sent/strider/doom is also a very strong team. the reason i still think that blackheart is better is that neither Strider nor Doom are an asset to Sentinal, and neither can help him in the air at all when he is on point. powerful as he is, that makes him basically fight alone, which is suicide in this game. Sentinal is stronger on point than Blackheart, and can cover strider better in certain rare situations during the Strider-Doom trap, but just cannot trap with Doom the way Blackheart can. all of your characters should work together very, VERY well, in every possible way, or else you will always have holes in your gameplan.
dude! mind games are fun sometimes; but don’t you get bored with this team every now and then?
so…in no particular order the best characters for S/D are:
sentinel
Cyclops
Blackheart
storm
Iron Man/War machine
am i forgetting any low-tiers that were considered really good? I can’t keep track anymore since this thread has been going on so long.
bored? nobody is bored when they are winning. in any case, it is not really my main team. i almost always pick the god that is RYU, in every one of my teams. Strider/Doom/Blackheart is just a really powerful team that i chose to master because it is very useful against people who have very strong defenses. most games are won or lost based on whether or not you can link your regular, fast moves into supers, or at least hit them with a super that stops whatever they are trying to do and punishes them. when that becomes very difficult to do, S/D/B becomes a very powerful team, because the better their defense, the worse off they actually are. and of course, mind games are what makes the difference between the good and the great players of the world.
yeah, those are among the best teamates for S/D… most any middle-tier is actually a good choice. again, your opponent’s strengths, weaknesses, and even their mood should come into play when you pick your team.
sentinal/strider/doom: THE trap, and powerful keep-away/push/away. probably the best choice for the strider/doom trap itself, but does not provide a good anti-air.
cyclops/strider/doom: cyclops AAA into Doom supers… ouch. cyclops is also good at rushing, and decent in keep-away with Doom’s help. most importantly, his highly damaging supers are very easy to connect with. a great choice if your opponent is weak in that area.
storm/strider/doom: add to your mind games the constant threat of DHCing storm in via Hail Storm. her powerful rushdown, keep-away and runaway, air control, and special moves–>supers make her a powerful choice. add to that her projectile assist, and you have quite a powerful chick for your team. she does not have a powerful anti-air however, and her assist does not cut the screen in half for you. remember, the whole point of the strider/doom trap depends on trapping them in one quadrant of the screen while you start strider’s super and attack them. only the combination of doom and a good anti-air assist can do that.
the benifits and drawbacks of iron-man/war-machine are obvious
another really great choice is CapCom. his AAA is almost as good as blackheart’s for the trap. (blackhearts tracks the opponent) capcom’s also does more damage, comes out quicker, and knocks the opponent up & back instead of merely up. if you want to be more aggressive with your traps, capcom is a great choice. Doom also can cover his rushdown game relatively well, and best of all, it is VERY easy to mix his regular and special moves into his supers. he tends to be weak vs. powerful rushdown games, however. against a powerful rushdown magneto, for example, you will end up turtling in the corner and calling out Doom, and CAREFULLY adding captain corridors.
whoa i talk too much. sorry, it’s just that this damn job is REALLY boring. i would rather be at the arcade!
what does dooms assist bring to blackheart that he doesnt bring to sentinel? blackheart/doom can be rushed recklessly. theres no short, short super, theres nothing blackheart can do to damage anyone with doom/strider assists. no reason for anyone to fear anything blackheart is doing. sentinel can damage people without the help of assists. he can also be rushed but at least he has super armor and has huge damage potential, two things blackheart lacks and needs. many times i win matches with sentinel alone, just killing off a point character. this will never happen with blackheart/doom. you never get any easy wins. the only character on that team capable of doing big damage is doom, but if hes fighting anyone except cable/without commando hes getting rushed.
i apologize for not explaining myself more clearly: Sentinal cannot cut the screen in half vertically with his assist so that you can start the Strider/Doom trap. although i admit that he is better than Blackheart once the trap is started, it doesn’t matter, because against stronger players you can barely get it started. Strider has to very easy guard breaks with Blackheart, but only one with Sentinal. the giant robot also has no good AAA for the Doom/whoever traps. as for working with others while he is on point, Doom cannot protect Sentinal in the air, which is a major part of the 100-ft robot’s game, and obviously neither can Strider. yes, Sentinal is a powerful force on his own, but fighting alone he is just a big target. if you beat people with Sentinal alone, you may need to seek out better competition.
Blackheart/Doom CANNOT be rushed “recklessly”… especially if you do the Hammer & Anvil trap correctly, there are many ways to punish those who attempt rushing games. to paraphrase musashi, your speed doesn’t mean jack when your head is being forced down.
easy wins? the whole reason for choosing Strider/Doom/Blackheart is that you have not been getting easy wins, at least with the gameplan that i described above, because the opponent’s defense is too strong to get an easy win with.
rushing characters CAN be punished, and made to fear your rebellion crushing, which makes them hesitate, which makes your traps even easier… if you are failing to punish them, it is because you are allowing them to dictate the pace of the match, rather than forcing them to fight at YOUR speed.
EVERYONE uses the giant robot. he will always be powerful, but now that everyone knows what you are doing with him, it won’t work without some good help, which neither Doom nor Strider provide him with. everywhere i go, my lone Ryu can out-think or out-fight any lone Sentinal fighter.
He’s faced really good competition. You, on the other hand, show up out of nowhere, registered this month, saying things like the quote above. It’s pretty easy to see why people won’t take your advice seriously and looking like you’re the one that needs to seek out better competition. Perhaps you should give us all a background check? Where’re you from and have you successfully ran your gameplan against any notable players?
^^Whoa! Hey guys, don’t start some argument about who’s good and who sucks. It’s that kind of B.S. that kills good threads like this one. Until our Striders can OCV JWong’s whole team on on a regular basis; I’d like to think that we all suck and need to practice more.
It’s not an argument at all, just asking for a background check that’s all, I asked politely.
ummm… OKAY
ive never played mvc2 before, somone fill me in on s/d cause i want to play s/d, it looks like blackheart is a good choice? can someone give me a complete newbie guide? (note i no nothing of the game, i just watch people play when im not playing cvs2 and watch match vids)
It might be a good idea to go to General Strategy for basics of the game. Also, keep in mind that Strider is one of the hardest characters to play. Once you learn how to do basic stuff in the game; you can feel free to PM me and I’ll try to help you out. But i don’t consider myself a master or anything.
L1quid, I go to the Danbury Gameworld. I’m the only Stirder/Doom player in the area. If you ever see someone at the MvC2 machine playing s/d, it’ll be me. Feel free to ask for a lesson on the team, although I haven’t been having the best of luck lately with them.
Anyway, I was playing some team clockw0rk today and got my ass beat mutiple times. My Strider/Doom is decent, but my Sent/Doom needs some help. I wasn’t able to effectively hold on to meter with sent, so when my strider came out he only had a meter or two. So my Sent play needs some work with doom. Any advice is appreciated, especially agaist any of the following teams which I had some problems against.
My Sent/Strider/Doom got pawned by:
Sent/Cable/Bulleta(projectle,mad annoying)
Storm/Cable/Capcom
Plus is there also any effective way Sent/Doom can play against Cable/Commando?
dhc in strider :encore: nah if nothing, try to push him into the corner, thats your only hope. and dont call doom once cable gets 3 bars
This might help.

Also, my favorite combo is: RP+Doom assistxxHSF,dash in (assist hits)fly, jab, jab (or short, short. depending on positioning),fierce, roundhouse.
You wanna have Sentinel kind of above the opponent to land the fierce and the rounhouse. The roundhouse usually otgs for me. It’s all about timing the rocks so you can keep it going. Please do not post that this combo doesn’t work or something like that. I was really tired and did it by accident one day. then I had to figure out how to do it consistently.
I thought you meant can you ROM off of strider’s assist which you can but like I said “depends what assist you use” as for your question, not too hard I think.
That makes Mag/Strider/Doom pretty cool IMO. I’ve been meaning to test it out, but there’s only one good Magneto in my town and he’s always like "Screw ROM! 5 fierce into reset is easier and better. " I guess I can’t argue though since it pretty much kills Strider :bluu: .
hoov - i heard that too. i’m sure it’s true, but my mag sucks. so i’m thinking rom’s better since it’s gauranteed while a reset is risky. after all, resets don’t work if they see it coming and block, right? the fierce combo is meaty though. oh well. just screw it and do unblockable tempest with doom! bwuhahaha.
What is Magz unmashable w/ doom? Never even bothered learning it honestly…
I guess I could look it up…
But that would require me, ya’ know, doing something…
And it’s a lot easier for me to go to dairy queen and get a hot fudge sundae…well see ya’! :bgrin:
unmashable is anything into standing roundhouse+doom, cancel the rh so its only 1 hit into hyper grabXXtempest. takes a shit load of damage. i remember wong won a tourny with mag/cable/doom a while back, killing people left and right with that unmashable.
anyway, i still thing mag is not the answer. storm or sent!
unblockable… what was i thinking??? oh well. anyways, that’s it. you can link the rom into st. rh, no? oh, and if you corner the opponent, you can do unmashable like psylocke’s AAA (j. lk, call assist, j. rh) and it works. i don’t know the damage difference, but it’s a bit easier since no cancelling and such.
