Third Strike Tiers

So ok; Basically, Chun-li with a stocked SAII= Chun-li in control. I agree.

SAII doesn’t ALWAYS automatically put you in a corner…from many positions it does, however.

Ultradavid’s points about Chun is toptier.

Luke Parry’s points about Makoto is high-mid tier.

I think between the toptier of Yun, Chun, Ken, and the high-mid tier like the Dud, Urien and Yang, we can have Makoto squeezed in the middle of the 2.

I have a friend who thinks 3s is very very balanced, dont laugh yet. He thinks its balanced in a way that even ppl with no skills have a chance to win, by picking ChunLi or maybe Ken to a certain extent. But at the end, someone with much more skills can master Yun and win.

i think it’s balanced. every character gets used comptently (in japan hahaha) but sean. look at marvel or cvs2

umm parryall do you not think sextaro and arlieth are beast???
and there is some guys near me that are beast with makoto…

honestly the top 3 in america are this…
Chun
ken
Yun
we have a really good chun in justin who wins almost everything he touches…
lot’s of good kens, lot’s of them
and one great yun…no one else is close to pyro…

and the top 3 in japan
are
Yun
Chun
Makoto

japan has so many good yuns, Ohnuki, afm, tokido for chun, and j for makoto…plus izu and some others…J is sick…i’m sure youv’e all seen him double perfect kokujin…lol and yes i know daigo is sick. and so are some other kens…but honestly there makoto’s are retarted…

Too right they are, that’s exactly what I thought.

It always can. If the Chun player follows it up with a couple of her little hop-on-your-head BS things in the air, then even if her back was against the wall when the super started, at the end of it your head will be touching the wall on the other side. The reason the Chun user doesn’t always do this is because it’s not always the best option. Against some characters (let’s take Q), it doesn’t matter where the two players are on the screen, Chun is probably going to own him up anyway, and since Q’s defense rocks, Chun probably wants to deal as much damage as possible, and the hoppy follow-up doesn’t do that. But if the Chun player wants you in the corner and she lands Houyokusen, she’s got ya.

There have been alot of good points made in this thread, here are my 2 cents: I DO believe Yun is Top Tier and I DO believe that Chun is also mid Top Tier but I’m also pretty undecided on who takes the next spot for the next low Top Tier character between Makoto and Ken. Ken is extremely balanced as a character in terms of all aspects of the game. He has the speed, mix-ups, cross-ups with good follow-up options, priority and even has a bit of range on some moves (st.Roundhouse, cr.Forward, st.Forward etc.), but due to the fact that Ken is widely overused, it takes a player on a different level of thinking to use Ken in a new, different and fresh way to escape the “Shoto-Scrub” label.

On the other hand, Makoto has a very damaging offensive arsenal, medium couter-defensive arsenal. Although her stun combos are very nice, she lacks in Super Arts set-up ability. SAII probably the best choice IMO, but difficult to land as stated before due to the fact that your back has to be to the corner. I don’t think a Makoto player can easily lure or convince a seasoned player to follow her to the corner anyways so set-up is tough. Maybe the best way to utilize this Super is to build meter and EX Hayates or whatever else off it. Her dash is fast so I guess it sort of makes up for her lack of speed, but it’s not much compensation when engaged in a fast-paced, constant pressure match. I don’t use Makoto that much so any other input would be appreciated if I’m wrong.

i think makoto > ken. anytime ONE move = 100% of your life, ggpo. i mean, execution has a lot to do with it too. that’s, imo, why japan puts makoto above ken, but us puts ken above makoto. you can fuck up alot with ken, and still get away with it. not so much with makoto.

i don’t know, it’s sorta close, but makoto gets the edge in my book.

3rd best character in the game is still top tier.

Makoto, Yun, and Chun Li are the 3 winningest characters in 3rd Strike, and that’s on both sides of the Atlantic. That is not an accident. I changed my list to reflect that fact.

Demon and Sdouble: Yeah those guys are amazing, but not godlike. J is godlike. When Sextaro wins a national tournament then I’ll believe.

Ultra: In Q’s case, wouldn’t you agree that Chun Li is a more favorable matchup than Makoto or Yun? By more favorable I mean, like a 7-3 instead of an 8-2. Though personally I think it is a 6.5 - 3.5, and I have alot of reasons for that. What do you think?

Also, I’m waiting for someone to debate my low tier listings. I thought that would cause more of a stir than my top tier listings.

Okay, if I was to alter your list, this is what I’d do. This is solely based on observation and personal experience, it is by no means accurate.

Yun
Ken
Chun

Makoto
Dudley
Urien
Yang

Oro
Ryu
Akuma
Ibuki
Q

Necro
Hugo
Alex
Remy
Elena

Twelve
Sean

tiers also break down into this…how good is the player with that character…a crap ken has a better chance than a crap makoto…just b/c ken’s move list is simpler…his combos are easier anybody can cancel into super off a dragon punch…with makot you have to really, really know what your doing to be good…not that you don’t have to with ken…but that’s at the top levels…

ken is a better character overall for the skill levels but i think in the top players hands makoto is a lot deadlier…ken doesn’t have any stun combos or any easy LIFE COMBOS EVEN, like makoto does…

By that reasoning, Oro is top tier. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oro has a 100% life combo now ?

makoto isnt top tier. ken is.

quit being petty man…makoto has so many things and so many traps for karakusa man…why do tier threads break down into crap and people trying to make cute commments…let’s have a discussion…not omgbbqsacue one move top tier YEAZAHAAHA your gay, fag homo, no homo…poodingpopsicle bull shit trash talking…

keep it 3s dammit…and no i’m just calling you out there is plenty of this crap that is just useless…

Yeah he does. Requires no bar too. Target combo, shoryuken, kara shoryuken. You die.

Tiers are not based on how easy or not easy a character is to use. They are based on which characters have the best matchups, and are the best/strongest, period. If it was based off of ease of use then Yun, Makoto, and Urien would not be as high as they are.

ur wrong. Ur all Wrong Pink Sean is top tier!

Anybody maybe stop and think that Makoto could be flawed simply because her entire offensive game revolves around landing Karakusa?

that’s not entirely the case if the Makoto player selects SA1.

Makoto doesn’t really need to land Karakusa when using it because she can hit confirm into the super via several ways:

  1. s. strong link into super
  2. c. forward link into super
  3. UOH link into super
  4. s. roundhouse link into super
  5. c. short x jab Hayate link into super
  6. Oroshi xx super

etc, etc.

Karakusa is more like a bonus.
