will have frame advantage and if he throws his command throw out it will lose to your LP TT, the timing is a bit strict…i rarely EX TT throw the butt splash as it will lose to regular throw and you will simply lose the bar. the Medium and Firce versions of the butt splash will give you more room, so the tornado throw isnt that great of an option but you’re safe from his command throw since it will create more distance between you and honda.
Few more tips on honda:
If he throws out a headbutt, I usually block and Fierce COD, it looks like it will whiff, but it wont and typically can get a hit, its a gamble but puts pressure on honda.
Finally bait an HP headbutt, block and ultra on reaction…I’ve won tons of matches with it, and rarely (1 out of every 10) will I miss…the EX Headbutt cannot be ultrad into and you will get ownd hard.
His Jumping Fierce is tough on anyone especially abel, stay away from it, I force my self to stay grounded with honda, his EX headbut and regular buttsplash plus his jumping fierce will control the skies and have you wishing you had a dragon punch…GL
Can someone explain to me what a MP super is? Is that just cl.mp combo into super , or does he mean the mp version of super? If it’s the latter does that mean that there’s a difference between using lp, mp, or hp when doing super? I just assumed it didn’t matter what punch was used for super.
Not good advice at all…
TT is NOT safe against butt splash, especially the lk buttsplash(a good honda will use this the most)… maybe against a blocked/whiffed EX buttsplash you can TT it, but the rest, not worth the risk.
You said 2nd hit of the buttsplash, meaning its the ex version of the buttsplash, which honda usually use on wakeup, this can be dealt with jump back mk(watch busta’s video for more info)… but if the honda knew you’re going to do that he’ll delay the buttsplash and you will eat it.
Its abel basics that he can only punish a blocked HP headbutt with lp/mp CoD or ultra, NEVER hp CoD, unless the honda is terrible and doesnt block.
Yeah honda’s j.hp is super good but you can deal with it with cr.mk, properly timed cr.hp(which can lead to free ultra btw).
MP version of the super. There’s a difference between lp/mp/hp. But this question doesnt belong here. Ask in the simple question thread instead. Dont want to derail this thread with basic questions.
That doesn’t quite work. I think lk and mk versions of the buttstomp are safe against Abel. Most Honda’s will do a 2nd buttstomp right after the first one, which is why I asked for suggestions on how ppl deal with it in the first place. I just wanted to know what others do to get out and punish accordingly.
I’ll give the roll a try. Not sure why I didn’t think of it. I’m sure mixing it up with roll and st. HP should stop a Honda from going buttsplash happy on Abel.
