i noticed the super meters at SDCC, but i figured the length difference was due to playing 3rd strike for the first time ever on widescreen tv’s and didnt think much of it. it wasnt until i played at home on a crt that i noticed how drastic the difference was.
you cant blame any of the players at the secret tourney for anything. they had maybe a half day with 3soe. we need to blame capcom and derek neal for not getting the proper representatives from the community, and not having proper testing.
this game shouldn’t have online if they’re not going to do a proper matchmaking system. this bullshit “user friendly” ranked match system is ass, especially with ggpo. ggpo is only worth it if you can have regional matchmaking when it comes to 3s. i thought that if ponder had the source code then things would have been a lot better but apparently that’s not the case. i had better online matches on the old ggpo than this 3soe.
did floe test any of the online features of the game? that’s really the worst part of 3soe imo. i can live with the sound glitches and some of the other inconveniences like that, but the online feature of this game is beyond horrible. unreliable ping, no regional matchmaking, waiting 5 min for a ranked match that might be shit anyways, etc… is budget really to blame for that? i think this has to do with it’s release date more than it’s budget to be honest. too many fighters before and after it’s release date. this was the best time to release 3soe and it wasn’t finished.
I concur. GGPO was becoming too unstable lately. However, it was and it propably is still the best online experience. Not so many issues in older builds. It depends on the PC build and connection.
I have never noticed any input delay in the emulator offline (crt monitor). The game speed is kinda fast. That’s not bad, I think.
When I switched my old crt monitor for a HD one, I noticed some delay.
About 3SOE, everyone has bought it or propably will buy it for the online feature. It could have been better.
some people are overestimating the authority that floe had. he was hired to:
-create trials
-give feedback. The developers are never required to implement every feedback suggestion. Developers have the final say.
look at seth killian, he said that the higher-ups sometimes don’t listen to his suggestions at all. and seth has been with capcom for years, a person who has just been hired has less influence within the company.
even if you replace floe with another player, the only noticeable change in the final game would be the trials.
this is prolly what capcom told the developers:
Make something with features that sound nice on paper so we can sell it easily
so they ended up with:
-improved graphics
-GGPO
-NEW music
-ACHIEVEMENTS, since for some reason a lot of (dumb) people REALLY CARE about achievements.
stuff like a good training mode isn’t as sexy on paper so it was prolly relegated to the bottom of to-do list and they ran out of time to implement it. and due to lack of time they couldn’t correct all the gameplay and matchmaking bugs.
I can’t really speak for floe’s 3s experience, but I know for sure that he isn’t a first choice when it comes to 3s gurus. It feels like Capcom/Iron Galaxy just drew sticks or something and randomly picked him to “supervise” the game and either he did a real shoddy job at it, the devs didn’t show everything to him, or it was so early in development all the crap wasn’t implemented yet. I’d love to hear some clarification from him on the issue, so please floe, post more.
Budget for this tittle is obviously not in the millions, that’s already clear from using the console port of 3s as the core, even when, let me remind you, they said that it was supposed to be emulated straight from the arcade roms. Most of the unlockable art in The Vault is years old fanmade pictures, UDON comics, plus lol SF4 art.
As I have said many times before, GGPO is and never was any sort of miracle netcode, it still works like shit when there’s a long distance between players or the connection is bad. The only differance is that with GGPO you get random teleporting when it lags when “traditional” netcodes gives you that “underwater” kind, which I personally prefer over random teleporting as it’s more easy to predict and act along with. Granted, the console versions of GGPO used in HDR and 3SO works way more shittier than the PC version, but the point still stands; GGPO is not the second coming of Jesus.
I like how the thread started with everyone whining and blaming Floe for Online Edition’s downfalls, but when he makes a post and tells everyone the business they pat him on the back and start looking for other people to blame.
You would have no chance at doing any kind of charge partitioning on anything other than GGPO… just be real here…
This thing needs better matchmaking and ping numbers…
The trials and the (more) correct speed of this game is the only thing I really like about it… but online was implemented quite poorly for it to be online edition…
I don’t. I refuse to play anything but arcade. Some people would say I have an anti-progressive attitude, but I think it’s the opposite - the majority of people in the sf fighting game community are the ones with such an attitude. many of the new games coming out don’t offer much “new” to them and even push fighting games back further in terms of gameplay progress. i’d play something new if it was on par with or better than the old games, which i think aren’t all broken and don’t need fixing (no game is perfect). i love 3s and have put a ton of time into the game, but I’d play a game that built upon what gameplay elements 3s introduced and refined (while still playing 3s), or something else entirely as long as it progressed fighting gameplay, and/or something original…NEW. With the current trend of people saying players bitch and whine too much, often I feel those making such claims have low standards. “voting with my wallet” only furthers low standards and the lack of progression
Yeah, what poot typed basically. Wouldn’t hurt if the whole scheme for ranking and skill-matching players didn’t seem to be pure reward for grind and non-existent respectively, I mean if my win-to-loss is 143-167 I shouldn’t be tabling above a dude with 50-3 at all, there should be more risk attached to that kind of record. And I shouldn’t be hooked up with novices all day if my numbers are beastly
most important thing is that the game works (for the most part. ive had to reinstall it 3 times after it i guess corrupted and started freezing while loading matches) and that its bringing more people into the game. dont really care about anything else honestly
last night was the hypest night ever for 3sO, 900+ watching peaceful jay stream at 3am with valle, dyne, gootecks, aerith, renic, jebaily, arturo all in the lobby at some point
“capcom please teach me how to play this not so easy game”
“here’s some cool shit to figure out”
“but I wnt you to tell me how to do combos so I can b rlly good”
“this game is all footsies and hit confirms”

jokes aside can anyone tell me what exactly is wrong? I havn’t had any issues outside of waiting an extr minute or two to find a ranked match. Some of you people need better internet or something. I’ve been playing 3s on and off since it came out and don’t feel any wonky changes with 3soe. don’t see how the size of the super bar hinders your play.
I’m a bit confused. Since when is Floe an ambassodor for the 3S Community or fighting games in general? Why is everyone acting like he should have been? Any one of you chumps would gladly take that job if offered by Derek Neal despite your 3S knowledge or lack there of. I’m not defending Floe in the least but using him as a scapegoat is low. I mean really what is Floe going to say when Capcom says “Can you offer us some input in exchange for $$$?” will he retort with “Duh, no Capcoms I donts wants ur munnies!”. Get real.
I love the shit out of 3S and I’m very vocal about it. And despite my own reservations I have with OE I will continue to support things I feel deserve my support. This game is great and just because cloaked in douchy Ed Hardy wear does not mean that there isn’t a good person (game) underneath. For the most part this game is outtasight.
IMHO, overall I have a few compliants but I don’t whine about them. I politely request changes and hope for the best.
