Oh! I know! I think BH was mentioned before, but I kinda want to go back to him again. I’ve heard it’s a good team but I’m not familar w/ the dynamics involved. For instance, what is the Doom/Blackheart trap and what is the Blackheart/Doom trap?
Just curious, ya’ know, don’t want the thread to die.
it’s a good team because strider doesn’t have to try to chase down runaway storms anymore. but other than taking care of air pests this team isn’t as good as with sent.
the ghetto traps is basically, call doom, sj demons airdash demons. repeat.
Hey, mad props to all Strider/Doom players. I don’t think the best trap in the game gets enough respect in the arcades and tournaments.
Anyway, I’ve been playing sent as a main part of this team for a while, but have really been considering putting blackheart in there.
BH/S/D can be very potenet depending on your blackheart skill. A good Blackheart player with a doom assist can keep just about any character(with the exception of cable cause of AHVB) on the opposing side of the screen and chip like hell. One would have to be careful of Doom in this case because he would then be depended on more for this team, and if he croaks before strider has a chance to do his thing then this team is gone. So BH can be started on point and build good meter with BH/Doom trap, then Inferno xx Heart of Darkness DHCed into the trap. All in all thats three meters burned but with alot of chip. From there Strider can use BH to pull down storms and sents. Also as a way to pin down opponets so he can teleport into their face.
Pros of Black Heart with S/D
-Blackheart/Doom trap is really good way of building meter
-Inferno picks off runaway characters
-Makes this team really good against teams like Sent/Cable/Cammando since BH/Doom rapes sent, and any decent strider/doom player can teleport over behind cable and introduce him to cypher when he tries to pull AHVB.
-Makes this team even more about zoning and trapping
Cons of Black Heart with S/D
-Blackheart/Doom trap can really be called cheap at times since the game plan is about the same, you can’t change it up too much.
-Although blackheart can hold mags at the other side of the screen, hes still large and can be rushed down.
-Doesn’t have the drones of sentinel for extra chipping/ground control
-Duration for inferno sucks
-BlackHeart can get killed easily by himself
Personally, BlackHeart is a solid addition to that team.
Well with any Strider/Doom team I tend to play the additional character first. I always try to get them to take out at least the first character and build some meter so strider can come in and kill the next two. This is also due to the general rule of thumb that meter eaters are usually played second. Although Strider isn’t the biggest meter hog, players will typically put a hog like cable second. Its due to this that strider is usually best played second since a good strider/doom generally rapes any cable player. Since he can just warp and stop any attempt at a cable trap or AHVB. However, in teams where there is a primary anti air, like Strider/Doom/Cyke, yeah strider would most likly work best starting there and playing through as much of the team as possible. Yet, BlackHeart is just as an affective point character in this team as he is an assist. Therefore I would start him first.
Not enough people give props to Ken. Awesome AA, good alpha counter, high priority, and can you say hurricane kick glitch? S/D has always been good w/ an AA, and Doom/Ken is a really good duo. Post some thoughts guys!
Ken isn’t that bad. I use to use him as my anti-air. You can use his broken invincability to your advantage, but I still like old school CapCom better.
Ken with S/D is not bad. Instant supers are good for DHCing into orbs. And Ken also does a good job clearing the screen so that Strider can face his opponent mano y mano. However, his chemistry with Doom and Strider’s assists are average at best and his Anti Air is only useful for countercalling. Ryu in my opinion works better than Ken does with S/D.
Ryu’s AA could be added into Strider and Doom’s basic bread and butters for more damage. You could do the same with Ken, but the damage added is shitty.
Both of Ryu’s throws were practically made to accompany assists like Doom AA and Strider Proj. Tick throwing with Ryu now leads to a free combo. Ken’s throws can’t do this.
Jab air hadokens are now great for zoning since you have Doom to cover the ground.
Ryu has a faster overhead, which becomes more of a factor now that you have an assist like Doom to hold the opponent in place.
Ryu can play a better defense when backed with Doom assist. This goes back to the hadoken zoning. not to mention dropping doom and dragon punching jump in attempts works better with Ryu.
Overall, the only things Ken really has over Ryu in this team is his ground roll while pinning them with Doom and that his AA is far better for counter assist calling and assist punishing. Sure, he doesn’t need meter to dish out his strongest combo. But Ryu is rarely short on meter anyway. Both their strongest solo combos will do more or less about the same.
I assume he means using Ryu on projectile assist. I could be wrong, but i’m sure that his projectile assist would help strider zone quite well.
I’m really thinking Ruby Heart could make a fun, yet effective S/D partner. She’s got a lot of helpful tools for S/D. If only her assist was a bit better. It’s sort of helpful for stopping rushdown. I guess if Strider gets them in the corner, he can use it to lock down, but dooms probably better in that case. Regardless, as a battery character, she’d be pretty damn good. I dont know if I’ve said this in this thread… but i’ll say it again anyway. She’s got her SJ RH if she really needs to build meter. She doesnt particularly need meter for herself, and she’s got three excellent DHC options. Partinelle(qcf+kk, the boat super) is fairly decent if comboed into and DHCed into orbs. Not her best option, but sometimes useful. Her Hyper Shwartzelle(qcf+PP) can be used as a frame kill, and if done from an AC, could probably be comboed into Legion or the trap.(not a combo I know) If you ever need to get strider into that trap, and Ruby out, just do qcf+pp, qcf+pp, and voila, start the trap! Lastly, there’s the Mill Fantome(qcb+kk) The good thing about this super is that when you DHC when the chest pops out and opens, the ghosts keep on coming out, creating an effective cover. This works especially well with Strdier, because the opponent is in severe lockdown by the ghosts and he can easily start the trap. The ghosts also create a cover, so the opponent cant necesarrily see where strider is or what he’s doing. the last thing i’ll mention is that Ruby Heart/Doom is another useful combonation. Lots of chemistry there. Sublimations, fantomes, doom, some anchor throws, shwartzelle and some block chains can be used together to become a fairly effective lockdown. I dont think I think this team could own pretty well in casual.
Thanks guys. I never thought about Ryu, and that’s kinda weird considering he’s like the first character I picked up. I’m thinking Akuma might be good though if Ryu is. I’ve seen some crazy Akuma stuff done by my friend raging stephen, and I think any of his assists would be good for the trap. Not to mention crossing over into Akuma’s shinku hadoken is great because there is NO RECOVERY TIME! (Trust me, we tested it w/ Cable.)
I don’t think that would be too great what with 2 members of that team taking damage so horribly. Who have you heard using that team. Also, I find it cool that my post is the 1000 th post in this forum:cool: . Just thought I’d share that.
the first character i used for strider/doom was jin and this was about 2 or 3 years ago.
he worked okay back then since some of jins move chip and he can blodia vulcan xx orbs when he pinned the opponent down with dooms assist. the problem was that jins AAA was easy to avoid.
2nd character i used was strider/doom/ken. i used it a few months before B5 and a few months after. this team was pretty dope for a while and i would still use this team if only doom is actually a strong point character nowadays. teleport + kens AAA stuffs almost all of your opponents assist which makes way for strider to trap.
3rd character i use is cyclops as either second or third and i used this team for around half a year to a year. this team is pretty strong, especially vs sentinel but it has trouble dishing out major damage when you need it to. cyclops just isnt dominating enough and doom is losing his credibility as a point character.
the current character i’m using now is sentinel. strider/sent/doom plays a LOT like MSP. strider can get hurt randomly sorta like mags but like MSP, you dont get strider killed no matter what, just like you dont get magneto killed. dhc strider out or tag out smartly. sentinel works like storm. play defensively and let strider heal then dhc strider back in when he heals enough and you have enough meter. strider can take out a character easily as long as he kept the momentum going just like magneto. dooms AAA is like psylockes AAA. get him killed, your chances of winning just decreased significantly. like psylocke, doom can hang with the top tiers for a while but you should always try to dhc her/him back in.
other characters i tried using with strider/doom was blackheart and also cable.
they suck. both of them are too doom assist dependent and cable eats up too much meter.
