Here are some I’m currently using as I’m learning Zero
Chun-Li Lightning Legs (Hyakuretsu-- I think?), Dormammu Dark Hole, Dr Doom Plasa Beam
K this one is for Kef
Zero/Strider/???
Discuss??
zero to build meter for Strider, Orbs, Do damage, Make some synergy. Whos anchor?
Sentinel, of course.
Sentinel is kind of obvious, great assist so both Strider and Zero can mix-up the opponent, and they both can zone with it.
DHCs that will probably work:
- Rekkouha>Plasma Storm
- Legion>HSF
- Rekkouha>Legion
- HSF>Legion
- HSF>Rekkouha (near corner only)
- Legion>Rekkouha (corner only)
- Plasma Storm>Legion
You can probably also start Lighting Loops out Plasma Storm, HSF, and Legion in the corner (that’s if Ride the Lightning is still in).
Both Zero and Strider have very high priority normals, so this team shouldn’t need assist like Haggar’s or Tron’s to get close. Both can zone pretty decently (well Zero can zone pretty damn good), so they kind of have that option covered.
Most of the people here that have been using Zero for a long time know how to extend their combos big time with their assists, so I think we agree that if you use two assist in your combo (that Zero can do pretty easily thanks to Buster and Setsuizan OTG), you can get very close if not a little more than 2 meters. This should mean meter shouldn’t be much of a problem (and this is without counting tag aerial exchanges). So with low health character, one big combo and a little mix-up or random assist+buster hits after, and it probably means you have almost guaranteed Ouroboros to kill a character if Zero dies.
As for assist between both, this could be a little tricky. Many Dante, Doom, Magneto, Ammy, Tron players that I know/seen that have Zero on their team, use Ryuenjin for it’s long hitstun to create very extense combos, but looking at Strider’s moveset, it looks like can’t combo out of it as easy as the others. This could mean Shippuga could be used for a small lockdown help (with Strider’s teleports) or combo extension (OTG Missile + Shippuga > :s: into air combo , QCF.? into Legion super, or straight to Lv.3 Ragnarok). Sougenmu Hadangeki would be the assist that will probably benefit Strider the most in lockdown and in mix-ups. Strider’s useful assists include Excalibur that ground bounces (maybe you can do use it for :s:>Lv.3 Buster>Raikouzen>TK Setsuizan if hitsun is long enough), and the teleport that tracks. The teleport could be very useful coupled with Zero own teleports, and I think I heard it also ground bounces and follows enemies even up to SJ range (a spot Zero is weak in, just above his head).
Samurai already talked about the possibility of an unblockable set-up with Legion>Sougenmu DHC, so that would be really useful if possible. Both Legion and Rekkouha OTG, so that can be useful for THCs or comboing overall.
Other great teammates could be Doctor Doom with Hidden Missiles, Ammy with Cold Shot (if you don’t care about a glass team), or maybe even Dante with the so mighty Jam Session with them. I am planning to use one of the new Capcom characters (Firebrand, Phoenix Wright, Vergil, Frank, or Nemesis) as my last character is they have a great assist, but if I don’t like any of them, I would stick with one of the above options for sure (most probably Doom).
Now, off to Orlando
Discuss while I am not here. Will be back Friday or Saturday.
Mags anchor. Fucking shit up if Zero and Strider get bopped.
Currently using Zero (shippuga)/Spencer (Angled Arm Grab)/ Wesker (Samurai Edge)
Zero’s normally on point and wesker as anchor.
There’s many reasons why I think this team works very well but for Zero:
- Rekkoha can be DHCed into Bionic Arm for extra damage and safe tag-ins
- Using 4 bars, it’s possibe to Rekkoha, X-Factor Rekkoha, Bionic Arm and then Maximum Wesker
- Spencer’s Supers can be DHC tricked into Sougenmu (of course the UMVC3 comes out this will be removed but for now, still works)
- Wesker’s assist is great for combo extending
- Spencer’s assist is great for snap-in mix-ups. As well as combo extending if Wesker is unavailable
- All 3 can combo into an effective team super.
- Unblockable Setups with Samurai Edge and Dive attack, as well as mixups with it with dashing.
I think the only leak in this team is that I have no strong projectiles like doom or magneto which could be userful.
Zero’s sword dive is not an overhead. Also I hope you put Spencer on Slant Shot assist for mixup purposes. And I would also put Wesker on Jaguar Kick assist for Zero, but with Spencer OTG/low assist is useful. Also, put Zero on Hadangeki assist for Spencer.
While I obviously plan to try Zero/Strider - I’m really looking forward to trying out Zero/Rocket, Zero/Nova and Zero/Nemesis. Based on the comics and video games, they all seem like they could have the type of gameplay that would Zero out the most.
Hi. I just joined the site. I’ve been using Zero since I got the game back in march. Love him. My main team is Zero/Dante/Wesker. I’ve seen and played 2 other people who have used the same characters, just with different combinations in assists.
First, I lead in with Zero and use him as the trickster and clutch of my team, switch to Dante to deal the bulk of my damage dealing Combos, and use Wesker to mainly teleport and counter anything the opponent has to throw at me.
Problems:
- Wolverine: anyone leading with him runs through my team, due to his ground to air combos which is hard as all heck to get out of.
- Phoenix Teams: speaking on just vanilla, she is a pain in my side and I am so glad that they nerfed her in ultimate
Upsides:
- Sentinel and Tron is no longer much of a problem as they used to be now that I have learned to perform longer and better combos with Zero and Dante.
As for Ultimate, I have been thinking of switching Wesker out and finding someone else as my 3rd main. I just don’t know who… I looking at the newer characters mostly, and I haven’t used a single Marvel character since MvC3 came out at all.
Good team. I would use Ryuenjin/Jam Session/Jaguar Kick assist types for them, though. You could use wesker OTG assist to combo after full screen level 3 buster shots, but don’t get to comfortable with that.
Against Wolvie with Zero, just run away and zone with buster shots and assists. Wait for a good time to attack. When you’re in, go for a cross up with an assist and Hienkyaku M. With Phoenix, Zero is the best character to deal with Phoenix teams. Land one hit, snap back, mix up Phoneix with a meaty Level 3 Buster into anything and kill her.
yes slant shot for mixups that’s what i meant. I originally put shippuuga in for extending combos for wesker. can you still do that with hadangeki? (will experiment when i get back)
haven’t really seen any much use for jaguar kick since OTG assist is incredibly useful.
Shiiit, Zero is a fucking boss when he is with Sentinel. Was messing around with full screen M Raikousens covered by drones, that shit is serious. Sets up ambiguous cross ups and leads to free mixups on block which are hard as fuck to see with drones exploding, lightning in the air and buster charge.
H Raikousen also shuts phoenix’s air fireball game the fuck down and you can land and follow up before she hits the ground. Sentinel makes it much much easier.
Best anti phoenix tech is to just use Dante assist to hit them out of the air, then super jump buster or j. S and follow up
Also welcome to the best team in the game
One of my friends/training partners said he’s run into you a lot online and that you shut down his Phoenix with Jam Session + Lightning mixups on the incoming Phoenix. Have you since abandoned this for Jam Session + buster, or is the lightning just more reliable online?
I’m still having a hard time deciding if Zero/Dante/Sent or Zero/Dante/Akuma is better…Dorm is close too. I’m 100% convinced that one of those 3 is the best Zero team possible (and very possibly the best team in the game) though. Akuma doesn’t cover quite enough ground with his assist, but Sentinel’s assist starts up so slow, and Akuma is at least a slightly better anchor. Honestly I still think Doom’s Plasma Beam assist is the best for getting Zero in, but it’s not quite as useful for Dante and Doom is just ok as an anchor.
I do have those incoming character mixups, but if they escape then a Dante assist is the best way to get Phoenix out of the air if she’s throwing fireballs. Most don’t get out of the incoming mixup though, they’re damn near unseeable.
And I’m pretty sure Zero/Dante/Sent is the optimal Zero team. It’s certainly a contender for best team in game, but not every character has been explored fully (shuma, jill, modok, iron man, thor, darkstalkers, etc.) But at the moment, I think it’s the best in game.
Drones assist is made for Zero’s specialized setups that only Drones can work with. Raikousen cross ups, best incoming character mixups, combo extenders, and adds tons of durability points to a firefight.
I’ve always been a little tempted to try Sentinel on my team so I might do it. I might just stick with Akuma for now though since it’s not like this iteration of the game is going to be around much longer and everything will have changed by next year’s Evo (which I’ll be going to, while I’m not going this year)… Here’s hoping Strange is a good Zero partner. Doom is supposedly getting better in Ultimate so I might end up going back to him again…
What type of set ups do you guys have vs incoming characters generally? does M lighting cross in the corner?
For Zero/Sentinel:
walk back, call drones, super jump, quickly shoot Level 3 Buster to hit them as soon as they come in (prevents them from double jumping, air dashing away, pressing buttons, etc)
FROM THERE, do either
-
lighting dive L, can cross up or not depending on distance. If the level 3 buster is push blocked immediately, the lighting dive should still work normally. If the lighting is push blocked, you can begin dashing as soon as you land to cancel the push. In either case, the drones will cover you and give you pressure and keep them grounded.
-
air hienkyaku L. Non cross up, can quick get on the ground for more mixups with the drones, including grouded hienkyaku M to cross up with the drones.
-
air hienkyaku M. Cross up with drones, easy to combo after. This can be followed up with a backwards air dash for a double cross up.
-
air dash forward. Fake out air hienkyaku M for those starting to see it.
IF ANY OF THIS IS BLOCKED, they will end up blocking the drones, from there you can do.
cr. L or M for a low.
dash up TK Sentsuizan L, air M for an overhead.
air dash, air hienkyaku L. Fake overhead
hienkyaku M for drones cross up + low.
TK air hienkyaku M for drones cross up + overhead j. S.
All of these lead to full combos. This is the main reason why Zero/Drones is amazing. Mixups into mixups. You can also mix things up with drones call + TK H Raikousen.for a cross up and easy combo followup.
Made a new team yesterday;
Zero(Hadangeki)/Ryu(Tatsu)/Doom(Beam)
I’m quite liking this team a lot. Thoughts guys?
