The Zero MvC3 "Team" Thread

I’ve been using Zero/Dante/Ryu since I picked the game back up about a week ago. I’ve been using it to moderate sucess, but I’m just now getting to the “Let’s do complex stuff” part of my playing this game. I went through the strat guide and learned a few nice Zero moves, but right now I feel like I have 3 dudes that aren’t working together. And I don’t feel like I’m setting up proper DHC’s.

If you browse some of the pages in the Combo and Team threads, you can find tons and tons of Zero/Dante stuff.

Zero vs Zero+Protection assist is pretty terrible matchup. I think they are honestly the only way to fight Zero so to speak.

Which Ryu assist are you using? Akuma is almost always better than Ryu in every way. Almost…

yeah I know… I couldn’t even really think of a way to counter it before I got beat by the guy. I tried to counter pick with Haggar but Zero just ducks under lariat assist so it wasn’t doing much good. I’m so glad they’re nerfing tron in ultimate lol

Tron assist is Zero’s worst matchup (yes including Phoenix)…can’t even throw busters at it because it has more hits than a level 3 buster.

picking the game back up with my old team of Zero/Amaterasu/Doom, although browsing the forum has me very tempted to try squeezing Dante in somehow. it would really crush me to have to drop Ammy, but the main reason I’m even playing again is Zero. would Zero/Dante/Ammy be viable or should I suck it up and replace her for someone else?

I played that team (Zero/Dante/Ammy) briefly. I think it’s viable, but I think having an assist to cover your approach at the back is a little better (I also suck with Ammy). Zero/Dante/Doom is very very good though.

Zero Ammy Dante is fun but they have NO health lol. It main excels at extending guard strings, since both cold star and jam session lock down forever.

I played that team for a bit but I switched to Dorm instead of Ammy and things worked out quite a bit better for me.

Now that Ultimate MvC3 is coming out, I have this idea for a joke team:
Team Japan- Zero, Strider, and Shuma-Gorath
I know it probably won’t hold up as a real team, just something I’d thought I’d share.

A joke team? Zero+Strider looks solid as of now.

And shuma’s assist is godlike for teleporters. That’s not a joke team at all, it’s probably really good lol

Sup. I’m new to zero and I’m thinkin of playing zero/dorm/doom-a. I have a few questions:

  1. do you think this is a solid team? I feel all three of these chars will remain good in ultimate. But does the team have good synergy?
  2. what dorm and zero assist should I use?
  3. what are some effective resets and mixups with plasma beam?
  4. what combos should I be avoiding due to changes in ultimate? I don’t want to get in the habit of using thinks that soon won’t work anymore.

  1. Use Dante
  2. Solid, yes. Optimal? Not as much.
  3. Dorm on Dark Hole, Zero on Hadangeki for teleport cross ups (or Ryuenjin if you need anti air + cross over counter.) Also consider Hidden Missiles for Doom.
  4. Pretty much anything into Hienkyaku L or M while calling the Beam, or any assist really.
  5. Zero’s combos are going to be mostly the same, but better, don’t worry about it.
  6. Use Dante.

Evil_ToasterofFP-Sama, could you please elaborate on why Dante is such an awesome addition for Zero. I’m thinking of later down altering my team to include Dante, or make different teams altogether from my current team. Cheers. =)

Please stop with this “use dante” thing. It’s lame and not needed, Dante it’s not a must in this game nor in this team.

  1. Zero/Dorm/Doom is my main team (I switched from Sent to Doom), so I can honestly say to know this team quite well.
    The general synergy is good but there are DHC problems outside the corner from Dorm to Doom. If you are mid-screen after a Rekkoha DHC into stalking flare because Chaotic flame pushes your opponent out of the rekkoha. After the Stalking flare you have time to charge 3 dark spells!
    Remember that with this team you should play Zero as a battery character: Dormammu needs meter, a lot of meter.

    Dormammu will remain good but his play-style is going to change in Ultimate.

    • Zero Shippuga (best assist for relaunching with Dorm in the corner, no need of hadangeki with Doom in your team);
  • Dormammu dark hole lets you relaunch with Zero everywhere, in the corner you must neutral jump after the launcher or the dark hole will appear out of the screen;
  • Doom Beam, there isn’t a bad Doom assist but the plasma beam is the best, it’s fast and has so much durability that keeps forcing your opponent to a 50/50 situation every time he touches the ground. Someone on Dorm’s forum prefer molecular shield because it can be used as get-off-me assist. I personally don’t.
    Using hidden missile change the playstyle of this team shifting it to the pure keep away.
  1. Just abuse plasma beam + mass change/Hienkyaku (pay attention to the fact that the beam puts your opponent in an airborne state, you have to be fast). Don’t always use :m: mass change or you will become predictable. It’s a good thing to protect your liberation yomi-game with the beam.

You may also be interested in the proper way to setup Dorm’s unblockable The Dormammu Thread You can use Doom’s or Zero’s assist to keep them on the ground.

  1. Sadly the nerf to the buster shot does affect Zero’s combos, with this team (if I haven’t used Doom’s assist to start the combo) one of my bnb is:
    [Ground Shippuga loop]x3, :s:, JUMP, :m:, :m:, Buster Release, :l: Raikousen, LAND, :s:, JUMP, :m:, :m:, :h:, :s:, Call Doom’s Beam, JUMP, :h: Sentsuizan, LAND, :f::h:, Buster release, Rekkoha

In Ultimate the buster shot will only cause soft knockdown so the last part of this combo will be no longer possible.

  1. Use the characters you want.

  1. Yeah I think it’s a real solid team. Doom as anchor is kinda hard but if you can pull it, by all means, because it’s a great team. All of them are getting buffs in ultimate so yeah, worth sticking with.
  2. Dorm > Dark Hole pretty much always. Zero > Shippuga for flame carpet OTG combos, shippuga is the easiest to work with for Zero and Dorm.
  3. Generally block string > command dash with zero or teleport with dorm is enough to get the job done. When you call doom, don’t teleport immediately, as it makes it a bit harder to block if you teleport a second before the beam comes out. I think Zero can use the beam to combo into buster from full screen too. As far as resets… you really don’t need doom beam for that. Save it for getting in / extending combos / mixups.
  4. Level 3 buster into OTG stuff won’t work anymore… that’s about it. The rest should be the same.

If you weren’t running doom with beam I’d do Zero with Hadangeki, but you don’t need it for dorm since you have plasma beam. If you do ever switch out doom though, consider hadangeki for dorm since powered up geki is pretty good for him.
