Someone tell me they’ve figured out Zero/Nova/xxx. I want to play this team so bad. I assume the preferred xxx is either doom or sent
Zero/Sentinel are still good. I dont know how effective sentinel is gonna be in ultimate though. and I want to ask this as well, so, I have Zero/Sentinel now. You guys think a character like, Vergil would complement them well? im kinda worried about certain matchups like Spencer =/
I’m thinking of picking up a backup anchor for teams that Strange can’t make comebacks against. Which do you guys think is better between Zero/Doom/Vergil or Zero/Doom/Strider. Both of them can control the entire screen with their assists, but Vergil is less of a risk to call and is more likely to punish your opponent’s assist calls than Strider. Strider on the other hand has that XF3 Derpoboros comeback factor. Vergil still has fairly low health and is a risk to call, just not as much as Strider - whereas Vergil also has the XF3 derp comeback factor but once again not as crazy as Strider. I feel like the differences between these 2 teams would be very subtle.
I’m leaning towards Strider because Zero and Doom can both convert into big damage from that hard knockdown on Vajra.
I play zero/dante. if that third character (sentinel) comes on screen with zero and dante dead, I already lost the match.
I play Zero/Strider/Doom currently, and I have been playing with Zero/Vergil/Doom on the side.
I like Strider’s Vajra assist better for utility. In my experience, Vergil’s Rapid Slash gets punished more than Strider’s Vajra. A lot of times, your opponent won’t even notice when you call Strider, especially if you call Strider and super jump immediately. As long as you make smart assist calls, I’m sure you won’t get punished much with either assist, but Strider’s is easier to abuse. As far as combo damage goes, Vergil’s assist has better combo extending options for Zero, but Doom already does that job.
Doom definitely benefits from Strider’s assist more than Vergil’s, as it is one of the best anti-air assists, and is easy to get damage off of the hard knockdown. Doom also has no trouble protecting either assist.
As long as you have meter to spend, both characters are effective in X-Factor. However, if you do not have X-Factor, Vergil easily does more damage than Strider does. On the flipside, I think Strider is more effective with no meter, because he can cover his own approaches with his fast projectiles, whereas Vergil would need to use his sword hyper to be safe.
Overall, I think that Vergil is a better partner for Zero, and Strider is a better partner for Doom. If you are putting them as the anchor, however, you lose some of the Zero/Vergil benefits (DHCs, Vergil’s combos using Ryuenjin, etc.) while retaining all of Zero/Strider’s. Zero/Doom/Strider is the more balanced team, in my opinion.
That’s sort of exactly what I was thinking overall, but I’m glad to get the validation. And yes I will be running one of them as anchor, mainly because I don’t really like Doom as an anchor and I love Doom backed by an assist.
so, is the infamous Zero/Dante/Vergil good?
Ive been using them now and they seem to work pretty well, but i dont know, its not Zero focused of course, only dante really helps Zero i dont know about Vergil, maybe im not familiar enough with the team yet (or im too used to akuma crossups).
Team Love Triangle is godlike.
oh so thats the name then lol? Im using it then. I find that, i cant play the same way as I would if I had akuma as assits, its more about space control right?
Just realized I’ve been making a big mistake - same one I made in vanilla. Spending a ton of time trying to figure out a team instead of going with my instinctive 3 and getting better.
My instinct says Zero/Sentinel/Doom. Rolling with that until I feel the need to change something due to playing them instead of what theoretically could work better.
shouldnt it be better: Zero/Doom/Strider?
Zero/Doom/Sent is also a great team. Really weird how not many people didn’t use it vanilla. And in that team you can have Doom with Hidden Missiles no problem.
@Diveman
It does have great screen control because Zero+Jam Session does that pretty well (Vergil helps too). Vergil’s role isn’t that much of screen control neither pseudo-zoning, but to use the meter of Zero’s combos/death and go crazy. Dante allows some nice combo extension for both Vergil and Zero. Team is overall great.
get rid of sentinel, lmao. he has the WORST MATCHUPS OF ALL TIME. why not just pick wesker instead?
I’m still learning vergil with the team zero/dante/vergil. does it matter what order this is in?
however I have a tournament in 3 days. do people find that vergil is a easy character to learn in three days??? lol, otherwise I’m just going to use zero/dante/wesker.
I used Zero/Sent/Doom in Vanilla. It was my first main team, but I dropped it like a bad habit since it had too many weaknesses. The team is essentially all or nothing on Zero and will never get started on a team with a fast projectile or beam assist. Taskmaster also tears that team to shreds.
mmm just go Zero/dante/wesker for that tourney, Vergil takes some time to get used to.
Question, been trying to figure out a good team configuration for zero/xxx/vergil…with no real success. I admit I’m a right up scrub when it comes to this stuff still, but tried to throw ammy and doom into those spots and well…I don’t like oh doom handles, and while I’m good with ammy she has no synergy with the other two. Any advice…outside of sentinel?
If you’re going to run Vergil I think Zero/Vergil/xx Is a much better order unless you’re running Dante then do Zero/Dante/Vergil and you’ll have all the meter Dark Vergil could ever want. For your third though (other than Dante) you just need a competent anchor with a good assist that can either help you get in from above or otherwise defensively cover the space above you (since I assume you will run Rapid Slash assist which already covers the horizontal axis). You also want someone who isn’t heavily meter reliant since Vergil will usually use most of it. Doom, Spencer, Nova, and maybe Ryu should all be good here. On the more meter-reliant side Strider, Iron Man, Storm, Taskmaster, and Strange should all work. Although Wesker ignores the “have a good assist” rule, he’s so good at the back that he’s viable there too. Or you could go all out and rely entirely on the Zero/Vergil game using XF2 on one of them and have Haggar assist at the back. Personally I think Doom on Hidden Missiles is the best choice.
Seems like everyone is running some sort of zero+vergil/doom/sent. combination and i completely understand doom rockets turn zero into a one touch monster. My current team is Zero/Spencer/Strider my bnb averages about 85ok using 1 bar with solo lightning. does anyone have any good zero/strider combo stuff?
been trying zero/vergil/doom with beam assist but i found that if i use the beam in a zero combo they drop out after the first loop instead of the second. does plasma beam have a llot of hit stun scaling or something? sux cuz beam seems so good for vergil, but doesnt seem to work with zero.
thinking ill have to use hidden missiles instead, but i dont have a good assist for vergil mixups then.
before that i was using amaterasu, cold star seems to work well for zero but not so much for vergil. kinda stuck in trying to find the right assist.
I liked my Zero/Dante/Akuma team back in vanilla but with Tatsu assist nerfed, I’ve found myself using Zero/Dante/Wesker. I’m looking to also develop a Strider Zero team, hence my username haha.
