There’s no such thing as “mastering” blocking. Anyone be crossed up, even Wong. I’d like to have an AAA so I’d go with Sentinel/Strider/Cyke.
For mag and storm, there is no way you can tel lwhich way they’re going to go, that, is true, but strider, its kinda obvious, teleport, block up, land, block down. its the chip from doom that makes strider win
You’re not doing it right then. Strider crossups are very possible and, if you know what you’re doing, you’ll land them a lot. Don’t get me wrong though, chip damage is the way to go. But any character can do good crossups if played correctly (yes, even Cable.)
…Well, i’ve seen some clockw0rk vids, and its quite simple, if you see strider teleport, you know, to block up, and when he lands, block low, he has no tri jump like dhalsim mag and storm. So, crossups, with strider, are quite rare. Mainly, as I said, just block the right way, you have plenty of time to react
You’ll get it one day  .
Strider/Sentinel is good enough =]
IM S/D -> my team, team trap =P
~Smart bomb!~
Spiral is my best 3rd character for this team.
Swords and rocks are great.
If you get crossed up by strider, then, thats sorry. Seriously though, as I explained, strider has nothing to possibly cross you up with. I’ve seen those vids of you playing chun li, and if you get crossed up by that, then, yeah it is possible to get crossed up by strider.
I’ve never released a vid, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. If your Strider can’t do cross-ups or resets then you’ve got a pretty sorry one. Why do you think we bother learning combos w/ Strider if we don’t intend to ever get a hit?
we need some videos lol I can make some but I have no host haha
If you have ever played strider, then you’d know that you’ll by blocking all the time because of orbs. And you dont need combos to play strider. Just trapping. Thats how strider wins, is chipping, not landing a hit like mag. And yes I’ve seen those vids of you playing Preppy.
you know… you two might as well play against each other … you’ll just go back and forth anyways
I’ve never played Preppy. I don’t even use Chun-Li. If you ever do see me in a vid I’ll prolly be playing Storm/Strider/Doom, Team Clock, maybe Matrix or Santhrax (if I’m bored), or Team Scrub. If I was going to mess around, I still wouldn’t even use Chun-Li. I suck with her and am not interested in getting any better with her. And in case you haven’t realized this, hitting someone with orbs while they’re blocking doesn’t build meter as fast as landing real hits. Therefore, having good combos with Strider is key to winning. It’s almost as important as trapping. Either post or PM me a link to this vid. I’d like to see this. Although, I guess it is entirely possible that I went half way across the country, played a guy I don’t know and prolly never will, and used a character I have no idea how to use, and forgot it all. (Yes, I realize that’s a run-on sentence but I’m too sick to care.) And just so you know, I’m not trying to be an ass or anything. Just trying to prove my point. There’s more to Strider than just trapping.
:looney: :looney: I feel like i’ve gotten dumber by reading some of these posts. :looney: :looney:
No, that’s the exact mentality that makes Strider players lose and Strider/Doom misunderstood overall.
Chipping really shouldn’t be your primary source of damage; Doom rocks don’t do nearly enough damage to warrant such. Best way to do damage is land some hits, and that’s a given for all the characters in the game (cept maybe Servbot D=).
And blocking Ouro is as easy or difficult as you make it for your opponent… kinda like how Sentinel moves as fast as you play him. If it boiled down to simply blocking high or blocking low, Strider wouldn’t be nearly as (potentially) good as he is. I mean, you could explain all Marvel (or maybe even all Street Fighter) as a matter of blocking high or low - pretty obvious that there’s more to it than that.
If you can’t land any hits on your opponent (with or without Ouro), you needa either start making up some new techniques so that those hits start landing, or pick another team. Relying strictly on trapping or launch into 5 hit air combos is the best way to blow your chance of winning IMO.
Clockw***0***rk
yeah I love clockw0rk, He’s gonna win evo2k5 if I don’t lol
how would you compare strider/sentinel/tron bonne against ironman/strider/doom?
There’s more to strider than just trapping. Trapping is like stage 1 and 2 of learning strider. So what if you know how to lockdown, what good is it if you can’t create your own opportunities to initiate it? After you learn how to trap, there’s the mind games and the pressure patterns you just need to pick up on your own from match experience, which then lead to the extra hits. This isn’t directed at anyone in particular, but if you’ve just learned how to trap with strider and think you know strider’s game in and out, stay in school. you’re still just a rookie.
^^Well put. So, we’re pretty much done with discussing third characters in this thread aren’t we? Is there anything else?
so… what about people who can’t trap very well? keep at it, or learn the other stuff? (by other people, i’m referring to myself. )
