The Zero MvC3 "Team" Thread

Back from the arcade, really fun day. Got to play around with these teams:
Trish/Zero/Dante, Zero/Vergil/Dante, Firebrand/Zero/Sentinel, and Felicia/Zero/Strider.

Trish/Zero/Dante** - AKA Zero May Cry**

  • Great team. Trish mobility feels very comfortable, an tri-dash j.:l: overhead are fun. Trish setting up that Zero unblockable is great, was really useful. Their DHC now is very nice because Trish can OTG with her super. First, I am going to talk about the good things for this team: 1. Fixes one major problem. Zero is not dead with the first hit of the match. Every team starts with 1 meter at the beginning of the round, ensuring that any character gets a DHC for the point character kill. You save Zero+Dante for the end, still being solid. 2. You have 3 characters you can put anywhere on the team. 3. You have Peekabo and Jam Session. 4. Round Harvest means a safe tag costing only 1 meter. 5. Combo extensions with Round Harvest have good potential. Now for the bad: 1. Trish doesn’t build 1 meter with the first touch. This means, no DHC nor unblockable on the first touch. This is, with basic Trish day 1 BnB. 2. Zero/Dante is amazing, but Zero/Dante DHC without any assist apparently not. Great team overall, and more lab time will probably make it even better.

Zero/Vergil/Dante - AKA Love Triangle or Stylish Haircuts

  • Great team as well. Same thing with the Trish team, everybody fulfills any role in the team. Combo extensions for Zero are way too good, so does the DHCs available. Vergil/Dante can definitively work together alone. Now, one very major strength that this team has is that is Zero gets 1 meterless combo and 1 reset that uses no meter, this team becomes godlike. The opponent has to deal still with Zero with full assists or, Vergil with meter. Vergil with meter is extremely scary. The amount of options he gets are pretty good, especially with Dante and Jam Session backing him up. And if you decided to tag out Zero so he recovers life, Vergil is going to get full combos off any grabs. Main goal, build meter with Zero, tag him out, use meter with Vergil and become a major threat.

Firebrand/Zero/Sentinel

  • Random team I used cause I wanted to use Firebrand a bit. Zero with drones is still amazing, but not as good like in vanilla. Drone nerf is pretty annoying. Firebrand DHC is decent with Zero. If you let Zero build meter, Firebrand can own the match with Sent Drones and his power-up mode. You have Sent on the back for comebacks, which today came very frequently. I don’t know if its because my Sent is great, people don’t know Sentinel mix-ups, or because I’ve underestimated Sentinel’s anchor possibilities (this sometimes happened without XF also) but Sentinel was doing great alone. Really straightforward team. Zero builds meter, Firebrand uses it, Sent is there for assist and comebacks.

Felicia/Zero/Strider

  • Wanted to try out the new Felicia, and test out Zero+Strider in a real match. I think most of the success I had with this team came from mix ups, this team has lots and lots of them. Felicia/Strider is extremely solid, the opponent has a ton of troubles getting out of mixups after Felicia’s BnB. Both Zero an Felicia get OTG combos out of Strider’s assist. Ryuenjin assist actually helps Felicia lock-down, because Felicia can get in so fast after her blockstrings. Zero and Strider gets easy unblockables with Felicia’s assist also. Zero and Felicia have safe DHCs, but their DHC is not good (but might be usable with if an unblockable setup after Rekkouha>Kitty Helper DHC>dash forward>:s:>j.:s: is created). Zero/Strider DHC is also pretty bad. Strider and Felicia anchors are excellent options. This team, like my friend Mickey said, is made entirely out of paper (you get hit, you die no matter what). This team kind of proves teams don’t really too much on DHC synergy but on overall role in a team synergy. Fun team and surprisingly solid.

You know about the Firebrand/Sentinel trap? I just assume you watch everything I post, but in case you missed it.

Throwing Zero in the middle might work out. Hell Spitfire assist could pin down opponents for a while.

Oh! I totally forgot about that! Will try out next time.

BTW, people were going nuts with Trish+Zero’s unblockable and Zero+Vergil DHCs. >:p

What about Zero/Taskmaster/Hawkeye? Zero and Task are probably my stronger chars, I had Bonne or Akuma as my third in Vanilla but usually always Sent. Just not really feeling sent in ultimate. Ideas?

Wow people really like Zero together with Devil may cry characters for some reason.

Zero/Taskmaster is very solid. Zero+Haweye, solid too but not as much.

I would change the order to Zero/Trish/Dante for a couple reasons. Zero benefits more from Trish’s assist then Trish benefiting from Zero’s assist. Rekoha > Round Harvest > Raw Tag Dante is better than Maximum Voltage > Rekoha > Devil Trigger. For unblockables you can always TAC in Trish if needed then DHC back into Zero (not reliable, I know). You can do Sougenmou > Round Harvest > Raw Tag Zero back in though pretty reliably. Zero builds better meter than Trish as well.

But my main reason is the Peekaboo assist resets in the corner. So after my BNB: blah blah> OTG dive > buster > lightning > blah blah > OTG Dive > buster > lightning, land call Trish, jump back j.B > B lightning for non-cross up, C lightning for cross up. This will catch all techs, if they tech forward and get hit, they land into Peekaboo, which you can start a combo. If they tech backward, they get hit by peekaboo, then lightning, and you can combo with 5B > 5S.

You can also set up this reset with Zero solo but the timing to combo after lightning is harder and not as reliable.

If you know they won’t forward tech, you don’t have to do the lightning, just j.B > B Teleport or A Teleport for cross-up/non-crossup, then they will get caught in Peekaboo.

I haven’t tested whether or not this works with OTG Dive > Buster > A Teleport on characters that lightning doesn’t work on. I haven’t been home to test it out.

With Dante Jam Session, you can do OTG Dive > Buster > Lightning > Land, Call Dante > 5S > j.B > B Lightning for non-cross up / C Lightning for cross up. Easier to combo after since you are so high in the air.

Yea I think that would work really well actually, vergils normals allow him to hit confirm off akuma from like a half screen away. Id try the team out but at the moment Im keeping my distance from vergil, yes I am one of those who isn’t fond of using the popular characters because I really dislike mirror matches.

Zero and Chris can DHC somewhat well.

Sweep Combo > Rekkoha works if you omit a few hits from Sweep Combo
Rekkoha > Rocket Launcher works really well. You just have to choose the right button to aim. I think it’s :m:
Sweep Combo > Sougenmu is awesome if you can manage the hit stun scaling

You definitely want to use Gunfire as his assist.

do zero and strider go well together???

I’ll post some info later about them. Short answer, not bad, but not good (yet).

Yea, I really thought they’d have better “off the bat” chemistry. Rekkoha > Oroborus doesn’t work nearly as well as imagined same for Legion. Though Vajra is pretty nice.

Anyway I’ve been messing with Zero/Spencer/Sentinel. Believe it of not, Zero/Spencer is pretty sick. I didn’t think they had a shot to even DHC but they do extremely well. Bionic Arm > Rekkoha and vice versa works anywhere on the screen. I’m still experimenting with assists. Right now I have Spencer on Horizontal Shot since Sent covers the slant angle with drones. I’m hoping to use it not only to cover area to get in, but also something to counter Advance Guard. Pretty salty to AG and end up wide open right in front of me. Still need to learn more about Spencer to decide what I’ll put Zero on - for now I’m using Ryuenjin.

Strider/Zero is a long term project. One of the biggest issues is Strider’s inability to have a simple and effective DHC to zero. So far, their best DHC is legion into sougenmu into raikosen loop in the corner.

Tron died. RIP Tron. Trying out Spencer now with Zero and Taskmaster.

Using Spencer B assist with Zero A assist. Synergy tips hints plz.

After messing with Zero/Hawkeye a little more, I’m really tempted to throw him into my lineup. Triple Arrow assist is definitely more effective for “pure” keepaway than Taskmaster’s. And at the end of your zero combos, you can DHC into two exploding arrow supers in the corner. Damage is good, although nowhere near as devastating as a Zero/Task DHC. But I still think Hawkeye in the long run is a scarier character than Taskmaster.

What do u guys think of this team ive been using?

Zero(ryuuenjin) / Vergil (rapid slash) / doom (plasma beam)

i think they got a lot of synergy and zero/vergil work very well, doom of couse helps with plasma beam to cover them

strider and zero are not working for me at all, :(.

How well does Zero/Firebrand and Zero/IronFist work? Spirit of the Dragon looks like it will dhc well from Taste the Rainbow.

Is anyone here playing Zero/Ryu? I’m trying to figure something out similar to the Devil Trigger/Spiral Swords DHC after Rekkoha with Denjin mode but I haven’t figured out anything good yet.

The best I’ve really got right now is something like Rekkoha—> Denjin Mode—> S air M air H air S Wesker OTG H Joudan xx Hurricane Kick super and even then its extremely inconsistent.

My vanilla team was Wesker/Zero/Akuma.

Been soul searching in ultimate for so long (for a team that doesn’t consist of Wesker)!!! I came up with Zero/Ironfist/Spencer. Only problem is no broken assist…

But zero/ironfirst I can dhc into each other pretty well. Easily get 800-900k. Max I got out of Ironfirst> Zero w/o dhc was 983. Which is one hit off of killing Wesker. LOL Fuck that nigga never dies.
