It has far from the slowest combos though, I think BB and SkG ones are way worse for that.
And I find mvc3 combos unbearable.
Edit: and yeah for me the issue is entirely combo duration. Not damage, not number of hits, just duration. Even ToD’s are basically fine to me if they’re quick.
I totally agree. Blazblue, Guilty Gear, and Persona have an actual means of breaking the combos, and the game itself doesn’t let you continually re-set your combos as it caps after not too many. For me bashing those fighters and fighters like it for that while liking those in UMVC3 is hypocritical. I’m not saying “you must dislike long combos”, I’m simply saying “be freaking consistent”.
I agree. Yes, in P4A Aigis and Elizabeth are like the bane of my existence and I have no idea what to do against them (or even Teddie), but I know that’s just my fault for being totally ass at the game. Players who are good at it? They can take out those two characters like it’s nothing.
this. i picked cammy back early on in super when the tier list at the time had her ranked somewhere in the bottom 5 to 10 characters… i basically quit the game when they changed her dive cause i didn’t find the game as fun and am now returning to AE2012 and really only play the 1 character now. i could care less that the character i liked ended up becoming top tier.
the pace of combos in BB GG and other games dont bother me because the general movement of the game doesn’t make the combos feel out of place. mvc3 has fast as dashes tridashes etc but then goes into slow-mo combos
For sure on the MvC3 combos. I was practicing with Strider, Nova, Akuma, Zero and few others just going through combos, felt like “That was 2 rounds of VF, I’ve could’ve played…”. Needless to say I stopped trying to get into it for the sake of competition. Although there are still some things Inlike about it. I think VF in general gave me ADD when it comes to other fighters, lol.
You’re ignorant about most things, but you certainly know how to regurgitate what other people say without anything more than a cursory understanding.
Boggles my mind how you and the rest of the front page clowns were given that responsibility because it sure as shit wasn’t based on knowledge or your abilities as writers.
I dunno where this is coming from, but the Philippines has been running level 1 damage Marvel 2 for more than half a decade now. It’s at the point where it’s developed its own distinct meta-game from default damage Marvel 2. Me saying that Iron Man becomes god tier in level 1 damage Marvel isn’t me quoting Ryan… in fact if he’s ever mentioned that, it’s because we told him about it when he was here this year (and because him and NEO experienced it). Me saying that the game revolves around who can run the longest combos is because that’s how the game has developed here. Why go for resets when lower damage means a) you to do more and b) the other guy who can do longer shit can easily make up what you did to him and do more.
My problem is the damage to length ratio. MvC3, most characters with long combos will kill most of the cast (notable exceptions being Chun, who thankfully no one plays, and Dante, who still upsets me every time someone plays him).
Of course, GG doesn’t have long combos, and I can’t judge P4A because lol still not out in Aus. But BB’s length:damage ratio is too low for me. Combo length isn’t really high on my list of problems with BB, though, and they fixed it with BBCP anyway, so whatever.
While I understand what you’re saying, there have been games that I’ve seen (I’m not sure which ones there are) where there are infinites that, while being infinites, don’t actually do enough damage to kill before the round timer runs out. Thankfully however, I’ve not seen such combos in any of the games being discussed here.
Obviously people who blame the controller/game for their loss annoy us all but it’s even worse when it comes from someone who gloats every fucking victory.
Case in point. Last week a friend and I were binge fighting on Tekken 4 and VF4:Evo, put in at least 12 solid hours. (my thumb is still sore) When he was winning, all he did was talk shit. When he was losing, he blamed the controller/the game. So what do I do? Disassemble, clean, modify his controller then switch so he can use the one I was winning with…surprise surprise, he continued to bitch when he lost and blamed everything but himself for his losing.
FUCKING OWN UP TO YOUR LOSS! How hard is it to admit you need practice or you’re not as good as you seem to delude yourself into believing you are?
While Melee does at least have a decent amount of depth to it supposedly, I still wouldn’t put it with most fighters. There’s just something that seems totally odd to me about a fighter where your way of winning ISN’T “Drain your opponent’s life bar to 0%”.
The funny part is that since the game devolved into thos who can land their infinites or long loops he was considered low tier, it didn’t help that hideyoshi had an infinite that only worked on him
